In my home state, a mechanic shop would charge at least a $1000 for parts and labor to do that job. Labor is astronomical now. Dan you not only helped that brother out, your videos are helping many brothers out. Thank you for letting your light shine! God bless.
I got quotes 600 bucks in California, motivated me to do it myself. Hardest part was taking off the clutch fan. Do your self a favor and rent the fan bolt holder from auto zone/ oriles to take it off. Got it done in 1.5 hours
Damn! $1000? That’s cheap! Last guy I took a car to that had a coolant leak (needed a replacement radiator and hoses) quoted me at $4500 just for parts and said it would take a month to do.
Thank you for your video I feel like I'm getting my money's worth with the pump and labor included for $400 because I cannot do this myself. I've been losing coolant for 6 months replace the cap for the radiator replace the radiator and all the hoses and I'm pretty confident the garage I was taking it too could just tell me anything they wanted and I would just hand them cash so this time I went to another garage to find out why I have a coolant leak and they found it in 5 minutes and it was my water pump. Needless to say I just found a new shop to take my truck to since apparently the one wants to screw me over after I have spent thousands of dollars with them between my car and my Jeep. I'm going to call him in the morning and ask them to replace a thermostat housing after watching your video. Thank you again for sharing
I thought 10 extra HP, and you said it. I like to replace idler and tensioner pulley with belt, they never fail at an opportune moment. Way to be, Dan. Helpin' each other is what we do!👍
I had such a problem with my old WJ and the thermostat housing. First replacement cracked. Second one I could not for the life of me get it to stop leaking out the bottom bolt hole. Third time was a charm and finally got it to work after getting one from a different place and replacing the bolts and using a different sealant. I get chills thinking about having to replace one of those again.
Great video as Always. Your knowledge is unbelievable and your explanations are the best. Wish you had some of your merchandise for sale as I would love to score a Project Dan H tshirt. Keep up the great work of informing all of us uninformed ones.
My water pump keeps leaking like crazy. I snaded down the mpunt location. Looked clean and smooth. Then the sealant, gasket and water pump just like in this video. Tightened it down just like in the video and still have a really bad leak.
I think my water pump is on its way out. No squealing from the pump but she keeps climbing close to 210° (Doesn't go any higher) and noticed little splashes of coolant underneath. Also, the top of the coolant reservoir is damp and everything around it is corroded. I've replaced the thermostat and the thermo housing last year. I don't have a electric fan on my WJ. I have to old school fan attached to the water pump.
Looks like somebody else is going to be doing this for me. As awesome as this video is I don't think I have the proper equipment to start tearing it apart myself. But after a new radiator and the radiator cap and all my coolant lines I took it to a second garage to get a next set of eyes and they could easily see it was coming out of the water pump. Needless to say I'm finding a new mechanic
I did that and my upper and lower ball joints and my front brakes cost me $1,183 cash price no sales tax. But when I look at the price of other used four-wheel drives and I know how much money I have in mine and she looks brand-new at 20 years old. I'm okay with replacing those parts and I'm also okay with replacing the water pump
Hi I love ur video I love them I jus ha ve a question I have jeep grand loredo 2009 3 -7 my motor oil I drive it to about 25 minutes or a little bit more n it starts blinking but when I drive it goes away and i check the motor oil it have oil can u tell me what it is wrong thank you sincerely Linda 🙏👍

I have an 04 WJ 2WD , My problem is when the engine gets warmed up about 5 minutes it loses all oil pressure, I put a mechanical oil pressure gauge on to verify 55psi cold 5 or less hot. I'm not driving it. Do you think I can save it with new lower bearings and pump? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Cheers from Jacksonville Florida 🌞
did the water pump and t-stat myself... not that hard.... just takes time... Also had a radiator cracked upper hose connection.... bought the rad for about $170 and had my mechanic install it for $200...
Hy my wj jeep, electric fan is not working , im use mechanic fan so, but i think is not good, when i start engine after 20 minute is gone 100 degres, but when is run on rooad is gone down 60 or 70 degres
Dang dude you got that death grip squeezing that hose ring like nothing. I had to get my wife to do it because of how much strength it took to squeeze. Just joking about the wife part, I junked her years ago but I would rather wrestle alligator then wrestle that hose clamp without tools.
Thanks DanH, the 4.0 hood space seems so nice vs my 4.7 cramped hood space♥ Got any body reapir videos for WJ's? had an oopsie with the garage on from left wheel arch. The double skin making it hard to get a nice spot to pull the dent out :/
Water pumps can fail at any time. I have a 1999 WJ with the 4.7 that my water pump finally failed after 246,000 miles. Thankfully, it wasn't a major issue since I was driving on I-55 in Missouri on my way home from St. Louis International Airport. Took me a total of 2 hours from start to finish to replace my water pump on my WJ 4.7. Just as easy as the 4.0.
@@ProjectDanH yeah gonna make sure if to stop and pull over before that happens. Got nervous seeing it hit 225 degrees on a hot summer day in traffic, started shifting real hard and got a trans over temp code that day.

Nice! The clutch fan is almost as annoying as the lower passenger side Efan bolt! Luckily this jeep nas missing that blt 🤣

@John Lavato yeah yeah yeah. You're neither clever or funny. Your troll games needs work.
That has to be the cleanest coolant I’ve ever seen come out of an 4.0l
The previous owner put coolant in it and sold it to my friend with a bad water pump.. very shady...he made the guy pay for the pump. Lol
Great job I've done many but your idea of leaving the bt on the pully is something I never thought of!
Another incredible vid! I never take for granted the fine detail, step by step and great camera angles. Your channel is a gem, Dan! God Bless.

Did you replace the water pump? Sometimes the impeller wears in the shaft. If you used an old water pump that is your problem

I’m pretty sure it’s 20 ft lbs for the pump and thermostat housing.
Thanks for that!
Shouldn't that coolant be orange my 03 WJ 4.0 calls for the orange
The 4.0 can take the green. The 4.7 takes the orange, the 5.7 Hemi on my commander takes the yellow

Couldn't tell if the thermostat was horizontal straight across or clocked down slightly on the left.
Unusually horizonal with the little bubble breaker or hole at 12oclock

Been lucky not to have this issue. Yet. Is this a issue on the 4.7 as well?

No, 4.7s just overheat and drop the valves into the cylinders destroying the pistons and the head.

When doing hose installation DO NOT USE VASELINE .. spray inside of hose with brake clean and it will slide right on, then brake clean will evaporate
