    Hey Mark, I've been watching your videos for a few months now. Just wanted to give you a shout out, you're putting out videos that no one else is and your experience shows! I know it's been a minute since you've posted but you're older videos are still helping people

    Really brilliant Mark.
    I'm finding this absolutely fascinating, especially as I've accidentally bred corydoras sterbai after a failed heater. Temperature plummeted and after raising temperature again with a new heater they went wild laying eggs everywhere
    Looking forward to seeing the fry 😊

Luv watching all his vids. Thanks to Mark n his how to’s and another guy who I contacted via fb who was one of the first breeders of CPDs in captivity I bred many n many.

    Great show, I learned a lot about what Oto's prefer for an environment, & now I can apply it to my community aquarium. Do you think maybe it's possible that the reason that your Oto's lay eggs differently from the first time you bred them, is maybe because they came from a different environment with different requirements, or is it more likely that they are a different strain?

    I have used high quality powdered spirulina suspended in a little tank water and then poured in. It settles over the tank like a dusting of algae, they seem to enjoy it.

  • @peripheralsapien8491

    My peppered corydoras spawned on Wednesday afternoon, I wasn't attempting to breed them so have nothing set up for the eggs/fry. First night in my community tank seen probably 70-80% of the egg eaten by my Bolivian rams. But I still have around 20 or so eggs I can see tucked away in various spots around the tank, it's a natural setup with lots of botanicals and wood as well as live plants, guess the strong will survive ......... we'll see 👀

    I bought new fish, and 2 weeks later I put them in my community tank. According to the trader, 2 weeks of quarantine was a long time. But within 1 day all the fish became critically ill and I had to start over.
    Therefore this question: how long should you quarantine new guppies? One month? Half a year?

    great you have some eggs - hopefully you will get healthy fry and that they will grow well!!! I have a problem you may be able to help me with - it is PH levels.........I have only had Bettas - and am told they like ph of 7 which is neutral......over the past year my ph has been about 7.5 or 6 but I have not wanted to add chemicals to bring it down. In part 1 of this breeding series I told you about trying to re-cycle one of the tanks as on Betta died. I added wood this time round and the ph is down to 6.6!!! which is now too LOW!!! So what do I do????? At least there is no fish in the tank I am trying to recycle - Have you ever kept a Betta???? It would be interesting to have your tips and suggestions!!!!! Looking forward to both of your answers!!!! K

    Hi Mark, thanks for all the great videos!! Is it ok to move fish into a breeding tank that has a much lower ph than their normal tank has, like for Tetras? Say their normal tank is ph7 and the breeding tank is ph6, then how do you acclimate them for the change?
    Thanks
    Phil

    • @MARKSAQUATICS

      They will eat underutilised and fungused eggs but not fertile healthy ones.

    • @TheCuggsmeister
      @TheCuggsmeister 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MARKSAQUATICS Thanks, Mark. The reason I ask is because I have a tank that is heavily planted with Java fern and mosses. All I have in it are a dozen mountain minnows, four Amano shrimp and about two dozen red cherry shrimp. I thought this set up would allow both the minnows and the cherries to breed freely but the neither have....even though I'm always seeing berried shrimp and the minnows spawning. The cherries must've had multiple batches of young by now and the minnows must've deposited eggs. So what's happened to all of them? I can't figure it out. I have a shrimp only tank too that I put another two dozen cherries in at the same time around two years ago and they've managed to increase their numbers to over 200! And they share that tank with Amanos and vampire shrimp without any issues at all. Any ideas what's happening?

    Oto's will benefit from added catappa leaves or oak leaves sterilized and deiws, then boiled. Auf wuchs and bio film wil grow on thee leaves making fresh food for any fry. make sure you add a foam filter on your HOB/Cannister filter's intake to prevent the fry feom getting sucked up.

    Great video! I just started a 40 gallon Breeder a few weeks back for Neocaridinia shrimp. I have Otos in my 20 planted tank, but decided I needed them in my 40 also, as well as my other favorite pygmy corys. I think all 3 could breed really well together, except I don't think the shrimp would love a 40-50% waterchange unless maybe it was dripped back in over 4-5 hours? Anyways, looking forward to part 3 and how to feed the fry

    Do Otos breed like corys and capture the eggs in the female's ventral fins? Or do they breed differently?

    • @MARKSAQUATICS
      @MARKSAQUATICS  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes they breed in exactly the same way. The only difference is the amount of egg's. Otos only drop one egg at a time.
