Gees you are like a master fish keeper, you put the neons in the tank and they breed pretty much immediately, must be something to do with the moustache, I am going to grow one also.

You should sit some of the stones in your hill stream loach tank in a glass of water to build up algae and when your breeding tank has a load of food in it the loaches are more likely to breed as there's a load of food for the fry and the adults know this

Amazing info, thank you! After your video, I tried sticking 3 of my neon tetras in my hang on breeder box with some aquasoil, RO water, humin fluid and moss. I removed them after about 36 hours not expecting much, but I thought I'd just have a peek in the breeder box with the light on and I can see eggs!! I didn't actually see them spawn but they seemed to spend a lot of time at the back of the box behind the moss. Hopefully we'll see some wigglers soon, even if it's just a few 😍👍

    • @ciber5650

    • @superjaz1810
      @superjaz1810 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@ciber5650 some snails were on the moss and I didn't realise. No fry, so I assume the eggs were eaten. I've tried 3 more times with different pairs of fish in a slightly bigger setup, but I only managed to get 2 white eggs 😪

Congratulations on the new method of breeding neon tetras... . Thank you for sharing. Gorgeous peppermint plecos. Try using 2 or 3 males per female. Nick Sir i really want you to get success with discus so i strongly recommend you using a egg crate light diffuser to separate the male from female when they spawn again. That's after he fertilized them. Leave the mom to tend to eggs. Secondly you could put a mesh over the eggs to prevent the parents from eating them but still have access to fan the eggs. Keep trying with the discus fish..
As for the neon tetras you could try 2 males per female or 2 pairs to encourage higher chances of spawning.. but use more cover for eggs so not to get eaten. Do you think guppy grass would be ok to use instead of java moss?
Could you link the ro unit your using?
    Best of luck

Next time you can try simulate sunrise with led light and a light dimmer for tetra spawns. It worked great for several of my spawns and my tds is way higher than 20ppm

Aha! Thanks for this tip. I'm currently amidst an attempt to get my Hemigrammus sp. Morse Code group to spawn (RO @ 22°C/TDS 9 and some Java Moss). If my current attempt fails I might just replace the light with one that supports sunrise simulation.

  • @CaptLah

nice video, if you want to prevent the fish eating their eggs, i suggest that you cover the floor with marbles. i had success when breeding zebra tetra in the past. also lowering the waterlevel helps. i used to cover the tank and then remove the cover in the morning. the sudden brightness paired with lower waterlevel triggers spawning

Alder cones are great for adding tannis to the water, not sure if there are any in Australia though! My Sister had neons that kept spawning in her community tank, with medium hard water and ph above 7. Don't know if the eggs would have hatched though if they were in a separate tank.

How can you tell the difference between male and female? I am thinking of maybe how plump they are. But if that is the case, how do you like really fatten the females up? Thinking of breeding neons so i can get a big school going. Maybe sell some along the way

I have a pool 3m x 5m with Neons.. They spawn like bugs.. I have borehole water running continuously into the pool.. after about 3 months, you'll have more neons than guppies. I also dont know if breeding them in such small quantities is profitable. But for a hobby, you advice is sound.. Really good videos. really good info.

Try using a net barrier in between discus and their eggs. Maybe discus like the taste of their eggs( or so it is said in india). I know a guy who uses a cylendrical metal net barrier whenever his discus spawn in the breeding cone so that they can't eat it.

Ever considered a hands free Egg Trap? It won’t work with Discus or Catfish, but it will work with most Tetras, Raboras, and most Danios kind. Professional Breeders use this method of hands free Egg collection. You are smart, you can DIY Egg collection system.

  • @TJTheFishDad

Do you think some dried sphagnum moss for reptiles (its sterilized) would work in lieu of the coconut fiber? It would also add some tanins in too.
