Epic episode, guys. Good storyline. You pull off the difficult trick of being natural on camera, whilst simultaneously taking care of the essentials of sailing. Looking forward to Uma's new look. She's a fine vessel.

    Umahoy,
Wow. I forgot a lot and missed a few of those adventures. Time to brush up and have another Umathon. Is that a word. Definition: watching copious and miscellany Umadventures, with but, sandspit sized breaks for food, bathroom use and sleep. All Umaboard.

What an incredible video compilation...so well done and SO beautiful!!! You two are amazing mates to each other, taking on the most harrowing of situations together and loving life even more for having done so. I love how you see the beauty of this beautiful planet without cynicism. You are rockstars in my book, just doing what you love to do. Thank you both, from the bottom of my heart, for making the world a better place.❤

I had been casually following several sailing channels, but when I found yours about four years ago, I promptly binge watched from the beginning to catch up, and have slowly left the other channels behind. This fast review of the past nine years was definitely up to your very high standards of video editing. I have traveled to over 60 countries myself (on land), so I understand your thirst for travel and adventure. Thank you so much. I am looking forward to your coming adventures, especially since you have added the defender to your explorations. I can't wait! Networks with their producers, writers, editors, and more, could learn from the two of you. You two, and your drone, are as good as or better than they are. As I said a few lines ago, I can't wait for what's coming next. Go Uma!

If I remember correctly, my first episode was the day Uma arrived in Florida by truck from Boston. I immediately binged watched the episodes I had missed. This channel is my first YT sailing channel and the one responsible for reawakening a childhood dream of sailing the world. The time has gone by so quickly. It has been a true pleasure to have accompanied you guys so far and I look forward to seeing what you will do to make Uma last another fifty years..

My first episode was Kika cleaning the deck of what looked like a boat that was ready to fall apart.
Went back to step 1 and haven't missed an episode.
My favorite step was their visit to a warship, and my favorite story is about how Coco came to live with them.

Like most people I found you when Kika first destroyed the furniture industry by telling people not to buy a couch. That was a great episode and they've gotten better each week. UMA was the first boat I watched being taken apart then put back together. For nine years I've watched your sailing adventures, listened to your story telling and being with you as you developed into a wonderful couple who are doing what they love. Thank you for taking us along and best wishes for the next 9.

I have long maintained that the explosion of TH-camrs has negated the need for anyone to go to film school. The experience and skills that content creators are developing in the real world making real stuff for real people far outshines any formal education. This channel is the first one I mention when speaking about this. Great work Kika - keep it up! BTW, when is the wedding? Or are you just staying engaged?

    • @AndieBlack13
      @AndieBlack13 ปีที่แล้ว +2

"...negated the need for anyone to go to film school." Really?, I'm guessing your standards for cinematography is rather low then...most all created video content here on TH-cam is of rather poor quality, lighting, sound, composition, creative cinemaphotography utterly lacking.

Now that Uma is completly empty and you will start from cero on making all the furniture up, why not make it in a way so in case of emergency and you have to abandond ship quickly, you can get a whole box of storage of canned goods, food or water out quickly? Everything is possible, all you need is to figure out how. :D

After spending the last 4 years cruising the archipelago in the South of Norway in a 25ft cabin cruiser, my girlfriend and I just bought a 2005 Beneteau Oceanis 323. She's an experienced sailor, but this is all new to me. It's the end of our season and we just put the boat up for the Winter. Im so inspired by your video. I can't wait until the Spring. . Who knows, perhaps we'll one day see you in the open seas. Great voyages to you both. 💌

Thank you! This is a great video to pass on to others that may not understand sailing.
Being "brought up" (4-7 weeks of summer vacations) on a small sail boat, mainly in the larger Stockholm archipelago. My late dad loved that geography, life style, culture (and boat) and I will now show this video to my kids (10 and 12) to make them somewhat understand what the sea is and how amazing it is. Hopefully they can, in some part, be inspired by your "non highway of living".
When economy allows and they have grown some more I will buy a boat with my brother and his family and go sailing.❤

Seeing UMA empty reminds me of building pilot boats back in the UK. The only real difference is the pilot boats have hollow stringers glassed in for additional strength. Watching your 9 in 9, I realised how long I've been following your progress, maybe a bit envious as life commitments haven't allowed me to leave Spain yet :)

I watched this episode for a while with the closed captions and it can be funny at times when it spells sail as sale (really, it's a sailboat show!) encourages for anchorages etc, then got to Norway with (truma for Tromsø). But then came Svalbard! or, spalart, spard, fallard, with its pullo bears(?) and hurricane Forest winds and sailing in the Fur (fjord)! 😆

I thoroughly enjoyed the flashbacks and reminiscing about those great times I am now re-experiencing vicariously again through your efforts! Finally I can get some good nights of sound sleep while on the hard for the next year, while UMA is renovated!
Large doses of Vitamin A (one big pill per meal) until your skin clears and then you can start reducing it to 2/day then 1/day. I had acne in high school and it was a terrible embarrassment. Finally a dermatologist gave me a medication that cleared it right up and I've kept it that way. The "medicine" was nothing more than Vitamin A. It was just a byproduct of an unbalanced diet for me. Hope it helps.

I've been watching from the start, and I'm still watching now. I gues you guys keep your channel fresh, inspiring, intriguing. :) Keep at it. No I'm not a patron. I'm refitting my own boat with every penny I have, you know how that goes, don't you?

Empty hull ... great video and summary and fun to be reminded of all those beautiful narratives and vistas. Norway under show was even more beautiful in this summary than in my memories.
Empty hull .. I saw a Hallberg-Rassy advertorial the other day and it illustrated how they don't need the big cross-boards (forgot the English name) that make the hull retain its shape. They use what they call "hull stiffeners" and this boils down to simply put simply something like our ribcage. They have big stiffening ribs or rods lengthwise and smaller ones that cross these and these enable low floors and give more degrees of freedom in interior design.
Uma may be strong enough being shorter and having a strong (but ageing) GFR wall, but you probably need space between hull and interior wall anyway, and I would personally want cable ducts that not just provide "a duct" but also keep different kinds of cables separate, like power, higher/lower voltage, instrumentation and controls, etc., and kinds of communication. This is not about large diameters, but merely about easy access, maintainability, knowing what is where and potentially limiting interference. Cable ducts could be part of a rib structure, maybe?
Perfectionism? Maybe. But you are architects and working DIY, you now also are the technical designers as well as the engineers that build it. In the videos so far you have demonstrated that you can do it. The question for you is if you think it is important enough. No need to answer it here. That will come in the videos of the next 9 years.

As beautiful as the Caribbean is, the arctic was drop dead amazing and gorgeous. The vantage point from Uma is a perspective I didn’t get from land. ❤️

I don't remember when I joined, but I remember the big refit, with the lazy Susan (I forgot what you called it) and I know I'd been around for a while by then.
While my wife and I are planning boat life starting next year, we can't do the sailboat, so, we are buying a power boat and will be starting by doing Americas great loop, then who knows what. I work a 3 week on, 3 off schedule, so the sailing dream is going to have to wait for a while. But, the loop can be done with my schedule. We've sold just about everything, but just need to sell (maybe) our sprinter we lived in for a few years then actual boat shopping starts.
Deciding if we want to go the "budget" route with an older boat that needs work, or just bite the bull it, and buy something newer and just get going. 🤷
I've always admired your get it done and make it happen attitudes, and of all the sailing channels I watch, yall seem the most genuine.
I also haven't forgot about the "pregnancy" hint that was given a while back. Been curious to see if it was just a prank..... Lol

Hmmm. 335 comments when I pipe in. Just a number by this point but I'll say as a somewhat recent followers of the channel, maybe 2 years ago, you are my favorite youtube channel. I found Uma due to my interest in electric boats but the adventure since crossing the Atlantic has been fantastic to follow. Or go back and follow. Always nice to see the maple leaf linked to the spirit of adventure that made Canada what it was and could be again. Congrats on 9yrs 🎉🥳

My grandfather was a tugboat cook and he made it to the NY TV news shows as he floated in a life ring, smoking a cigar and wearing his fedora after the barge his tug was pulling passed his boat flipping it over in Hell's Gate. Amazingly complex currents in that river.
