- Thanks to Exhaust Notes Australia, I got to spend a week with the 2023 Honda Civic Type R. Considering how lacklustre the base model Civic was, in my eyes, how will the Type R fare?

It looks AMAZING in Black. As manufacturers and politicians are trying to push everyone into electric cars, this Type R is a keeper specially since manuals are going away.
Does look good. I don’t have the discipline to own a black car and keep it clean though 😆 thanks for watching mate
Only politicians are pushing to EV
Black best color 😍
Great review and thoughts! I have a 2020 ND2 Miata since new and still enjoying it everyday.
Nice one mate. I’ve got an ND RF that I bought new in 2017. Sill love it every drive as well. Thanks for watching 😎👍
Good feedback. Cheers!
Thanks mate! Thanks for watching 😊
I have a 24 and it’s an amazing car .
Great review and walk around 😆
Congratulations mate! I still smile thinking about the time I got to spend with this car. Thanks for watching 😊
Great video. Lucky to get one myself in Championship white and for 72 NZ$😝 Get a case for your phone and it won’t move. Change your dials on the screen. Haven’t seen this arrangement on mine. Looking forward to getting out and putting on some kms.
That’s awesome mate! Huge congratulations and in the perfect colour no less 😎 thanks heaps for watching
G'Day Mate;
First, great looking car. I was hoping there would be a coupé option, to choose from and maybe a blue model. But I do like the auto.
Of the shifting, I was surprised, that it comes with "Rev Matching!" I thought only the Nissan 370z, had rev. I think that's great, as I think a sports car, should be manual and not automatic. ( I'm dodgy with heel toe, so rev is king ). I drove a manuel, in France, back in the day, ( 1986 ) and the stick itself was so high up, it was like driving a truck ( lory). And just as ruff going through the shifts. So, rev matching, would be a great asset.
For me I wouldn't like a wing, but I could see why blokes, would like it.
Great car. Great vid! Enjoyed the cinematography.
All the best Shaun of NYC 🗽
Thanks very much mate! Glad you enjoyed 😎
This is the car of the year. hands down!
Hard to argue! Thanks for watching mate 😊
Great review David, looking forward to picking mine up in the next couple of months. Will be sorry to let my i30N go however as I'm still enjoying that car, but really want to experience the new Type R. I'm planing to keep them both for a bit until I decide which I prefer. The i30N makes all the right noises so the R will definitely need an exhaust I think.
Hope the MX5 is going well mate!
You’re going to love it mate. I dare say you’ll do something to sort the lack of engine note, especially coming from a fire cracker like an i30n, but the rest is going to be right up your alley! Thanks heaps for watching mate ❤️
I’m in an identical situation to you. I have an i30 N and have put a deposit on a CTR… although mine is about a year away. The test drive of the CTR absolutely blew me away. I’ve never felt so connected to a car in my life.
@@miraclemiler71 yeah I only did a 10 min test drive but I agree, the best word I could use to describe it was “Precision”. The other comparison I heard in another review was that this is kind of like what you’d imagine a Porsche GT car would be like at this price point.
I must admit I am apprehensive about selling the N as it’s such a riot of a car. Will the Type R be more fun on the street? Only one way to find out I guess…!
@@miraclemiler71 that’s awesome! Congrats on the incoming CTR. Thanks for watching mate 😊
@nealkrempin7362 The CTR might be a great sporty 4 door sedan with a hatch but it will not be as fun as the N.
Great review! The looks are growing on me. I didn't mind the transformer Gundam robot look of the previous generation either. Just can't justify the money these cars are going for though.
Yep can agree with you on all of that. Thanks for watching mate 😊
I love the car but i wish the FL5 was a bit smaller and lighter. Honda went the wrong way compared to the FK8. Not a big deal though. All the proper driver inputs are still spot on it seems. Another winner from Honda.
It is amazing how much bigger the CTR is now, especially compared to the FD2. As you say though, it’s still a winner. Thanks heaps for watching 😊
You forgot the NVH is rather high.. It would be a little tiring on a few hundred km trip. You didn’t forget..I just played that bit😅
Haha appreciate the edit 😆 thanks for watching 😊
It is not just shy of 80k. They are sold at the MSRP of 72,600. Otherwise, excellent review!!
Thanks for watching mate! At the time of making the video I saw examples of people paying overs hence the just shy of 80K good to hear that’s stopped though.
Disable the navigation system in settings and the lag will be fixed.
Interesting! That’s a great tip. Thanks for watching 👍
has price gone up? 72.6K drive away before but in video you said 77K?
Real world pricing has them around the $77K mark. Some even higher. Can only imagine it’s playing on the fact there are delivery delays
@@DavidBournePhotoandVideothat’s not true that’s used car market. Buying direct from Honda is $72,600 drive away.
@@santoshrathod123 looking on carsales for dealer stock is where I am getting my pricing. I’m sure Honda’s website says one thing, doesn’t mean that’s real world unfortunately.
@@DavidBournePhotoandVideo that’s used or demo dealer stock. Brand new cannot be sold over MSRP and anyone who pays over deserves to get their head checked. Buy new from Honda and wait 6 - 12 months.
@@DavidBournePhotoandVideo I paid MSRP through Honda and that’s the real world price. No dealer stock cars are brand new.
I would had thought the wife would advocate the swap from mx5 to the type R for practicality and day to day comfort?
Na it’s not her cup of tea at all. We’ve got her car for “practical” and baby ferrying duties. Thanks for watching 😊
@@DavidBournePhotoandVideofair point, I do plan on keeping my nd2 as the secondary fun car for the longer term too
@@peterwong86 I’m gonna hang on to mine for as long as possible. I’m certain one day it’ll be a classic. And the more cars I drive the more I appreciate just how good it is.
@@DavidBournePhotoandVideoSame here. I'm in US with a ND (2020 new out the door $31k, 0% interest) and a 10 month baby. There's not many cars with same fun and value I would trade for. GRC core is $52k USD, Type R is $60k, and Type S is $72k and not allowing test drives. Test drove FK8 but didn't like the understeer feeling. Hoping for market to cool down. Wife has civic but will trade for a SUV. Most likely I'll keep the ND long term and get a cheap 4 door short range EV in future as a third car.
Yeah it’s a great car. I love mine but have had some rattles. Dealership have been great but it’s still super annoying.
Where abouts is the rattling from? Glad you’re enjoying it otherwise. Thanks for watching mate 😊
Every time I tell myself no more black cars this thing drops. Looks fire!
😆 just say “I promise this is the last time!” All is forgiven
Like the FK8 so much better, such a head turner.
Definitely stands out more, no denying that. Thanks for watching 😊
I like the FK8 better also, mine was Pearl Grey with Polymer coating...A real head turner in that colour with the Rallye Red highlights..Don't like Black car's but the new one looks nice in that colour..There is not much sound deadening in Type R's I made mine better with some light weight insulation...Changed Tweeters to Alpines and with insulation upgrade made sound system better ..People knock Type R's but they don't know the history eg Gear Knob, Red Honda Badge etc..
@@brianhill1523 that’s a stunning colour. Changes you’ve done sound great too. Thanks for watching 😎
Amazing review and an amazing car! I just wish it was more attainable...... :(
I know it's a sports car and all but come on... hahahaha
Thanks so much for the kind words, really appreciate it 😊 thanks for watching!
I stop wearing a ring to avoid scratching that nice aluminium gear knob.
Smart idea. I do love the little clink sound though. Maybe if I owned one I’d have to buy one for spares. Thanks for watching mate
proof the wing works better in the color of the car
100%! Can’t argue with that! Thanks for watching 😊
I had to google whats sunnys are lol
😆 I’m glad I can be an educational channel! Haha thanks for watching!
I think black for this generation looks better than the white
How come? I agree the spoiler looks more at home on the black. I still like how the white shows off the black accents though. Thanks for watching 😊
@@DavidBournePhotoandVideo Idk, in my eyes at least for this generation the black fits better, car looks more aggressive on every aspect, dont get me wrong i love white, i have a white 10th gen si, but black for this new gen flows better imo
@@raptor3291 fair comments!
Grossly overpriced.
Prices seem to make no sense right now. Considering the base model is $47K 😳
got a fk8 here in florida for 33k + a few grand for a 120k warranty. Want the new one but the dealerships are just being extra nasty on the markups
I get the whole supply vs demand thing but yeah I can imagine some dealers just being horrid about it. Thanks for watching 😊
