Thanks for the review. I’m in Australia and have just taken delivery of a new FL5 Civic Type R in Championship White. A fantastic car but unfortunately the dashboard rattles have not been fixed in the production vehicles. My car is heading back to the dealer tomorrow. It’s really frustrating given the amount of customers having the same issue with the FL5 Type R 😢 It should really be a recall item. Anyway fingers crossed this can be fixed and I can really start to enjoy the car!
@@jeremyhill3837 hi Jeremy, I still have the rattle in the dash. Honda have said it’s a known issue and hopefully will be fixed on the next update of the FL5. That doesn’t fix my issue though..
Honda sales in Australia dropped more than 30% consecutively for two years in 2020 and 2021, then followed by another 19% drop. Soon it may become Holden in AU market.
They are trying too hard to be a premium brand, reducing their lineup and forgetting about who their target market who made the bulk of their sales was.

Weird you show us all these comparable cars saying they're all too expensive compared to the "mighty" civic yet completely ignore the i30n sedan which is just as capable on track , nicer inside , more luxury features and actually more livable. Seems quite paid for to me.
Thank you for mentioning the flaws of the rear seating and the lack of ability to seat three passengers. I feel this a huge negative for the vehicle that could be easily corrected by @honda
1 year later and from every other reviews professional or not the conclusion so far is that this is the best hot hatch on the planet, yes better then AMG 45S, RS3, Golf R, WRX, corolla GR and i30N some are saying it's the supercar of hot hatches it's that good apparently.
People can say what they want but i still don't like the toned down look. I have the 2020 and appreciate the more aggressive looking tone than something a soccer dad would enjoy having. Unfortunately, I'll be holding on my R until i find something else that sparks interest but this future look isnt it.
Fk8 is got dam ugly. Something a 16 year old ricer that turned 20 would buy. Every dam thing on that thing looks slapped on and came out of the local auto parts store.
@Creshendo680 was saying exactly what you said until the FL5 was in person and you see how amazing the arches look and the stock wheels....the quality of materials, the build quality to the interior....to the way there is no fake vents....then they rectified every single part that was wrong with the FK8 to make it a better car...even gear ratio now same as FK2.....now that I own one there's no question its the best thing i have purchased
If only you could actually buy one for less than the price of a 2023 BMW M2. Got quoted almost $65,000 USD before tax, title, and registration. The car is cool, but for M2 money that's asking a lot Honda.
I was seriously ready to buy this car, but after seeing how many people have bad dash rattles i have decided to pass on it. $75k for a rattle box is not good enough. Now looking at GR Corolla.
The new Honda Civic Type R seems to be much more like a longer family hosting looking car - Honda changed it's character too much. And, here in Germany, it got too expensive. Last year I thought to buy a Type R 2022 (pre Model), but doesn't and bought a really hot hatch i30N Performance with 8-G DCT including all extras. For me, the much better choice.
Great car and I like it a lot. However my wife’s 60th Anniversary Mini cost $55k drive away & came with 5 years free servicing and warranty. It’s quieter and has every other feature except hers is a 7 speed DSG with paddle shifter. She’s done 55,000 kms and the car hasn’t missed a beat. I can’t help thinking that another 25k for the Type R is a lot. As she said though, all prices have gone mad. Oh the Mini has heads up display, panoramic sunroof, heated leather seats, wireless Apple Car play and android auto, great all round vision. Effortless to drive and beat the daily traffic, it’s very nimble, no cheap carpet in the boot… However I’d still happily drive the Honda…just wish it was a little cheaper
@@davothegreat9990 I like the Honda, but appreciate what the Mini has to offer especially at the price we paid. I think it’s a relative bargain and a hell of a lot of fun. Since purchased almost 5 years ago, it hasn’t missed a beat…
Handles as good as they say and i know because i have one. Straight line speed i can't review impartially due to my previous car having more than double the BHP and was AWD. First FWD car i have had in a very long time and its actually not disappointing though off the line and in wet weather front grip not as good as some of the competition. So far only 200 allocated for here in the UK so for those who already have one they are reselling for more than list price even the dealership will buy it back for what i paid for it. Too expensive? Initially yes but over time the limited number produced may slow down depreciation.
I prefer to drive my new BRZ but it's more comfy in the Type R.. I do regret getting the Type R though, it's too expensive and I'm prob going to trade for an MT Supra which feels a lot more premium (thanks to BMW I guess). Problem then is that I'll have 2 coupe's... oh well 😂
@MKu64 😂 prefer driving a BRZ is all you needed to say, then you want to trade in a type R for a supra 😂😂...please go down that road and then come back and have a chat.
@@van_der_lindeDA ? are you ok? 🤣 I went away from the Supra because it was far too cramped inside for me, I'm too tall to fit. The BRZ is absolutely more fun to drive than the Type R.
