    For mext time you're in Florida, the Spanish Moss hanging from the trees makes a good scrubbie. Cleans dishes and pots real well. It also has antibacterial and anti coagulant properties. So happy you enjoyed our Florida woods.

    Florida hiking is unlike most other places. It seems to be cool but as soon as you start moving, you run out of water fast. I usually carry 3-5 liters depending on the distance I have to go. It’s an insane amount of weight but without it, I’m useless. Lots of electrolytes and water when I’m hiking
    Everglades is a national park but ocala national forest is a national park too. Not sure what the guidelines for filming are but our group “Florida Bushcraft” is in there almost every weekend and they film all the time. ONF is far better than Everglades in my humble opinion! And you were in one of the best places in the ONF. GREAT job man
    Also those are live oaks with Spanish moss. Chiggers love that stuff so don’t play too much it it

      Can never have enough water. A 32oz Nalgene bottle does not last as long as you believe it will when it's warm let alone hot.

    • @CampingwithSamBananas
      @CampingwithSamBananas  28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hey bud! You're totally right about the water but I knew there would be that pond there. As for Ocala, it's a National Forest, not a National Park. The rules for NF are generally looser and that's what I tent to stick to them. See you on the next one!

    • @michaelmeadows5142
      @michaelmeadows5142 25 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I'm sure you already know this, but if you know you'll be hiking in Florida's high heat temps, pre-hydrate days to a week in advance. It's torture to a guy like me who is like a fish out of the water and easily hits heat exhaustion/stroke body temps, pre-hydrating is a life saver.

    Camped there many times! The trail continues to the south and is a bit longer and has more sugar sand, but it goes to the Juniper Springs Recreation area. The pond you were getting your water from is "Hidden Pond" and is spring fed, while the others are all ground water and are mostly stagnant and not good for drinking. Warmer times of the year, you will see ticks, pigmy rattlers and of course black bears around there. Never seen a gator at the pond, as it's pretty far from where they prefer to live. They've cleaned it up a lot since I was last there....there was more downed trees/logs around the campfire area that they removed. Even looks like they've mowed the grass in there, as the spot where you set up your tent usually is grassy. And the trees are Live Oaks. Great weekend hiking/camping spot that the Scouts use a lot in the cooler months.

    Just a question (not a criticism at all!) but when Sam pulled the food bag on the rope all the way up to the branch does that make it accessible for racoons? I'm from Ohio so we generally do not need to tie up our food etc. Should it dangle a couple feet ro prevent racoons getting into it?

      Worked great and didn't have a problem with ants. I'm aware the bugs can climb, but getting your food off the ground still helps.

    Nice video and different tent. I wonder if you sometimes miss your dog when he's not at camp with you. And wow Ohio. I was born and raised there. I just came back from living in bushnell Florida since 2016. Then lived in way waycross ga before that

      Hi bud! Yeah I do miss the little puppers sometimes. But we have three dogs total, so leaving them is part of it.

    I parked for the night in the Everglades once in my old box truck and I knew the one tail light bulb needed replaced and I said to hell with that until I get back to main land during the day!😂especially since it was pitch black there. I didn’t want to be a slim Jim snack for some alligator!🤣got great pics of Orion’s Belt for my ex girlfriend though with phone and she loved em lol.
