So pleased you've discovered M People. A hidden UK gem for you guys across the pond. They were DEFINITELY 90s not 80s. Plenty to choose from including "How Can I Love You More", "Don't Look Any Further", "One Night in Heaven", "Proud" , "Search for The Hero " and "Renaissance" to name just a few. Just to add, the reason they're called M People is after the "leader" of the band called Mike Pickering (the guy on sax). An influential Club DJ of the time who was part of the late 80's Chicago/Acid House scene in Manchester and the UK in general. A great DJ and remixer. This is his group.

The name "M People" comes from the name of the group's founder, Mike Pickering ("Mike's People"), although many people assume that the "M" stands for Manchester, which is where the band's from (9 miles up the road from me). They formed in 1990. If you want to see another stunning British soul singer, check out Beverley Knight:

M People definitely 90s. 'M' stood for 'Mike's People' ( a lot of people mistakenly think the M stood for Manchester because that is where most of the band were from/lived.)
Mike is Mike Pickering, the chap on saxophone. He is also a producer. His intention originally was to have a rotation of singers (Mike's People) in the same way Soul II Soul did in the late 80s, but they found Heather Small and he couldn't move on from here voice, and the rest is history!

This is early nineties, 1993. It has a characteristic, sort of minimalist, vaguely 70s-disco sound that you also heard in popular music of the time from artists like Ce Ce Peniston, Crystal Waters, etc. And their name sounds seventies to me, reminding me of late seventies disco groups like M and Boney M.

Oh my god I absolutely love M People. I saw their on cassette in a bargain bin. I bought it and I was hooked. I have bought everyone of their albums. All the singles are absolutely stone cold hits! They are called M People were named after founding band member Mike Pickering who was a DJ at legendary Manchester club.
Please please dig into their incredible bank catalogue, you will never be bored or disappointed with any of their output.
On a side note Heather Small released some solo material. So you must check out her solo track "Search for the hero" it was a massive massive hit. ❤❤

Search for a hero, one night in heaven, two other great songs of hers and the band. They were fairly big in the mid 90s and kind of disappeared after that.

Back when I was DJing, if you couldn't fill a dance floor with an M People track you were in trouble, the whole production of their records was great, check out
    One Night In Heaven
    Fantasy Island
    Angel Street
How Can I Love You More
Just to name a few of their hits 🇬🇧

There was a brit comedy series called miranda that was written by and starred miranda heart.she owns a shop her and her assistant would have heathers face on a stick.every now and then would put it in front of their faces and imitate her singing what have you done today to make you feel proud.which is from her song proud.in one ep she made a guest appearance.it was so awkward yet so funny.
    They're an early 90's group.

If y’all come back to New Orleans, there’s a club that has a drink special called Sunday tea. It starts on Sunday afternoon. My point is you probably still could hear this song played there
