i mean, this video is really great (and it helps that I freaking love gravity rush) but there’s beautiful essays out there that needs to be that long for the propose of not leaving any point introduced earlier. and if the subject interests you, you could even watch a 3h+ video, I did before. you can support and complimenting without looking down on other works you know
@@masekyn5480 I don't know why you assumed I was putting down anyone😕 Was simply stating an opinion. I have several 1hr+ essays in my watch later list. And in fact before this I watched a 2hr+ essay. What are you even talking about right now?
Gravity Rush 2 is one of my favorite games of all time, I am glad to find a neat short video of someone talking about it. You really do want to ponder what the 3 could have been. A PS5 launch title with amazing visuals and utilizing DualSense, you can only dream sadly
Thanks so much for watching! Let me know if you ever end up playing the series. The first game is also great and was remastered for the PS4. I think you can start with 2 though.
Gravity Rush 2 also released around the time Playstation HQ moved from Japan to California. It's not inconceivable they wanted to remove their identity as a Japanese Games developer to better focus on their "Prestige" games
Me grabbing every Gravity Rush related video ever to cope with my Gravity Rush withdrawal. Thank you so much for making this. I'm so happy people are about this game :')
This was very cozy, I'm glad YT recommended it. You're completely right that the Gravity Rush games have a uniqueness and charm to them that makes me root for them. The devs pulled off the central idea flawlessly; Kat would still be fun to move around if the game world had no enemies, no story and no context at all.
Gravity Rush is an underated gem of a game series. Wish more people would play it. Falling upward is such a unique feeling that I only can get from playing this game.
Nailed it. I've always told people that Gravity Rush 1 + 2 have the charm of a 6th gen game. Thankfully I got to play GR2 while the servers were still up. And speaking of games with 'Rush' in the title, if you've never checked out Hi-Fi Rush it's another game that I feel really has that 6th gen energy as well.
Gravity Rush 1 and 2 are great games and underrated. There isn't anything else like it. To add to your point about Gravity Rush being a part of an era PlayStation wanted to leave behind, it's worth noting that Gravity Rush 2 did not have a trailer shown on the mainstage at E3. Why was that? It's like PlayStation left the game to fail. They arguably did that with other Japan Studios projects like Puppeteer, which was released at the end of the PS3 cycle near GTA5 and which never got a PS4 port.
Excited to see more of these episodes! Maybe this will be the motivation I’ve been looking for to do something similar as I work through my backlog. I’m definitely bumping the Gravity Rush games up a few notches because of this, too :)
That last part is a bit of a stretch, all games have molds and GR2 followed that mold if get picky about it yk, anyway its sad that it flopped like most Japan Studio games that aren't noticeable Collabs (Bloodborne) which is 80% of their trackrecord lol. They can style be weird, unique or experimental with game like Helldivers 2, Astrobot or Returnal, the last one is pretty risky and bold like a Triple A bullet hell roguevania? still sold more than any other (original) Japan studio game, so much so to make Sony buy Housemarque. And it's a shame cuz they try to make this IP a big deal, make a remastered for the PS4, the fact that they even greenlit a sequel, big conference trailers like that E3 2016 and even 2 OVAs, people just didn't buy it, sucks that some cry about Japan Studios shutting down while not buying their games decades, just bragging that they bought used copies as if those still generate any money lmao at least they could buy the game at the digital PS store.
Been playing a lot of 6th gen games alongside playing newer games like Gravity Rush and this video hits the nail the head. I hold great respect for the marvels that are PlayStation’s “Prestige” games but I do miss when they would put resources into odd “all-stars” (ps3-ps4) era games like Tokyo Jungle, The Puppeteer, and of course Gravity Rush. They harken back to Sony’s 6th gen push with the PS2 as for every big game like MGS2 or FFX there was a more niche Ico or boku no natsuyasumi 2 bringing even more depth to the catalog. I hope Sony learns to right lessons from its success with Astro bot and release less expensive games that don’t necessarily follow the safer 3rd person openworld, cinematic game formula.
I kinda hope for a PC release. I feel like people outside of Sony's ecosystem would appreciate both of the Gravity Rush games much better than the people Sony was catering to with their new brand.
Wonderfully short video, with a lot to digest. Gravity Rush caught my attention on Vita but, if I am being honest, it was overly ambitious (as a portable title). I feel that it deserved a console port and hope others look into it. With the news of Freedom Wars returning, I am excited to see smaller titles get there time to shine. ❤
A bit shallow on the description of what GR2 was, especially with its ambition on Story, the marketimg (remember those short animations or commercial), but you did piece it all well together to present message of why GR2 fell a bit short in terms of memories of the general PS4 audience
The moral of the story is…. People would rather bitch about a AAA franchise, but when something comes up completely out of left field that is actually new and very different. People won’t even try to pay attention to it
I can't watch video essays on this game because I don't want to think people are spreading opinions that are even slightly different from own about the game.
I think you can definitely start with 2. There's some story stuff in the later acts that is more referential of the first game, but overall it's not a bad entry point. The first game is also great though!
now THIS is what i call a low key video essay
*cue generic lo-fi beats in the background*
Goes to show that a video essay doesn't have to be 30+ mins.
gwbuinely rhe only one i watched the actual video part of 100% through

But I love those long ones, too, if I have nothing else to do for the day.
"Flyimg by Falling" is SUCH a good tagline they shouldve used it to sell that game
Gravity Rush 2 is one of my favorite games of all time, I am glad to find a neat short video of someone talking about it. You really do want to ponder what the 3 could have been. A PS5 launch title with amazing visuals and utilizing DualSense, you can only dream sadly
Thank you for this lovely video. _Gravity Rush_ and its sequel are definitely on my list.
Gravity Rush 2 has never left my PS4/5, I need to stop glancing at it in aesthetic admiration & finish/revel in it. Thx 4 the gentle push!
I really enjoyed your love letter to an underrated gem! Excited for more, the cozy vibes and brevity are a winning combination. Keep it up!
love this! gravity rush looks so cool, thanks for sharing

Hello there
incredible, un-indulgent (dulgent?), personal video. Hell yeah Stephen. Cant wait for more.
Me grabbing every Gravity Rush related video ever to cope with my Gravity Rush withdrawal. Thank you so much for making this. I'm so happy people are about this game :')
Gravity Rush, my beloved.

I haven't smashed that subscribe button so hard in a long time. Great piece. It's on my radar now :)
Wow, the visuals really compliment the video here in a way that stands out :) lovely essay and love your work!
Thank you so much! So glad you enjoyed the editing
That wasn’t falling, that was flying with style!
Great video, Stephen!
Love to finally see this thing you've been working on
Well now I really wanna play Gravity Rush! Loved the video, can't wait for the next!

great video essay, happy to see what you and Brendon work on outside of ITA. keep it up!
Damn. This video rules!
Thanks so much, Kyle!
Great video man!
This channel will blow up. Great stuff.
YES

Thx for making this video! Gravity rush is one of my favorite games of all time, I wish we had a sequel/remake
Been a bit behind on my podcasts and didn’t know about this project. I’m excited for it!
Now this is what I like
Well, I'm hooked!
I see Gravity Rush, I click. Adore these games.
very cool video
Love to see the Dreamcast as an ongoing touch point. Shoutout to all the BAD games!
Good video! It reminds me I have either this or the first one on my PS4. And that I own a Vita and PSTV.😮
Great idea👏👍 looking forward
Omg yes!! Immediate sub🎉
ecco the dolphin is an actual triumph in videogame history
Screamed when I heard Stephen's voice. Thank you youtube algo
YT algorithm pulling through, solid analysis cuh
Does anyone remember the mystical time before PlayStation Studios got stuck in Secaucus Junction?
I wanna play this game so bad but I sold my PS4 😢 Love to see more lowkey content from the aether crew! Keep it up!

Gravity Rush is the only memorable sony series to me.
wish they would remaster gravity rush 2 or atleast give it a 60 fps update
Everyone else wants PS4 emulation for Bloodborne, I want it for Gravity Rush
A bit shallow on the description of what GR2 was, especially with its ambition on Story, the marketimg (remember those short animations or commercial), but you did piece it all well together to present message of why GR2 fell a bit short in terms of memories of the general PS4 audience
Cant believe this is your first video

Gravity Rush is not yet lost
I can't watch video essays on this game because I don't want to think people are spreading opinions that are even slightly different from own about the game.
do you need to have played the first one?

@@MemoryCardManuscript thank you.
