For those reading about Lisbon I have an idea for you if you just want to explore the city. You can get a 24 hr transit pass for a reasonable price that allows you to get on any tram or bus or metro and one of the ferries. Then hop on whatever bus or tram comes first. Ride it a while till you see something interesting and want to get off. Then get on the next bus or tram that comes along and do the same. Don't worry about where they are going. At the end of the day use a map and figure out how to get back to your hotel or just call an UBER as they are very cheap in Lisbon and get a direct ride home.
Great tip! Wish we did this the transit options are incredible in Lisbon and fun and scenic. Great great tip! Where was the ferry and where does it go? I don’t remember seeing it on our visit.
We are Americans living in Lisbon. We found your channel yesterday and binged about 15 videos! (Liked and subscribed, of course!) We’re a bit obsessed (not in a creepy way) The quesadilla place in this video is a place we’ve walked by so many times but have never tried. Because of this video we ate there today. Fabulous! Next time you’re in Lisbon we’d love to buy you dinner! Safe travels!
Thank you so so much! We were only able to visit Lisbon in Portugal so we want to go back and explore so much more! Honestly Lisbon might be the most beautiful city we’ve visited in Europe! Thanks a million for the invitation we will be sure to take you up on that to try some real deal Portuguese food! See you soon!
Just returned from 10 days in Lisbon from the center of the USA. 100% of our meals were fantastic. Some restaurants we read reviews for but most were places we just walked past and decided to give it a try. Every single meal we ate everything on the plate. I have Celiac Disease and Lisbon was one of the easiest places to find quality gluten free meals. We love seafood so that made it easy.
Wow how interesting! Had no idea that it was so gluten free accommodating, that’s really cool. There is nothing better than stumbling into a restaurant you know nothing about and having a great experience and delicious food, this is why we spend so much time on the road! Thanks so kindly for you comment and we are jealous of your 10 days in Portugal! Have an awesome day and happy adventuring!
Thanks a million! We didn’t even scratch the surface. So much amazing food, rich history and it’s easily one of the most beautiful places we’ve visited. Now we are getting fomo for your trip! Have the best time!
The Portuguese Monks did not study in Paris. The Portuguese method of making flaky pastry is different from the French method. Fortunately, every culture has very good food
So true...everything is up hill in Lisbon lol. We really love Lisbon and can't wait to get back there! Just found your channel and subscribed so that we can follow along on your adventures. Looking forward to your Asian travels too. Cheers from Vancouver :)
😂 thanks so much! We did a food tour video there, you have to let us know how we did! th-cam.com/video/mjkzJOxmqqM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=N-EfP0hk8jU7TzzC Travel through Canada living in our Prius and fell in love, got to see Banff and Jasper too!
I live in Newark NJ which has a large Portuguese population, I grew up eating these made at a local bakery, first time I went to Portugal in 2017 I had these again and I was taken back to my childhood since I can't get them THAT good anymore although I've gone to many Portuguese bakeries in my city.
What an incredible treat to eat as a child! We didn’t even run into these until our late adulthood. The ones from that spot in Lisbon were mind blowing.
Hi there - I just found your channel while searching for Spain/Portugal videos and I'm glad I did. Now I'm gonna binge watch your channel. We will be there in November of this year & I'm just starting my research on what to do so thank you for sharing your knowledge with everyone! - Michell from frozen Colorado
Thank you so much, this comment just made our friggin day! Such beautiful places you guys are gonna have a blast. Thanks for watching and we hope you have the best time on your trip! Cheers!
We had no idea that tascas were a thing. There was a place by our hotel that fits this description served grilled meats and sides but the line was always too long. We have dreams about the piri piri from there. Such a unique flavor we had no idea it was localized like that. Thanks for the great comment and for watching our travels! Cheers!
Lisboeta here. Just to clarify one thing before you make a mistake visiting Portugal. Bifana is a type of pork cut, it's not a dish. You can have it grilled with rice for instance. The famous bifana sandwiches are 2, bifanas de vendas novas and bifanas à moda do Porto. We can argue which ones are the best, but for tourists, the hype is usually about bifanas à moda do Porto because of the sauce, they're slowly cooked in a tomato, beer, garlic, onions, port wine, whisky, plus some aromatics and spices. That's what you need to search for. In Lisbon you usually find bifanas à moda de Vendas Novas, which you did since those weren't cooked in a tomato sauce, just beer, garlic, bay leaves and some spices including chilli flakes
I’m visiting family in Sweden and headed to Lisbon mid December This is just the video I’ve been looking for as I love small places with great food By the way you two both have really great smiles
Amazing! We spent American thanksgiving in Stockholm last year. I think we got Ikea for our meal😂. Thanks for watching, you’re gonna love Lisbon it’s incredible. So is Sweden. Have a memorable trip!
@@HeresGoodTravel my son and his family live in Karlstad for the last 7 years and Stockholm for 7 before that Stockholm is such a beautiful city but I’ll just fly out of there to Lisbon this year I’m looking forward to seeing Lisbon and taking a day trip to Sintra and maybe Nazare if the waves are high I’ll follow your channel and dream about the other places before I get too old 🤣
If you’ve watched any of our other videos you know we need all the help we can get😂. We had a friend visit recently and they brought us like 5 cans of bomb fish! The best souvenir ever! Since we were traveling with backpacks we couldn’t bring any back. Such a win!
Usually avoid travel couples and family videos as I find them annoying, but y'all seem normal and genuine and fun! Flying to Lisbon tomorrow; staying in Ribamar, near Ericeira. As a Texan, I think I would have been afraid to try any European quesadilla, but perhaps I will see this place!
Thank you for the kind comment! We strive to be authentic and honest so I’m glad you see that in our videos! I hope you enjoy Lisbon, let us know any new spots we should check out next time we go to lisbon, Have a great trip!
We only had Bacalhau as the fried variety but it was delicious, salty and unique. We wish we had more recommendations but this video was all that we are in 3 short days. We were also at the end of our 100 days in Europe so we didn’t get out nearly as much as we should’ve. There are restaurants on seemingly every corner so fallow your nose and your heart and you’re bound to find something delicious.
Thank you so much for this video. My wife and I and another couple are heading to Lisbon next month for four days and then touring the entire country. Do you have videos of other cities in the country?
Thank you so much for watching and commenting. We are a little bit jealous of your trip we wish we could come with! Unfortunately, we only visited Lisbon in Portugal, but we have plans to return and we will be sure to make videos when we do.
You’re very welcome! Thanks for watching and commenting, it’s so helpful for our little channel. We are jealous, we only got to go to Lisbon this visit but we will be back to explore more of Portugal. Have the best time!
Thank you so so much! SARDINE FESTIVALS🤯😵💫😍! We just looked it up it looks like so much fun. Although we learned the hard way that we don’t have what it takes to keep up while partying with the Portuguese 😂. Thanks for the recommendation when we go back we will try to make it for his. Thanks for watching!
Some really nice suggestions. One point on the tipping though. You say that it isn't obligatory which is true. It is however polite and greatly appreciated to tip around 10% especially when you enjoyed the food, drink and or service. It just shows you care.😉👍🏼
We have kind of heard different things, but as tourists who are adjust visiting, and even though we are budget travelers, we do have the means, and if we can afford to eat out, we can afford to leave a little extra for the people who work so hard to prepare and serve our food for us. We don’t want to offend any cultures, but we do like to show our appreciation monetarily.
Thank you so much! Lisbon is freaking BEAUTIFUL! Maybe the prettiest in Europe. Thanks for the nice comment and for following our adventure. Have an incredible time on your trip!
Amazing! Right next to the Bifana spot is a huge nice food hall called Timeout (like the magazine). But the Bifana was more authentic and affordable. The egg tarts are on the top of the list of our favorite things to eat! Have Ana amazing trip, it’s one of the most beautiful cities we visited!
Sol e Pesca looks amazing, I have to try that goat cheese. Near Pink Street, don't miss Time Out Market: brilliant food court, my favorite place in Lisbon.
Holy cow we actually went there. It was right next to the place that we got our bifana! The only problem was this was part of around the world trip and our budget was only $82 a day so most of the items in the timeout area. We’re a little bit out out of our budget for this visit. We got to walk around there though and watch all the other people eat delicious food.😂
Thank you so much! We will get back there soon for sure! Next up we are going to Mexico, Japan, South Korea and Vietnam!! Thanks for the kind comment!🥰
Surprisingly enough everywhere we went took a card. The sandwich shop we had to walk across the street to a souvenir shop to pay so it probably would’ve been better to pay cash there. But even at small places card was accepted. Have an awesome trip, we are jealous!
Thanks so much! We didn’t even scratch the surface but we were pumped with our choices! Lisbon is one of the most beautiful places in Europe, you’re gonna have a blast!
We were on just a few days at the end of 100 days in Europe and had a ton to do before our journey to Mexico. We promise to return and eat so much more and explore many more Portuguese cities. If you have an recommendations please let us know for our next visit! Thank you so so much, cheers
Guys you seriously need to stop saying to local how cheap they charge, local clients those that actually sustain the very life of these busineses will appreciate that you do not tamper with the fair prices. Remember they get their portuguese salaries that have to be enough for them to be able to afford lunch and living in lisbon.
Remember that saying cheap or expensive is your personal perspective and that the things that are expensive to you maybe considered cheap by other people and you wouldn't like that one day you cannot longer afford lunch because of gentrification (local greed).
Thank you for watching and for the comment. We don’t mean cheap in quality just in affordability. We understand that it is important to keep prices low as we also live in one of the most expensive cities in the world, and we rely on affordable places. We will try to be better with our verbiage but hope to attract more visitors to the smaller shops so they can also make more money.
Ehiiii, the Piadina it’s actually an italian food from Romagna!!! Teh one you tried was quite good, but the real piadina it’s very different, that restaurant is a like the mc, i mean there are lots of them. If you go in Italy you must try it!!
I guess now that we say it out loud it does sound very Italian. We have only been to Rome and Milan but didn’t come across this sandwich on those travels. We ate some incredible food in Rome if you haven’t checked out that video. We are obviously very interested in going to visit other cities in Italy so we will keep our eyes peeled for the original when we go. Thank you!
@@HeresGoodTravel When you started out with La Piadina I got worried. LOL. Yes, it's definitely not Portuguese. It is right by my apartment, but I have actually never tried it. I'm glad you guys were adventurous and tried the "local" eateries. The little mom & pop places are the best!
mal podemos esperar para ver mais de Portugal e experimentar mais comida portuguesa autêntica na nossa próxima viagem! tivemos apenas alguns dias e apaixonámo-nos por Lisboa!
The chinese or asian verion of those is because the portuguese kinda "discovered" those lands and had varios ports under their control, and the two cuisines kinda came together..for exaple, tempura has portugese origins
I suppose that was us that take the "pasteis de nata" and other kind of food to Asia. The Japonese "tempura" and "castela cake" are portuguese recipes.
Exactly, we tried them for the first time in a trip to China and again in Thailand. The best were obviously in Portugal. Really hard to find in the Us. We learned on our trip to Japan that tempura is also from Portugal, crazy!
Piadinas are italian.. Manteigaria is one of the best Pastel de Nata makers. Everything is pretty authentic places locals eat at, some were not even cheap, theres cheaper spots to eat, specially snack bars and little restaurants that will serve a full meal for under 10€.
lol we learned about the piadinas after the fact. Was a unique style of place we hadn’t seen before. You’re not the first to mention the snack bars, we didn’t see any on our visit but weren’t really looking either. Could you recommend a place to visit and maybe a dish to try? We will be back without question!
@@HeresGoodTravel One type of restaurant you can find everywhere are the "Churrasqueiras" which basically just grill everything over coals, you can choose wathever meat you want or fish and they grill it, its fast and cheap, freshly made delicious.. the traditional choice would be the piri piri chicken or pork ribs with a side of fries, they also have take away and thats what most portuguese take home to avoid cooking instead of fast food restaurants. It costs around 10-20 euros if you eat there with bread, fries, salad, coffee etc.., takeaway chicken goes for 6-8 euros for the single chicken usually. Im from the north so I cant recommend Lisbon spots personally, the few I know you can find on the many portuguese food videos around, it seems theres lots of youtubers doing it and they tend to choose pretty good spots with the ocasional trap.
Tasca!!! Maybe next time we come we will do a video only eating at tascas. We didn’t see a viel one but will keep our eyes open for them on our next visit! Thanks for the info and watching our video!
Lol Lisbon was so cool, we can’t wait to get back and explore other Portuguese cities. Although in a way, every city has at one time been a Portuguese city😂. Thanks a million for watching and commenting, it means a ton!
Wow that’s a great question. We don’t recall being charged a seating fee or dining in fee at any of the places but it could be that there is a service charge added. We just don’t recall, sorry

u need to come in the summer to eat the real grilled sardines can sardines are ok but way way low flavour compared with grilled ones
Wow! So are they seasonal during the summer? We were only there a short time and had so much more on our list but we will add grilled sardines to it. Our friends just went and we had them bring us back so much tinned fish and piri piri😂. Thanks for watching and commenting and giving a great tip!
Portugise quesadilla as you called, is actually Italian Piadina Romagnola from Emilia-Romagna, Italy. Sorry but I just cant hear you calling Torttila, come and eat it in Italy, we fill with fresh grilled vegetables, cheese and different salumi.
Amazing! We had no idea l and didn’t see these when we were in Italy. We will be back soon to look for them. We had some incredible focaccia sandwiches in Rome that we fell in love with!
Sorry to ruin the very beginning of this video, BUT La Piadina is an italian brand of traditional poor fast food, piadina. Which is italian. If it was a quesadilla they would have call the place “La quesadilla “. (And to be even more specific, La Piadina has been acquired by CVC which is a British investment company)
@HeresGoodTravel it would have been nice for you to at least acknowledge your ignorance and lack of knowledge and education about the food/location you showcased at the beginning of your video that was pointed out to you by @SpeakGerman, your response of "it was a cheap tasty snack" was dismissive and shows the reason why many Americans are not respected travelers in many areas of the world, you may have all the money but none of the class...🙄
When traveling to UK why not try Yorkshire same size as Holland and great food .UK is not just London. Whit y for fish and chips at the magpie or simular places Harrogate for Betty's afternoon tea no prebooking just que.York viking city steeped in history and lots of Harry Potter locations
In short, you ate everything you shouldn't have. Traditional Portuguese food is nothing like that. They didn't know what it really means to eat well in Portugal.
--------The Portuguese didnt whent to France to study cooking or pastry in the XIV, XV, XVI century, in fact it was the contrary at the time, food in France was a disgrace, the French court imported cooks from Spain and Italy, to improve the quality and to obtain new recipes, as the mayonnaises and croasaints, jams, and so on, the good that comes from this is that they create many cooking books with all of this, that are used thil today .Portugal as a complitely different and original tradition of food and pastries till today, also adapting from other countries.
Thank you so much for an interesting comment! We had no idea. We loved the food in Portugal and ate some delicious food in Spain as well. We haven’t done France yet. Maybe we will this winter.
Nice survey of snacks, but not true Portuguese food. It's pastel de nata.Pateis is the plural and it's not pronounced "pastis" Quesadillas are not Portuguese. Those do look like good bifanas; there are a lot that aren't so great. ALSO PLEASE TIP 10%!! Portuguese wages are awful and things are getting more expensive due to expats and tourists.
Lisbon was big disappointment when I visited Spain and at the end, Lisbon. Too long to explain, after Madrid, Seville, Granada and Barcelona there is nothing to compare, Spain wins. And all other European countries.
We can’t wait to see more of Portugal and more of Spain. Lisbon was insanely beautiful but since we went towards the end of our around the world trip we were a little burnt out. We will give it another chance though.
So ignirant and rude, ou are Italian or BRASILIAN, or both? Please stay away, take some education and never come back. We dint need more fricky woke alliens. Thank you so mutch!

@@HeresGoodTravel absolutely let's keep things affordable for everyone.
Wow, yummy food
Thanks so much Lisbon was amazing. We had a fantastic trip. Thank you for watching, and commenting!
The best piri piri and Bifana of the Europe😊🎉
Wish we had piri piri like that in San Diego!
The chinese or asian verion of those is because the portuguese kinda "discovered" those lands and had varios ports under their control, and the two cuisines kinda came together..for exaple, tempura has portugese origins
No way that’s crazy! We are headed to Japan can’t wait to see their interpretation of tempura! Thanks for helping us better understand Portugal!
O pastel de nata( original pastel de Belém) é português os chineses é que fizeram uma versão
We were curious about that. Thank you for the clarification and for watching.
Helow from London .
Thank you so much for watching! We love London! We are going to try to make it back this summer!
Its a " TASCA", that Litlle place for the bifanas, porco or viel 😮😅👍 piri-piri sauce👌🤭
Tasca!!! Maybe next time we come we will do a video only eating at tascas. We didn’t see a viel one but will keep our eyes open for them on our next visit! Thanks for the info and watching our video!
The hype is real...🤣
Lol Lisbon was so cool, we can’t wait to get back and explore other Portuguese cities. Although in a way, every city has at one time been a Portuguese city😂. Thanks a million for watching and commenting, it means a ton!
❤❤❤
Thanks so much!
When you eat in, do you get charged extra?
Wow that’s a great question. We don’t recall being charged a seating fee or dining in fee at any of the places but it could be that there is a service charge added. We just don’t recall, sorry
u need to come in the summer to eat the real grilled sardines can sardines are ok but way way low flavour compared with grilled ones
Wow! So are they seasonal during the summer? We were only there a short time and had so much more on our list but we will add grilled sardines to it. Our friends just went and we had them bring us back so much tinned fish and piri piri😂. Thanks for watching and commenting and giving a great tip!
I have to admit, the Chinese version of the tart tasted much better. I love portugal and their delicious cuisine ❤
So much good food in such a beautiful place we can’t wait to return!
TINY FORKS!!!!!
Honestly why do they even make full sized forks!
Os americanos vêm a Portugal comer sandes (sandwiches) e dizem que é portuguese food... não será american food ...um pouco melhor ?
It’s a budget food video. We like to support local small businesses that might not otherwise get the attention they deserve
It was a tasty cheap snack!
2 euro for water is really expensive
When traveling to UK why not try Yorkshire same size as Holland and great food .UK is not just London.
Whit y for fish and chips at the magpie or simular places Harrogate for Betty's afternoon tea no prebooking just que.York viking city steeped in history and lots of Harry Potter locations
Amazing! Thanks so much for the tip! We will hit it up o. Our next Uk adventure!
In short, you ate everything you shouldn't have. Traditional Portuguese food is nothing like that. They didn't know what it really means to eat well in Portugal.
What dishes would you suggest?
Seems to me they ate food they loved, traditional and otherwise. Make your own video if you’ve got something to recommend.
iam portuguise for 3 euros i buy a very good qualite wine not just a glass
At a restaurant or in the store? Our Airbnb host gave us a delicious bottle but we drank it all on the first night😂
👨🏼🍳👨🏼🍳👍🏻🌺🍄🌶️🫑
❤️🙌🙌🙌
Nice survey of snacks, but not true Portuguese food. It's pastel de nata.Pateis is the plural and it's not pronounced "pastis" Quesadillas are not Portuguese. Those do look like good bifanas; there are a lot that aren't so great. ALSO PLEASE TIP 10%!! Portuguese wages are awful and things are getting more expensive due to expats and tourists.
Thanks so much for the info! We will definitely be back to Portugal in the future. Thanks for commenting and watching!
2, 80€ not 280. 280 is more than a diner ( without wines ) at a luxury 5 stars Hotel. Don't frigten the people that think come here.
😂good catch! The most expensive of all time, our bad! I think Portugal has an amazing value to it and the quality you get is unmatched
I think Portuguese explorers brought the egg tart to China. Or maybe Portuguese immigrants in China.
Ohhh that makes so much sense!
Please don't go for a tortilla in Portugal. We've much better...
It was delicious though! Please let us know some of your favorites so we can check them out on our next Portugal trip!
That is Indian or Bangladesh 😅
Wait what was? Which place are you referring to?
Piadina is italian! It's not a tortilla it's a "piadina".
We learned this too late
As a portuguese, I recognize nothing from your video, apart from the egg tart.
We are planning to return to Portugal this summer. What should we eat?
salads@@HeresGoodTravel
You guys should not said cheap, you should say it’s economic……
Thank you we will change our verbiage so as not to discredit a good deal
Portuguese monks that studied in Paris invented the egg tarts ? Completely false and ridiculous
We read in a few different places that this was the case
What time of the year was this? Trying to plan a Honeymoon and wanting to know what the weather is like late September early October.
This was just after the new year in January. It was chilly with the costal breeze but not too bad. We’ve heard it gets really hot in the summer.
