Next time you visit Sao Miguel, you have to try the cozido prepared in the geysers in Furnas. It’s slowly cooked 6-7 hours in the holes and then time to devour it. My cousin would always prepare a whole big pot every time I would visit. If you go, I’ll ask if he can prepare for you.
We've heard from many people that cozido apparently is a big thing at the Azores, so that will definitely be a priority when we go! And hopefully soon! We'll keep your cousin in mind!
Great video. My wife and I have lived in Lisbon since Sept 2021, but I must admit that we have not been tempted to dive very deep into the Portuguese kitchen yet. Your video has definetly put an end to that cowardness and our journey into culinary Portugal starts today. Thanx for all the great food recomendations that made my mouth watering.

Wow that's action packed food tour. Love to see you are back in Lisbon doing your videos. My mouth is salivating just thinking about the food. Can't wait to go back to enjoy the country and food.
As a Portuguese I never realized how hard it would be to find Cozido à Portuguesa, being such a popular/traditional dish, but then I remembered 99.9% of times I ate it was at home. And the only time I ate it at a restaurant was in Açores because there's a popular spot where they cook it literally underground with volcanic heat. It's pretty much a homecooked meal for most nationals, I'd assume.
You two are danes living the portuguese dream. I'd say you now behave, act and ARE full portuguese. Amazing how you not only adapted but took to be so much of what makes a portuguese a portuguese. Amazing!

Wow, that's quite the feat, given that Porto has such a rich gastronomic tradition, and, honestly, quite well known: The bifanas in Conga, the cachorrinhos in Gazela, the pork knee's sandwiches of Cardoso, the Francesinhas of Café Santiago (and several other great places in Porto as well), the tripes in Restaurante da Avó Maria, the seafood in Casa do Pescador and all those great seafood restaurants in Matosinhos. I mean, how could you spend 6 months in Porto and not find out about Portuguese food?
Lisbon gathers all diversity of Portuguese cuisine, but to be honest, in Porto and throughout the northern region, the low and medium tascas or restaurants serve customers with more detail and quality. You can try/eat delicious food from north to south, but in touristic places like Algarve or in the main streets of the big citys, you should run out from tourist driven restaurants and keep it simple, eating where Portuguese eat!
Let me tell you that the way that you are eating sardines is the hardest because if you don't like spines you will get a lot doing like that. Very shortly what I do is to cut the head and from there try to split the meat from the central spine at the fish tail. If everything goes well, you will get like 2 parts but you will also need to removes spines and other stuff. Also it doesn't come perfectly everytime.
And you certainly would do it very well! You have a wonderful book, Cozinha Tradicional Portuguesa by Maria de Lurdes Modesto where you can find the basic tradicional recipes to cook many of this dishes. The rest will be your touch.
When I speak to people I describe Portuguese food as "honest". Really good ingredients, and no fuss. First time I had whole sea bass it came with cabbage and boiled potatoes, wonderful! Try the quiejos, especially the ones made with sheeps milk.

Pro tip for eating sardinhas: use your knife as support for your sardine, with the fish on the plate and gently smash the top (in this case the top would be the back of the sardinha) with your fork. The bones will separate from the meat and you just need to use your fork to take it out.

Great video, as always! Just a FYI cozido à portuguesa is different in each part of the country (for example, where I live we don't have rice, beans, and chickpeas in the cozido and we cook everything together in the same pot). It'd be so cool if you guys tried cozido in different part of Portugal and did like a compilation/ranking video :)
