If you love molotov, you have to try Farófias... it's similar to molotov but instead of caramel it is served with a eggy-lemony-cinnamony custard.
My recommended spot for this delicacy is a restaurant in Almeirim (rural portugal) the restaurant is called "O Forno"
While there try the local speciality "sopa da pedra" (literally translated stone soup) - a slightly spicy soup with lots of meats and "enchidos" (chorizo is an example of enchido, it's an tripe encased roll of meats and blood sausages). Another local product is "caralhota" a type of bread that is dense, good to dip on your "sopa da pedra".

    Very nice video!
Also, even though the video shows the Bacalhau in the grocery store as salted fish, for the benefit of the US viewers, Bacalhau is called Salt Codfish. Calling it just Cod would mean to an American (and maybe to people from other countries), that it is the fresh kind of cod, the one that is not pre-salted for long storage purposes.

    • @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal
      @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

Thank you for the clarification! Most (but no all) cod recipes in Portugal are prepared with salted fish, unlike in Spain, where we tend to use fresh cod. The interpretative center for cod in the centre of Lisbon is a wonderful place to get acquainted with the reasons for that choice. All the best!

@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal Thank you for your prompt response. I’m very familiar with bacalhau. I always order the Bacalhau dish that is made from the thick part, called lombo do bacalhau, which is its premium cut. Other recipes use small pieces of bacalhau, like Bacalhau à Bras, or Bacalhau com Natas, which are sourced from the lesser and more fibrous parts of the fish, closer to its tail. Also, it has to be of the Gadus Morhua vatiety - the real cod. Tipo 8/10 is my favorite. This means that only ten-to-twelve units come in a box of 50 kilos. It’s the biggest size of bacalhau available commercially. Larger Bacalhau is a rarity. Great video!

Toasted bread x 4 plates; 12 fresh oysters (no vinegar sauce or salt), one bottle of white wine (1€6, not bad), 2 stuffed crabs & 2 lobsters = 500€ including 10% tip. 😮The most expensive meal we’ve ever had while living 8 years in Portugal. Sie flüchten schon aus der Stadt !!! Ich würde diese Menschenmassen auch nicht ertragen !!!! 😢

Bolinho de bacalhau in Brazil, pastel de bacalhau in Portugal.

Tira-gostos doesn't exist. Not sure from where the guy took that idea but as portuguese I assure you there is no such thing!
Probably something used in Brazil but not in Portugal!
If this video is about Lisbon, then no-one would call "bolinho de bacalhau", the name is "pastel de bacalhau"! Bolinho is the name in the north and in Brazil.
Not sure why you went to O Trevo, because that is not a good restaurant. There are many good restaurants around, that is not one of them.
The couvert IS NOT PAID in Portugal, unless you order it. The restaurant can try to charge you, but it is illegal to do so. Only if they ask you if you want and you say yes, or if you order it directly, it can be charged.
Chicken piri-piri is not a portuguese dish. Nando's a south african restaurant popularized that dish, and people assume it is portuguese because they stole the national symbol of Portugal, but it is not portuguese by no means. You can find it in some places, the same way you find a pizza or a sushi!
That arroz de marisco looks awful. The best arroz de marisco you find in Ericeira area! Everything is super fresh and muc h cheaper. Also, the arroz is "descascado", which means it comes without shells and ready to eat.
Pasteis de nata and Pasteis de belem are clearly two different things. They look alike but are completelly different. We can say that pastel de nata is a mere copy of pastel de belem but tastes very different. Just because they look alike we don't go around saying it is the same because they are very different!
Pastelaria Alcoa is not a good option. That is what we call "pastries for display"....There are many good pastelarias, but they are not easy to spot for tourists and honestly, most don't even have an idea of what a good pastelaria is. In the Chiado area you have Sacolinha. That one is quite good, the pastries are real and taste good, unlike alcoa which look fake and are quite expensive.

I have been in most European countries but Portugal was complete disappointment! Compared to other countries people's hospitality is the worst, and trip was not worth it. In 3 restaurants I could not get bacalao because they did not go to the market that day?? In the center of Lisbon. Btw, your advice about restaurants in Madrid is complete miss, did you notify owners before getting there??
