Ty Tabor is one of the most criminally underrated guitar players of all time. He has carved out his own unique niche in music that is his alone. The tone, the grooves, the chops, the shreds, the unique chord progressions, the good old comfortableness, the blues base - all just absolutely perfectly blended.
And people talk more about lame guitar players like Joe Perry. This is just wrong.

    • @MechanicsAndCarpentry369

      I agree

    • @YouTubricant

Agree with you completely...up until the very end haha. If anything I think Joe Perry/Aerosmith have somehow become UNDERrated among classic rock guitar players and bands!

I would bet you got paid to say this. It is harder to hide bias than it was years ago. He is a hack who wrote a few good songs. In fact, the best Aerosmith guitar solo - by FAR - was on Last Child. Look up who wrote and played it.

    • @rubicon-oh9km

Joe Perry is "lame". You're truly showing your musical ignorance.

@@rubicon-oh9km Well, you sure proved me wrong. He is lame and he always was. Sure he wrote some good songs, but he is drastically overrated. Period. The old PR techniques are no longer working bro. Get over it.

I bought a "Gretchen" cassette for the very same reason. "Huh, that's a pretty wild cover"...
Bought "Out of the Silent Planet" one day later. Seriously, went back to the store the very next day. They are that good... If they had more than 2 albums out at the time, I would have bought them all. Well, as many as I could have afforded back then anyway. Instantly hooked. Hadn't heard anything like "Over My Head". Poor guys work so hard and the sound engineers are not giving them good sound. They are having to struggle like an amateur bar band. They deserve better. But it's exactly why they still use real amps on stage. You can't trust sound engineers to give you good proper monitoring even though most are demanding silent stages. That was always my problem with silent stages. Never get quality sound and most of the time never hear yourself or anyone else clearly. Glad these guys are still rocking out and killing it.

@@downboys Huh. Well, I've been listening to Kings X for about 35 years, and I am pretty sure he plays a 12 string bass on more than just a few songs. Gretchen Goes to Nebraska comes to mind.
I would conservatory estimate that at least half of King's X songs feature Dug playing a 12 string.
      Your move.

      @@gcarlson from a 12 string interview:
Can you list the songs you've played 12 on during your career that might not be as obvious as songs that feature it prominently?
"Out of the Silent Planet", "We Are Finding Who We Are", "Black Flag", "It's Love", "Complain", "Big Picture", "Lost in Germany", "Faith Hope Love", "Six Broken Soldiers", "Human Behavior", "Happy", "False Alarm", "Prisoner"
Also, you’re mistaking his 4 string for a 12 on a lot of the albums. He plays a 4 a lot on recordings but the tone is similar. Again, from the same interview:
Your 4-string sound is very identifiable. What do you think the 12-string does to your signature sound?
The 12 really sounds the same as my 4-strings tonally. I do use a chorus for the high end of the 12 sometimes. And sometimes heavy distortion that Monty Colvin (Galactic Cowboys) turned me on to. With my 12-string on the end of "It's Love" I kick in the distortion with the power chords with a chorus and it sounds like a Hammond B-3. Check it out.
He says no 12 string played at all on the Black Like Sunday album.
When you are writing, what is the main deciding factor in whether you use a 4 or 12-string on the track?
If I write the song on the 12.

4:09 watch Ty’s guitar. How’d he play with no strum? Like three times?

    • @fancykarlmarx
      @fancykarlmarx หลายเดือนก่อน

He’s playing through an amp with a ton of gain (distortion) and he’s playing in drop D which means he just has to lay his finger flat across the top two strings to play a power cord and when you do that and have a ton of gain you can force the strings down with your left hand just a tad harder and you don’t need to strum. He only does it a little bit. It’s def him playing, not a recording.
