Yeah we had them in our back yard in oklahoma. It was the coolest thing ever. When several of them are perched around on different trees and exchanging calls on a dark night it makes you glad to be alive.
It's so amazing, I have two different Broods... They are so majestic, And very curious the little fledglings come down and drink out of my dog's water bowl when I'm out here so I gave em a kiddy pool, a platform I feed them off and I'm so obsessed that I'm actually building two boxes for the end of September so they have places to nest
Oh yes, in Arkansas, early in the morning…. before dawn, I’ve heard chorus’s of them calling out echoing throughout the mountains…… early morning turkey hunting trips. Gods creation is so great !
Very well said.In my opinion they are the owls with the most range of different calls of all owls. They have a beautiful variety and I cannot get enough of their calls. I use this video to bring them to the back of my house and from my back porch I enjoy them gathering around on trees in my farm and start the calls repeating the same sounds they hear on this video. I already thanked the people that posted this video because I am atracting them every time I want to see them up close.
I play this on a Bluetooth speaker outside right after dark falls. Owls come flying in to figure out who the new resident is. They land in a big pine tree right outside my front door and stare at me. This recording has been such a source of joy for me. Thank you so much for posting it 🌹
I got a massive Barred owl living outside my house. Homie started going off with this shit at like 3 am when i was letting out the dogs, thought I was gonna have to fight some Jackal Demon in the middle of the night wearing a bath robe
I volunteered at a wildlife center years ago and there was a barred owl there named " Otis" he had a wing amputated so he was there being rehabilitated and he was my most favorite animal there. He was so sweet. I remember him making noises from his room. Last I knew they moved him to an owl sanctuary with other owls so he wouldn't be lonely.
I told my husband like 100 times I kept hearing a strange animal noise and tonight he FINALLY was outside when it happened. So happy to find out what it is finally. What an awesome, beautiful creature . Even tho it scared the pee out of me at first.
Some years ago I was at a quarry in the middle of the night and heard this sound. It was so haunting and beautiful. I was trying to figure out what kind of bird it was. I can't remember who I asked to help me figure it out, but I described to them the sound of one of those impact wrenches auto shops used to remove lug nuts from a car tire. At the time that's what it sounded like. This particular bird. The person immediately knew I was talking about a barred owl. I'll never forget that amazing sound in the distance on a warm summer night
I hear barred owls almost every night down here in FL. Such beautiful creatures. I used to bowfish at night and always had at least one curious barred owl (it might have been the same one, who knows) who would land on a pylon on the dock and just watch me. I remember cleaning a fish late one night when I felt this sudden gust of wind behind my neck, looked over, and about 5' away there was a barred owl perched upon a pylon just observing me. The amount of wind their wings had pushed was crazy to me because I heard absolutely nothing. If I didn't feel that short gust I would have never known it was there.
0:47 The bird that photobombed this owl’s picture was later found dead that night with talon marks all over him. The owl was questioned but no proof was found that she was the murderer.
We have had Barred owls for many years. Here in central Minnesota they are like old friends stopping by for a chat. Our kids love calling up to 7 of them into our trees. They only call when it is calm and peaceful in the woods. It makes me feel safe. I feel sorry for city folk who only have street noise to fall asleep to.
I had heard these owls in the late evening in the woods behind our home in Maryland, but never could see any. I played this through a Bluetooth speaker on our deck and within 5 minutes we saw 2 beautiful and BIG barred owls fly over, then perch on a limb 40 feet above. Both were hooting back! It was so cool.
Your video is so important to me. I play it and the owls come straight to my house. Thank you so much. I play and pause and listen for responses. It is so enjoyable.
i was paranoid hearing noises outside and literally locked my door as SOON as i heard this pff, didn’t make it better. this is the only thing i can find similar to what i was hearing, very distinct and only one hoo’s in brief periods so i thought it was something mimicking an owl tbh

For you city dwellers who recently moved to a heavily forested area, just wait until you hear your first fox call. They sound like someone being murdered. During the rut if you get too close to the tree line the bucks will snort/grunt at you. The first time it happened to me I jumped like 5 feet sideways. And then there's the great blue heron that sounds like a prehistoric man eating lizard.
My daughter in law got to hear the vixen scream right outside our window. My son went outside and the fox was sitting in front of my concrete German Shepherd statue. They make an unbelievable noise.
I have a barred owl near my house that always makes the very first sound. Never any of the others always trills his hoot and it’s relaxing to hear all the time
I live in Savannah GA, I just love listening to these amazing owls. Tonight I heard their territorial sounds for the first time. Man! Someone was upset, lol. It's so soothing for me to hear them calling at night. So glad that they are surviving near my home.
Yep, wife and I have 4 we've tracked on our property so far this year. Using a drone to map and GPS tag their territories and potential nesting sites. Gonna make for some awesome pictures once the breeding season starts in earnest
@jeanicebarnett4130, I was staying with my sister in Allenhurst, Georgia, the first time in over a year & a half ago, & I called my dad to ask him if we had any wild monkeys in Georgia lol!
I have been listening to these at night in the woods behind our house for years and never actually saw one. Then yesterday this big old thing went chasing another big old thing past our treehouse at twilight. It was huge. I went to the Sibley guide to determine which is the biggest owls in our area (southern Delaware), and the Barred Owl it is. How magnificent. Thanks for the recordings!
We live in the woods in Eastern Kentucky and our house is surrounded by these. I love to listen to them have conversations from one side of the holler to the other.
The great horned owls are about the only threat to the barred owls, so they’re probably not having a very pleasant conversation. Hopefully there’s enough food around for them to co-exist. I would think that the great horned owls would prefer easier prey if available, but I don’t know that to be true. Maybe they have huge egos & prefer a challenge so they can show how bad-ass they are. Or maybe to protect their young… They should give peace a chance, but I wouldn’t trust it! Lol!
Was once sleeping outside in a hammock and heard a very loud wailing followed by one of these calls. I was pretty sure it must be an owl but it didn’t make it any less frightening in the moment
I just had that happen to me where I heard a long sound that sounded like screaming or cheering and then followed by what I can best describe as "regular owl sounds", so i think this is what I heard?
I glad I found this because I used to hear this at night back upstate in New York and never knew what owl it was. It was calming to hear for the two years the owl was around ❤
Heard one tonight for the first time. At first I was like is that a dog howling. Then I realized it’s gotta be an owl. Which lead me here. Thanks for the video. Hopefully I can see the guy or gal making these beautiful sounds one day.
I just went out to change the light bulb and heard this strange call. Been here 20 years first time I've heard one. Sounded huge. Must be in big old oak tree.
I love this!! I live in the country and have several Barred Owls 🦉 living in the surrounding woods. They hoot it up daily, starting as early as 4 pm in cooler months, and around midnight in the summer. They call back and forth to each other with one saying. HOO HOO , HOO HOO, AHHHHH. I have only seen that Owl once, but it was a true blessing; so beautiful and majestic. Thank you for sharing. ❤🦉❤
I just heard the sounds at night and thought it was coyotes, but then I heard the sound move and followed it with my eyes and saw two of these beautiful birds fly over me. So thankful I was able to see them.
Plano, TX here! We have two or three in the neighborhood, and they hunt in the creek behind our home. They are so majestic, and much bigger than I thought, seeing one up close! (One landed on my fence to come check out the "commotion" when I played this on my back porch at around 430am).
@@parsleypalace3272 So I dont think its mating season anymore cuz i only hear him a couple months out of the years. But if you really want to see him up close. Make sure there's no big flock of crows around (they are a-holes that pick on owdles) and play the owl calls out of a speaker into your woods. He will be right next to your window within 30 minutes. Also be inside. Owls are just slower hawks and will F* you up . Dont do it more than once or twice tho it screws with their head and they actually might think another owl has moved into their territory and will leave after that.
I hear the Barred owl in the early morning hours frequently. This morning it was so close I think it must have been right outside our bedroom perched on a nearby tree in the forest. I even heard this call in the middle of the day one time and managed to record it. Magnificent. Haven’t seen them, just hear them. Hope to be able to see one some day.
It's so comforting to hear our barred owl call at night here in central Massachusetts. One night my wife and I were outside and the bird swooped over our heads, it was magical.
Just moved to a new place. Saw an owl flying between the trees just at dark. Got an idea. Searched the net, found this vid, and i can call them down to the fence, sometimes to ground in the back yard. These animals are magnificent. If you do not see them, you never know they are there. The female landed on the fence the other night and she is awesome. These guys rule the night. Ultimate predators. I got one in the tree right now. He is calling. It makes me realize how small i am in the big picture. Humans can not create this. What else is there? Glad to be alive!
I use this clip too! Last year, during the day a female sat on branch of neighbor's tree, and watched me work in my gardens. She would occasionally give me suggestions if I asked. Oh my! There is one right above me.
We live on a 40 called Barred Hollow. Saw the comment from the guy who hooked it to a Bluetooth speaker, and had the same result. Had five or six in the trees near the cabin, answering this recording. What a hoot!
Plus you’re commenting on the wrong video I think this is an owls fighting video buddy not a cooking video make sure you pay attention to which you’re clicking on next time okay
I hear them often here at home. Which I think is awesome as I live in a condo in a rural town of about 38K population. Usually hear them on calm well lit nights talking to each other. Absolutely love being serenaded to sleep by my feathered friends.. :-)
Fun fact... If you wanna attract owls, just set up a bird feeder. The seed that falls on the ground will attract field mice/voles which will attract owls.
They are in my back yard , they sing every once in a while . I saw some babies perched in a tree awhile back, in southwest missouri. I like to hear them at night.
I had a pair of barred owls that nested in my yard when I lived back home in Florida. I had a spot light on a pole in my yard so I could garden at night when it was cooler. They used to come visit me with on on my roof and tge otger landing on the ground some distance away. How I miss those days.
Sitting on my second story deck surrounded by these guys. I looked up this call here on TH-cam and played it to them. Before I knew it they were really close calling back at me. Too, too cool in Tulsa.
Moved to NC last year from NY. Lol I hear these a lot here! My hair stood straight up the first time I heard this from the woods across the road. I never heard them in NY. I felt so silly.
I would like to hear a Barred Owl for real. I don't think they're in California. They do have a rather Haunting call. THANKS FOR SHARING! R.K. 4/20/2022.
THANK you! A month ago I'd heard a single call that carried a quality of the Barred's and everywhere I looked to i.d. it just had the one common call. I'd only ever heard Great Horned calling in this location around that time of year. I was beginning to think I'd lost my mind!
There's a few barred owls that live on my block, and they call out to each other for hours at a time in the middle of the night. First time I heard one of their calls, I thought it was either an injured man or dog, crying out in pain right outside my window. Absolutely scared me shitless.
I too just came in from letting the dog out 3am laid down and right out my window was this sound that frightened me something awful. All I could do was wish my 90 yr old Daddy was still here with me to tell me what the heck I was hearing, not just from his life experiences but from Wild Kingdom and Animal Planet..so thank you for the video now I know what the heck it was because now it's gone! I hope to hear it again some night this time I won't be afraid.
We sit on our back porch at night and call them in with this. Two of them sit on a tree nearby and watch us while several more gather in the woods around us and talk away. It's a fun way to spend a relaxing evening.
Are you able to call them in year round? I was trying to find out when the best time would be, and it said December and January. It used to sound like a jungle full of monkeys! But I haven't heard one in a very long time. Years. I'm going to use these videos and try to call some in. I also read they prefer pine trees.
It’s a full moon and these sounds similar but I just dead azz heard a Sasquatch. I’m seriously anxious lol, cause we have Bigfoot here in our valley. Peeing my pants right now.
I got to listen to two of these converse from to sides of the woods we were camping in. Dead of night, just sitting at the campfire on the bank of a little manmade lake, you can't see anything past the circle of light from the fire, and you hear this. I wish I could have gone again this year!
Great video, thanks. The Barred Owl is an amazing creature. They make some strange and spooky sounds. I had one wake me up in the middle of the night while camping deep in the woods of central Maine, sleeping under the stars in a hammock. It was right above me making loud demonic sounds. I was so terrified, I figured my life was over and so I fell back to sleep. Found out much later that it was a barred owl that terrorized me.
Playing this vid now over my bluetooth speakers. Have brought some within 20 yards in the past. Hope to hear and see some tonite here in East Central IN
Right now I can hear one of these doing that song that they do (like in the first clip). Kinda freaky actually. It echoes through the woods and makes it sound like a monster with a megaphone.
When I first heard these in NE Florida it was very late at night and at fairly close range. Not familiar with these owls my first thought the source sounded like a monkey. I’ve heard them multiple times since and was prompted to search for a logical source, discovering these birds. Beautiful bird, although that is an unusual call.
Yeah we had them in our back yard in oklahoma. It was the coolest thing ever. When several of them are perched around on different trees and exchanging calls on a dark night it makes you glad to be alive.

A way to remember...."who cooks for you, who cooks for youuuuuuuu." (farmers almanac)
My dad taught me that as a kid out hunting.
❤️
Thats cool lol
My mom sometimes my Grammy why
Plus you’re commenting on the wrong video I think this is an owls fighting video buddy not a cooking video make sure you pay attention to which you’re clicking on next time okay
Every year this calls back my owl 💜🦉 He is literally outside my window

Such beautiful owls I love love love owl's. The sounds they make are so awesome 🦉🦉🦉🦉🦉🦉🦉🦉🦉🦉❤️
Definitely I love owls 🦉 it is a privilege to hear barred pwls
Who cooks for you? Who cooks for you all? That's what their call sounds like. This is one of my favorite birds and most definitely my favorite owl.
Great photos, and love those sounds! It makes me happy to hear barred owls hooting outside on the rare occasion I can.
I hear them often here at home. Which I think is awesome as I live in a condo in a rural town of about 38K population. Usually hear them on calm well lit nights talking to each other. Absolutely love being serenaded to sleep by my feathered friends.. :-)
I love this, it brings back childhood memories!
0:56 These are the very sounds I heard in my yard recently. Thank you for posting this.
This video is quite a hoot! Thanks!
Fun fact... If you wanna attract owls, just set up a bird feeder. The seed that falls on the ground will attract field mice/voles which will attract owls.
They are in my back yard , they sing every once in a while . I saw some babies perched in a tree awhile back, in southwest missouri. I like to hear them at night.
This video played over an iPad will call them in ...it’s amazing
We brought in 7-8 last night at one time on outdoor speakers. Freaking awesome
This is so beyond cool. Love it!!! Thank you for sharing.
My dog doesn’t know what to think love these thank you !
So beautiful thank you folks ❤💖♥💜💕8
The audio is so clear and crisp thanks for this video I am using it to attracted a barred family to the nesting box I built for them
Using this call right now with 6 owls flying around my camp 😍
I have one in my backyard that I hear almost every night.... beautiful! Thanks for the video.
R.K. 4/20/2022.
Nice collection of vocalizations!!Especially the courtship duet.
Listening to 4 Barred Owls hoot at each other is something special
We currently have 6 on our property! They have been hunting about an hour before sundown and look really cool flying.
I played this for my blind daughter and she was giggling at the owl call.
I hear from them in the morning at first I was afraid it was a coyote 😂, so glad I looked it up!
We sit on our back porch at night and call them in with this. Two of them sit on a tree nearby and watch us while several more gather in the woods around us and talk away. It's a fun way to spend a relaxing evening.
I play this on our outdoor speaker when the squirrels are trying to get in the bird feeder and they scurry away! 😂
I heard one of these a few mins ago! I went online to try to find which owl it was. It sounded like 0:09
I use these sounds to call in owls onto the railing my deck. It is really cool and my kids love seeing them.
I use this to attract the owls all the time. Super cool.
Are you able to call them in year round? I was trying to find out when the best time would be, and it said December and January. It used to sound like a jungle full of monkeys! But I haven't heard one in a very long time. Years. I'm going to use these videos and try to call some in. I also read they prefer pine trees.
@Rocco B. in the missouri country, but you can do it anywhere
This video is so cool!! It brings in the owls. So fun to watch!!
they’re so scary when you have anxiety , especially when they start to make monkey sounds ..
It’s a full moon and these sounds similar but I just dead azz heard a Sasquatch. I’m seriously anxious lol, cause we have Bigfoot here in our valley. Peeing my pants right now.
there’s one right out my window so i started having a panic attack cuz i didn’t know what it was 😭😭
I have anxiety and they’re not in the least bit scary, they’re super cool
@@3a.m.284 once i found out what it was i wasn’t scared i was just a bit annoyed cuz it was right out my window
I relate to this on a personal level.
Hope to hear and see some tonite here in East Central IN
I hear these ALL THE TIME.
Some great looking photos...nicely captured sounds as well...🦉
Photos are a friends and sounds are from Audubon.org
I was actually able to call in two of these owls with these sounds coolest thing I have ever experienced
Right now I can hear one of these doing that song that they do (like in the first clip). Kinda freaky actually. It echoes through the woods and makes it sound like a monster with a megaphone.
Beautiful and soothing
When I first heard these in NE Florida it was very late at night and at fairly close range. Not familiar with these owls my first thought the source sounded like a monkey. I’ve heard them multiple times since and was prompted to search for a logical source, discovering these birds. Beautiful bird, although that is an unusual call.
I used this to get them to come closer to the house they are beautiful birds
I was watching this at oir local boat ramp and the owls in the trees around me went nuts. Lol
