I used to play native American flute, one night l was out playing and at least half a dozen screech owls showed up in the trees around me. I couldn't tell if they were agitated or just happy to talk to me. It was a great experience.
I sit quietly in the woods and can count on at least one owl just sitting across from me, just observing. They are so curious they can't help it. Also something spiritual about having owls join you. Great Horned owl is my spirit animal but they all seem to locate me. Always incredible.
I call in Barred Owls once in awhile with my bluetooth speaker, its spring here in New Hampshire and the owls have been quite active. Last Saturday I tried to call them in and got quite the surprise when 7 or 8 all swarmed where I was by the firepit. They were all around me with a few very close watching me and they were all hollering loudly, it was an awesome experience and scary at the same time with them swooping over my head trying to find the source of the calls, I’ll definitely have to record them next time…👍
I went out to walk dogs The squirrels were screaming in all directions As we walked an owl ? Barn or horned flew over my head then away The squirrels went silent
Normal feeling when you hear another individual of your specie call in your territory for hours. This barred owl was hella confused and probably terrifed at the idea of having to tussle with another barred owl, or it was chasing a non-existing mate. Either way, it's pretty annoying shit. Totally understand why the Barred Owl would attack the closest source of the sound that's been taking all its energy and time.
I love how barred owls are so active during the day. Most owls sneak around at night and you just don’t see them. So many more chances of seeing and interacting with the barred owl since they’re often awake at the same time we were! 🦉
Made the mistake of imitating their call one night. I got an unexpected answer from three of them at once. Two hooted back but the third one made noises like cackling lunatic laughing and hooting at the same time. It was the craziest thing i have ever heard. I quickly ducked inside because it sounded like it was mad.
@@gasmaskman2769 I've heard them doing a weird creaky door hinge sound at my cats. When I hear that sound and my cats are inside I know a predator is around. Usually a neighbors cat
I hear them at dusk and they do that dooky noise and my cat dances around and makes tittering noises. The barred owls around my house are spectacular and regal.
I’m afraid to call the pair here- will that make them think they have rivals? I’m afraid they’d leave after all these years. I hear them EVERY night -clockwork. SO vocal!! I love it!! Great vid- so cool to finally see them calling and not just hear !
I've played their calls outside on my porch and within minutes I hear one or two in the trees! I hear them a lot in the morning while getting ready for work.

I do this with my voice. No need for a speaker. Im just blessed to be able to mock all kinds of animal sounds. The owl is by far my favorite! Great video!
I'm visiting my fiance up in Charlotte and I came outside for a smoke just now it's about 20 after midnight. And I heard a barred owl, and I thought I heard one answering in the distance I played this video both of them came and landed on top of the car in the driveway staring at me. Then when I turned on my video to record them the light scared them away but very cool thanks for the vid
It's thinking, that's a strange looking owl. Poor guy so confused probably. Still neat to see them. Saw one on my fence not too long ago, just hanging out.
I once sat down outside my house, played owl noises through a speaker. No owl or anything showed up, then 30 minutes of owl noises playing a pigeon turned up. He just sat there then flew away. So I gave up. There are normally lots of owls around my suburb
I have lots of Barred Owls on my Wisconsin property. I have a bow hunting stand near some hollow trees. I often am serenaded at dusk by these beautiful birds. Its really awesome when theres several calling at once. I wish i knew what they are saying. Most likly its something negative about the intruder in there forest. Its music to my ears!!!
yeah that'd be a fucking great idea! Good shit dude, let's tell everybody they can literally draw an owl from it's normal routine and spend hours messing around with it for their own enjoyment!! :D Who needs energy right ? All animals can waste their time chasing a ghost and wasting vital energy!! You should also tell them to use this strategy in the spring!! That way you can stop them from feeding their young and have a HECK OF A BLAST :D !!!!
They have been here last couple of years a bit. 2 nights ago right in the back. I heard them in the house and sure enough right behind our fence. I have a recording and will try tonight…🦉strange sounds. Thanks
