I have built up such a tolerance that now I have to take 5 mg at once sometimes to fall asleep. So just recently I was trying to wean myself off of it and start taking Ambien. And it didn’t work for a little bit I was down to just taking one Xanax and Ambien. It’s weird I don’t know what else to do

I did not know that taking Melatonin regularly will shut down my body from making it naturally. So, if i stop taking it, will my body start back up producing it again? Will it ever go back to the levels i need?
Definitely does go back to normal if you stop taking it.. don't take sleeping pills. It made me sleep walk, it's scary stuff! just take chamomile tea or a cup of warm milk and get used to sleeping normally.
My neurologist prescribed me Ativan after a back injury 15 years ago. I’ve been trying to stop 🛑 for 2 years. I had seizures when I tried to stop. It has been hell. I wish I would have NEVER taken Ativan for restless leg syndrome & to sleep. It is a trap!
That's an addictive drug, it's not supposed to be used for sleep, best to go to a proper detox. I was addicted to Valium decades ago, very nasty withdrawal.
Some drugs you need to go into the hospital to get off of so they can monitor you. I would talk with your doctor about an inpatient program. Its crappy, but its the safest way to detox.

After getting off of an addiction to Ambien, my doctor started me on a drug called Trazodone. It's actually an old antidepressant but sleep is an off-label use. It's worked well for me. It's a longer-acting drug and takes a while to kick in but it's non-addictive and has worked for me for the past 7 years.
I have had Insomnia since Childhood!! Nothing ever helped much until Ambient (of course, working nights as an RN for 30 yrs didn't help either!) Recent studies I have read re Amien point to NO problems, even in the 80's, if used ONLY for sleep. But now, due to all the 'Bad Press' the past few years, Many doctors will No Longer prescribe the ONLY thing that has EVER given me a Good Nights' Sleep!!
I have had insomnia since a child also. I have been a Flight Attendant for 34 years so a normal sleep schedule is unattainable!!! Ambien has been my Godsend!!!!
@@Ohmsstew65 I use the regular release tabs and break them apart, and take about 1/2 to go to sleep, and if I wake up another 1/3 to go back to sleep. I don't like the extended releases. What do you all take?
I was taking Melatonin and it would put me to sleep right away..... However I would have such vivid electric dreams I would wake up with a jolt but happy to realize it was only a dream. But then I could not go back to sleep all night long. I no longer take anything for sleep..
Zopiclone is a good one, they used to say it wasn't addictive, but it is habit forming, take half of a 7.5mg. But every sleeping pill I've ever used, has a pretty bad hangover, and they get worse as you get older, you'll feel it most of the day. Oregano oil can help you sleep, but it has a hangover, the same with Melatonin. Tryptophan is another amino acid that can help sleep, but if you're an insomniac, the pills are the only guaranteed way to sleep.
When I was prescribed it, zopiclone was wonderful but I was sensible and used 3.75mg every second night and usually after my first attempt of sleep at around 2am. That way I got 5 or 6 hours good sleep every second night and could function properly during the day. Doc told me I was and addict and some other negative opinionated stuff and took me off it and now I am rarely safe to drive the car.
I had trouble falling and staying asleep as a child. As an adult it is horrible. Ambien was a miracle for me. Luckily, I. never had strange behaviors. I think some doctors start people on 10 mg and should start them on 5 mg. was able to to take 5mg for 5 years before I had to increase it to 10mg. I also believe some people take their Ambien with a glass of wine. Big mistake!
Physical exercise & meditation helped me a lot. Drugs only made it worse. Most of the doctors don't take a holistic approach to your issues and just put you on drugs due to limited time, limited training, limited knowledge. Traditional medicine really needs a revamp and I'm sure there will always be a lot of resistance from drug makers, the more problems we have, the more money they make.
That remark about Roseanne Barr was not fair or accurate. Yes, you can say things you are totally unaware of on Ambian. It has really messed up some people. She had a long history of depression as well. Just assuming she is racist and "rightfully" fired from her show is ludicrous. Give her a break guys. Geeze. Maybe you should interview her first and not accept what the media says about her. Other than that I love you guys. Thank you.
I was prescribed Ambien 5 mg for 30 days because I was having trouble breathing through my nose and it was causing sleep problems. I took it for about 10 days and it worked phenomenally well. I've never waken up feeling so rested and alert at the same time. I have read about horror stories but I suspect that in many cases, there is more to the story than is being provided. Obviously some people have difficult reactions and maybe some people get addicted but to me it's pretty hard to imagine how anyone who takes Ambien as directed becomes addicted (as in, seeking it out for recreational purposes). I can see that if you have chronic insomnia, you may become dependent on it because you need it to go to sleep. But then what's the alternative? Not sleeping?
What chemical is released in your brain when you take Ambien? What is that light, blissful state that you experience a minute or two before you drift off to sleep? That feeling you experience where all resistance in your muscles and body is released, right before you fall asleep? Is that Dopamine? Or Seratonin? Or Melatonin? Or Oxytocin? Or??
The active drug in Ambien is called Zolpidem. It a a GABA a agonist (activator). GABA is the inhibitory neurotransmitter. It slows the conduction of neurotransmission. Alcohol primarily works on the same receptor by making the receptor more sensitive to GABA. The sleepiness or calmness is similar to alcohol but is different
My husband was in kidney failure and he was prescribed Ambien. The first and only time he took it he was sleep walking cracking eggs on the stove in the middle of the night. Woke up and didn't know he was asleep and started asking him why was he doing what he was doing which he kept denying. Looked into his eyes and knew then he was sleeping and luckily he allowed me to walk him to his bed without fighting me. It was a scary experience and an exhausting one since I was on Dialysis myself
I am a sufferer of CPTSD due to a narcissistic father who physically , verbally and psychologically abused me and my brother from 2 months old to 18 . Couldn’t escape. I’ve lived with panic and fear for 64 years. I’ve never taken narcotics and stopped alcohol a long time ago . I just couldn’t sleep. I’d drop off then wake up suddenly after 2 hours with anxiety. The only answer was sleeping tablets. I’ve tried so many times to sleep without pills but can’t. My HPA axis is screwed up from early child development.
With Ambien I just take and go straight to bed no matter what even if it takes awhile or I do dumb stuff. I been on sleep meds since I was 4 years old and Clonidine worked for most of my life then eventually it didn't and I would spent 3-4 hours every night trying to go to bed no matter what till I eventually got put on Ambien. Its weird it doesn't really make me tired just fall asleep when I close my eyes faster. Like 20-40 minutes vs 3-4 hours. I started and been on 10MG for around 4 years now and for me it works about the same when I first got it and I take the same dosage every night. I have done some dumb stuff on it though but basically only buying dumb stuff on amazon I would never normally buy or sitting there imagining these impossible scenarios its so weird.
Eat light in the evening remove don't eat or drink any stimulatuon products that give you energy at least 4 hours before bed. Exercise to use up unused energy.
My therapist said not to have caffiene after 12 PM because its half-life is between 1.5 to 9 hours. I guess the length of time depends on your tolerance to caffiene? Not sure. :)
Medicine of any kind do not give everyone the same reaction. Everyone’s mind and body are different. Someone can react great to a medication . While someone taking the same medication can react not only different but horrible.
I would never advocate for any drug, however, all doctors should tell you not to do anything after taking ambien. You should be in bed, lying down, ready to sleep. I’ve never once done anything crazy when I wake up at night to use the restroom or anything else after taking Ambien. Only thing I’d advise against is browsing the Internet shortly after you take Ambien as you may accidentally buy something and forget you did so until you’re scrolling through your email and see an order confirmation the next day! Again, just don’t even browse the Internet after taking it. Also, don’t take it more than 5x a week. That’s what my dr told me. Just take when absolutely necessary... and stay offline, and in bed right after taking it...and it’s just fine for me.
I couldn’t sleep one night then anxiety it would happen again caused it to and it snowballed into a sleep crisis. Acupuncture is what’s rewiring my brain out of this anxiety.
Do these medication’s help if you go to sleep with someone who snores like a water buffalo? Going on vacation next year for two weeks and I can’t imagine the hell of sleeping with a snorer and not getting enough sleep.
It definitely helps for anxiety but I didn’t really notice the effects until a month later. I think it’s different for everyone but I would have a hard time sleeping when I’m stress so my thoughts would keep running. It really helped me not think so much and this I was able to let me sleep more soundly and wake up feeling more energized.

This video is awesome! I have been prescribed Ambien for about 11 years, and I stopped only when I found out I was pregnant, so I was off of it for almost a year in the past decade. Once I stopped nursing after a couple months, I started taking Ambien again. It’s wonderful, and the only medication that didn’t make me drowsy the next morning. Even Unisom and Benadryl made me feel hungover the next day. I can’t say enough about Ambien. It was a life-saver through college and after. But I did develop a tolerance and now I can only take it a few times a month or it doesn’t work, unfortunately. I have tried zopiclone, and it’s less effective, but works. It allows me to sleep, but the metallic taste is gross. I’m about to try zaleplon. Hoping to get some info from you guys! Does it cause the same mild hallucinations as Ambien? I like them, but I MUST be in bed, or I start eating without any memory the next morning. 🤦♀️
I’ve never had it prescribed but I love getting high off that stuff it knocks me out hard. I’m prescribed belsomra rn it does nothing along with the other 10+ sleeping pills I’ve been prescribed but my dr doesn’t want me to get the warm fuzzy feeling off pills

Ive had an insomnia battle for 30 years, one thing rarely mentioned is hormone levels. 50% more women suffer from insomnia than men. At one point my Dr. took away my sleep meds and said I had built up too much of a tolerance, I went to my OBGYN by coincedence the next day and he tested my hormone levels and they were way out f whack, we got them reset and in two days the sleep meds worked again. The original beginning of my sleep problems were after having two babies, and my hormones were off, looking back if I would have realized the correlation I may have never started needing sleep meds. Now I have been dependent on low dose Z drug for over half of my life and am scared to try to detox.
Wow. You are giving me hope. I’ll ask my doctor to check out my hormones. I don’t know if I will have that much luck only because I do have hypothyroid which is something hormonal and I get my blood tested every six weeks. So I would think that when they do those blood test they check my hormones. But it’s worth a try to ask. Would you mind elaborating on which hormones we’re not working right?

@@BobandBrad Thanks. It mostly only happens when I am anxious about something. Sometimes I don’t realize I am anxious until I can’t fall into sleep. I also listen to sleep meditations every night. My BF has adhd and smoking weed helps him sleep too. I prefer edibles. Side note though, I read online the other day that some doctors have people take their stimulant medication to go to bed and in the morning. I guess for some people it helps them sleep great.
I did my own research at the university on this topic, and apparently marijuana will make you fall asleep, but it will diminish your quality of sleep. Sleep occurs in cycles and there are 2 states in which you're in when you're asleep: dream-sleep and deep-sleep. You need a perfect balance of each to get a good sleep. Marijuana and alcohol, however, put you into a state of deep-sleep for too long and can cause you to wake up when deep-sleep is over. Essentially, marijuana and alcohol disrupt the cycle, which can leave you feel tired the next day. Just throwing that out there in case it's something you might want to consider/look into yourself. :)
@@tamarad4146 Ive definitely considered the downsides to weed, especially in my boyfriends case. I think there is something wrong in general with my bfs sleep cycles. He needs to do a sleep study.
@LesleyLesley It was prescribed to me for restless leg syndrome & to sleep. It is awful.

Gosh!

Tryptophan is good for chronic insomnia but causes headaches.
No one even suggests tryptophan anymore and it would do zero for anyone with true, chronic insomnia.
What about valerian root capsules? I use them regularly and find them very helpful. Thanks
Never worked for me, nor any other herbal remedy.

I also feel very rested and ready for the day when I use it.
And you made a very good point!
Me too.
Your definition of addiction is incorrect.
Good question!
It connects to the gaba receptors I think. It's called a hypnotic. It works so well for me, such great sleep and energy the next day
Great video! God bless you guys.

Exactly, it's different for everybody

I even doubled the dosage before I went to sleep to see if I could pain free. Nope. It's totally useless now and I stopped taking it. Wow, those first few weeks on it were amazing. I thanked by spine physician. The body is funny. It adjusts to everything. If you are meant to have back pain it will do whatever it takes to continue ruining your life.
Klonopin has always scared me.
Ambien was just prescribed for me.
Meditating before sleep works for me
It helps me too, sometimes. A full body scan can get so much off your mind.
??
Could you post the studies which show, that melatonin production is reduced after taking it long time?
The problem with Ambien is for some people the 10 mg or 5 mg pill is too much. I split a 5 mg, or even do 1/4 of a pill so that I'm taking about 2 mg, and I don't have any problems. I also dissolve it under my tongue so it works better. Never sleepwalked or did anything weird. Haven't built a tolerance, either.
I need 50mg
Sadly I’ve built a tolerance to 10 mg. Some nights it works, some times it doesn’t. 😢
@@kiddkuruper night? Is your prescription 5 tablets per night?
@@sl4983 no it was 20 but it wasn’t working so I quit and started using the gateway hemi sync technology from the Monroe institute
So a patient who has continual insomnia, finds a medicine that works for them perfectly with ZERO side effects, shouldn't continue to use it because of an arbitrary guideline?? What are they supposed to do, experiment with every other medication out there only to come back to the one they said was working for them in the first place??
I have tried all meds nonbenzo...I might have no choice to go that road I have tried hypnosis therapy all trying to solve my sleep I am 67 yrs old which is worst insomia or benzo At this stage of my life gotta take the benzo What other choice do I have
Im getting off ambien for the 4th or 5th time now. I take it on and off for 10 days or so. It's only been around that 10 day mark and 10mg ambien already doesnt work anymore
Same here...i dont know what else to take....i had to take 15 mg yesterday
Do you have any withdrawals when you stop it?
@@vikrambansal1375 hey bro for how long duration you have taken ambian (zolpidem) ?

I took an Ambien once and it kept me up THE ENTIRE NIGHT. Like zero sleep. What's up with that?
Everyone is so different on how drugs affect them. I get wired the same way on Claritin D and some people fall asleep.
Were you tired later in the day?
I know someone who drinks 10 - 12 very strong black coffee's a day and cant sleep if they dont have one before bed.
Had this happen to a friend once. It had the opposite effect on him.
Same now I’m on Lunesta with the same issue. I don’t know what else to do.

Your thoughts on Remron for sleep, it’s wonderful sleep, fixed my insomnia problems.
Be prepared to gain about 30 pounds , maybe that only happens to women, I don’t know
I gained 40 lbs in 3 months. I’m trying to whine myself off it now.

My work shift changes from days to midnights on monday, tuesday, mabey thursday.....🤔 After 12 years of this i am trying lunesta.
I experienced a traumatic event. A week or so later I started taking Ambien. Just one at first, then more and more throughout the night starting in the early evening. I barely remember the two weeks. My memories are from texts. Even drove 40 minutes and told a guy his fiance was cheating on him with me. Is this Ambien or did I just have a psychotic break for a couple of weeks?
Wow, taking it early in the evening? Why on earth?....No wonder you had so many problems. It's the people who take it incorrectly that have issues.
There are 1000s of horror stories about Ambien.
And millions of success stories
What about seroquel?
No...it causes weight gain and inability to sweat . I refuse to take this I'm borderline overweight
Yes
Wow! I just found out I am a giraffe 🦒!
Congradulations. I hope I have a revelation like that some day.

What are symptoms of what can happen when a doctor doesn't refill your ambien prescription that you've been on for 10 years?
