I took Ambien once or twice a week for nearly 15 years. I was prescribed 10 mg, but I cut them in quarters. A quarter was all I needed. It was a godsend. When I moved to another state my doctor refused to prescribe it. Instead he gave me Trazadone. I have to take it every night. It’s bizarre how doctors ignore what you tell them.
Try Kirkland Signature Sleep Aid. 1/4 of 25mg will knock you out. I used to take Ambien for 10 years, 1/4 of 10 mg but now switched to Kirkland sleep aid brand.
But Trazadone can be used to quit smoking ir alcohol, or benzodiazalibes. I quit a small amount if alprazolam this summer by using Trazodone. I am so grateful that I quit the Alprazolam. I figured it out on my own. I was more depressed during g the summer so we added Trazodobe and since I already wanted to quit the venzo I was using for sleep, and I read that it can be used to quit alcohol, I went ahead and over two to three weeks used it to quit alprazolam to sleep. I am relieved that I did that. I have never tried Ambien.
Wow. Trazodone was horrible for me. Could not get up the next day. I was so sedated during the day but I never actually helped me fall asleep at night. I hated trazodone. How do you like it? I like ambien because I have no hangover the next day. I usually wake up without any grogginess.
So I have apnea got on the machine ....a little over 2 years ago after falling asleep at the wheel going in the ditch luckily nobody was hurt. C-pap has worked great for me but several months ago now I took a new much more stressful job and I find I can no longer sleep through the night, Oh I can ussually fall asleep alright and on the machine I have very few apnea episodes less than is normal for normal sleepers even most of the time but I can no longer stay asleep past a few hours at night...I wake up my brain starts going and thinking on work and thats pretty much it for sleep. My sleep Dr the one who set me up with the machine just prescribed ambien. Last night was the first night I took it. I can tell you I slept mostly through the night woke up once but went back to sleep quickly. How ever my number of apnea events were significantly increased from one or 2 or sometimes even less up to 23 an hour. I decided tonight I will try the pill again if the apnea which has been low on the machine for a long time is significantly increased again I will go tomorrow night without the pill and just deal with being awake half the night and see how many apenea events I end up with....half a night of good sleep I am positive is worse than a full night of restless sleep.
I have super bad bipolar insomnia and my psychiatrist tried many different medications and finally the ambien cr did the trick. He didn’t just start me out on that med and dose. Bipolar patients that don’t sleep run the risk of mania which in my experience was pretty pretty bad.
I hate it how all the doctors do is tell you how bad sleeping pills are try being an insomniac more than half your life than doctor we’ll talk side effects
Exactly! I've had insomnia since I was a child. As a result, I was extremely accident prone because I was so sleep deprived. Ambien is a miracle drug for me.
Exactly! Some people take and abuse these drugs and because they really don’t need it, is easy for them to be opinionated and have fun about it, for someone who cannot sleep without meds or someone who sometimes even on meds have a hard time sleeping, is a different story. I have been insomniac since I was 10 years old due to trauma, so I have spent about 21 years of my life without knowing how it feels to sleep and be rested unless I have meds to help it. I was on trazadone and after increasing my dose 3 times my doctor prescribed another med, but that one did not do it either, my doctor has now suggested this one and if that will help me sleep, I am down to try it, I don’t care about tripping, seeing aliens or having fun with a pill, all I need is to sleep. Only insomniacs will understand how important this is.
wonderful doctor highly informative...I have a question I used sleep with no problems..but last year I done an ear flush on both ears don't know what happened but after that I got extreme head pain in the back part of my head and at the top...went to e.r. done a cat scan but nothing was found...but ever since then I've developed chronic insomnia every night I will get 2-4 hrs of sleep every day...my eyes are sleepy but I can't even get drowsy to fall asleep ..now I'm on zolpidem 10 mg...it's works on and off because sometimes it doesn't help me fall asleep quickly as other times it does..plus I get a maximum of 6hr. top while on this..maybe I need to try the extended release or something else...but the mystery is why will all this happened after an ear flush or did the cat scan had something to do with it??
The CR is more expensive but way more effective. Half the pill puts you to sleep, the other half keeps you from waking up. You'd probably have better luck. Old comment just thought I'd share. ✌🏻

@@lukealadeen7836 It might have had I not started supplementation for brain/cognitive functionality several years ago. I take a really good one. But I started supplementing because of my advancing age, not because I was taking Zolpidiem.
I’ve been on it for years. Still works as good as it did the first time. I have bipolar disorder and good sleep is as important as any of by bipolar meds, so I take an ambien every night to make damn sure I get good sleep haha. You could say I use ambien as a preventative measure to keep my moods stabil. I don’t actually have a diagnosed sleep disorder like chronic insomnia Finding a doctor who was willing to prescribe it was very hard. Most doctors acted like I may as well be asking for crack. I have no idea why so many doctors are so hesitant to prescribe it because it has zero recreational value, to me at least. It doesn’t make me high and I never have the desire/need to take more than one pill. it just knocks me out and I sleep like a baby. I think it’s reputation for addiction and sleepwalking/driving/eating is greatly exaggerated. I DO let the regular generic pill dissolve under my tongue, though. I don’t swallow the pill whole. If you want to call that abuse you can but it works for me and has for years.I let it dissolve and absorb under my tongue that way it isn’t affected by what or how much I ate for dinner, which makes a huge difference in how well and fast it works.
Unfortunately I’m pretty reliant on Zolpidem to sleep. I have most definitely had a lot of amnesia moments. Nothing serious. Just stuff like watching tv in bed and not remember any of it besides I know what show I was watching.

Two questions: What advice is there when even 10mg isn't enough to get to sleep? (On a bad night, I might need 20mg) Does anyone else feel a little grumpy/exhausted/tired/irritable the next day? Ambien has probably been the best fast-acting sleeping pill I've used. What experience do people have with other ones? I was not a fan of lunesta, but have not tried sonata, or restoril (which is a benzodiazepine instead).
Tell you what, find a doctor that will prescribe the 10mg and 12.5 together. The pharmacy will fill them because they aren’t technically the same drug so state dispensing laws and pharmacy dispensing policy has no bearing on the combination. So that’s 22.5 mg a night that will certainly do the trick.

I take a whole bottle in 3 or 4 days. The I've had insomnia since I was a preteen. I can't wait to have it filled every month and all I can think is "I'm going to get some sleep". I'm thinking that over and over till I get in bed. I think I take too many because they don't make me sleepy. I set traps for myself to see if I've gotten up. My sleep walking is always in the kitchen. Why can't I sleep walk and vacuum the whole house? I've woken up to food in the strangest places. I just rough it out when they're gone.
I came here because I visited a relative and he seemed to abuse the Zolpidem in a situation where insomnia is family problem. I was in the clinical research field so I felt like I could open his eyes after I educated myself on Zolpidem. Each person must make their decisions based on what their doctor tells them, what other educated people suggest, and more importantly what your body tells you. Zolpidem is addictive in some people so one cannot just seek information from biased sides.
Based on this comment, I’m highly incredulous that you work in clinical research in any legitimate capacity. You sound like some college aged simpleton who’s trying to appear smart by writing a gargantuan wall of text to make this brilliant observation: ‘sometimes people abuse ambien.’ Wow you should win a Nobel prize, it’s not like it’s already a controlled substance. I’m stunned by how dumb you are, I’m trying to imagine myself in your head
It shouldn't be prescribed to the elderly. Same with benzos. Sounds like the prescribers fault. Most people don't experience those kind of side effects. They've been reported sure, though 99 percent of the time you'll be fine. Hope she recovered well.
I think that has more to do with the individual than the drug. The objective is to take Ambien to fall asleep. You take it after you're in bed ready to go to sleep.
You can build up a tolerance. I was waking up at 2am again and my psychiatrist ordered a really low dose of remeron to take with it. It’s awful waking up at 2 every night and your body feels dead but your brain goes back to a spinning hamster wheel. It didn’t happen when I first started it.
@@sl4983 even with the ambien cr I began waking up around 2 or 3 in the morning. It couldn’t keep me asleep as long as it was supposed to over time, so the remeron was added and now I do sleep solid all night and wake up at a normal time. And this is weird but the lower the dose of remeron it’s more likely to make you sleep. Can someone explain that? Lol
Trazodone for sure. It's not even a sleeping pill. It works, but you're better off with Zolpidem or Sonata. Doc's even use Seroquel for sleep. It's Ludacris. That's like giving clozapine for insomnia because of its sedation. Melatonin helps same with Valerian. If you wanna try OTC.
Zolpidem is not accumulating like benzodiazepines. So surely you are clean after 14 days. My record for the day is 120+ zolpidem and still drove to home. Tolerance is going extremely fast through the roof, it has been said that zolpidem is hooking as fast as meth. Anxiety increases more you take.
No it's addictive for me I started just for six month I took daily of 60 to 70 mg of zolpedium. When I get to know I am now a zombie behave like a Clam zombie. I quit the drug that day for a week or so I was experiencing strange feeling. I can't explain a week or so I was good . It's a good in small amount only. And 100 percent addictive
sounds like a shelf for drug companies as he's under playing the significant addictive effects and withdrawals symptoms that you get when you go off of it as well as underplaying how many people are ending up in the hospital because of this drug.
Tried trazadone, Ambien, and Xanax and none of them worked at all. I use 30mg of temazapam and that works for me. I fall asleep in maybe 30m instead of hours but only sleep maybe 6 hours. I never got tired once on Ambien.
It's never made me tired either. I actually feel very well rested the next morning when I've taken enough of the zolpidem to get the right amount of sleep, more than 10 mg.
Ambien work’s horrible on me. It gives me bad headaches! Including a hangover, as if you had 6 alcohol shots. The Dr gave me 60. I flushed them. And they call it a scheduled drug? Its not addictive to me at all. It should be illegal or taken off the shelf. Thank you Doctor!
I used to do sooo many things to try to sleep, none of it worked. I read an hour before bed (paper books, not on a screen), I did vigorous exercise at the gym for 40 minutes 5-6x/week, I eat very healthy, I keep my mind stimulated. Melatonin and antihistamines gave me horrible side effects. Ambien has had ZERO side effects for me, in fact has improved my sleep and as a result, my quality of life. People who think drugs should be made illegal or extremely hard to get because of "addiction" need to get a grip. There are people who can't get benzodiazepines, opioids, or sleeping pills from awful doctors (EVERY time the young ones with zero clue or experience and watch too much news), and those people then go and ruin their own lives searching for street alternatives. These drugs were invented for a reason! The issue is addiction, not the drugs, because they work so well for many (myself included)
Its not really a recreational drug, and if it does give you a high it wont be a nice one. Smoke weed drink beer dont take hypnotic sleep meds for a high, you lose control of yourself your memory goes and your brain goes doing weird and dangerous shit and you wont be able to stop it.

Trazadone is an anti depressant with tiredness being a side effect… not a good medication for sleep

Ambian is a great medical intervention for sleep. It helps me.
Helped me a lot too. Been on it safely for nearly 15 years. My prescribing Doctor just died recently. New Doctor says she just refuses to prescribe it for me.
Am beside myself. Have 2 refills left then I will be without and will be a suffering insomniac once again. Am starting to really hate Doctors and Mainstream Medicine. Mainstream medicine sucks as far as I am concerned.

I don’t actually have a diagnosed sleep disorder like chronic insomnia
Finding a doctor who was willing to prescribe it was very hard.

Two questions:
What advice is there when even 10mg isn't enough to get to sleep? (On a bad night, I might need 20mg)
Does anyone else feel a little grumpy/exhausted/tired/irritable the next day?
Ambien has probably been the best fast-acting sleeping pill I've used. What experience do people have with other ones? I was not a fan of lunesta, but have not tried sonata, or restoril (which is a benzodiazepine instead).
They make a 12.5 controlled release pill.
Restoril doesn’t work as well, and is even more habit forming, but worth a shot.everyone react differently.

You sound like some college aged simpleton who’s trying to appear smart by writing a gargantuan wall of text to make this brilliant observation: ‘sometimes people abuse ambien.’

It caused (ambulatory) sleep walking in an elderly friend who walked and fell down a long cement staircase and spent month in hospital as a result.
My friend drives on it... its caused her to total her car... oh boy... cops just ask about drinking
I have been on 7.5mg for 2 weeks works like a bomb. . But last 3 days really not working . Could I be immune already ?

You can build up a tolerance. I was waking up at 2am again and my psychiatrist ordered a really low dose of remeron to take with it.
It’s awful waking up at 2 every night and your body feels dead but your brain goes back to a spinning hamster wheel. It didn’t happen when I first started it.

Trazadone
