      Alex Rodriguez Why? It's not keeping you from doing whatever you want with yours... if you even have one.
      Some people want a fun vehicle, others want a capable vehicle.
      It doesn't have to be all things to all people, which is why they make a Sport, a Willys, a Sahara, and Rubicon; because not everybody is off-roadin' or rock crawling.

    man, you looked like you were on the death row reviewing this car! I just bought one, and you even succeeded making me feel bad about it for a moment!
    I'm not saying you're completely wrong about some things: Yeah, it's noisy, it's not great on gas, but that's not why people buy that car.
    At least for me, I bought it because I always loved its looks, heritage, performance ability off road, and the fact that you can pretty much do anything to it. There's more after market parts for it than there are words in the dictionary.
    It just makes me feel "adventurous", every time I look at it or sit in it. And I know it'll get me home, no matter where that is.

      ***** He probably needed counseling after he did it, cried all the way home in his minivan. And he said it was a Sport so you get some upgrades....it's the base model. I don't think he even cared about what he was reviewing. This clown should be lucky he gets paid.

      ***** I think he's just not a Jeep kind of guy, he did mention that he drives a Land Cruiser, sooo.... yeah. He's right though, it's not a particularly practical car, but so what? People don't buy Corvettes because they are practical, they buy them because they are fun. Same with Wranglers. It's a fun vehicle, on and off road.

      After owning this car for more than 6 months and driving it in both winter and summer, I'm not sure if I can recommend it. It's definitely not for everyone. Without a doubt it holds a special place in my heart, but it's just so bad at everything except off-road: the only way the road handling is acceptable is if you picture yourself driving a 5-tonne truck; it drinks so much gas I wonder if I have a hole in my gas tank (and I drive economically); the manual shifter gets irritating after a while in traffic jams; it's loud as hell inside, can barely hold a conversation at highway speeds; towing rating on the 2-door is horrible; and yes, putting the roof back on (soft top) isn't the most fun of things to do. THAT BEING SAID, the good things are: every time I sit in the Jeep, I feel like I'm going to the top of Mt. Everest; I have no doubts I will reach my destination no matter where it is; it's absolutely amazing off-road; driving it without doors and roof on a warm summer evening along a coastline at a sunset is one of the coolest driving experiences; strong sense of community, as every other wrangler driver salutes you; EVERYONE loves it, from little kids to WW2 vets; insane amount of customization parts and options; truck-like feel, if you like that sort of thing, And it looks great.
      My impression so far is I definitively love it, but being that I live in the city and almost never go off road, I'm not so sure this is the best choice for me. I'm not planning on selling it soon, but if I could go back in time, hmmm... I may have chosen differently.

    To help answer some questions better about jeeps from an owner: They do come with electronic locks and windows for the doors. It uses the same connector that the standard door does when you go to remove it. The trail rated badge usually means that they come with skid plates over the gas tank and transfer case. The average person can take down the soft top in less than 5 minutes. The back seat flips up for extra storage and is even completely removable with a simple locking mechanism. Yes they dont get great gas mileage, but they do weigh roughly 5000lbs. Everyone compares a jeep to a normal vehicle when really it's not and you cant. They are designed around the idea of climbing a mountain or running through a mud pit, not going grocery shopping. For as much as you may hate jeeps and think they suck, just to let you know they have been known as one of the best off road vehicles on the planet for 70 years now. Can you say your car has that level of achievement for anything? I own a 2013 2dr sport and i wouldn't trade it for $100k supercar.

    You do realize the Wrangler Sahara model comes standard with power windows and locks. And with an upgrade, nav, satellite, bluetooth, etc? Or maybe you don't. And it takes about 20 seconds to disconnect the power cords to remove the doors. The fact that it took you 10 minutes to take the soft top off is an absolute joke, I can do it in 2 minutes flat, and I've owned it for only 2 months. Oh and it's my daily driver, 60+ miles every day, drives better than most SUV's on the road.

The sticker price was $38k when new. Definitely not in my price range. I really wanted a Rubicon, only because I really do use my jeep offroad as it's intended. But for the huge amount I saved (over $10k) I'm cool with th he jk sport 2dr.

    Part of the reason why I love the Wrangler is that it's unapologetic and uncompromising. No room for the kids's and their soccer gear? Don't care. Drinks like a sailor on shore leave? Don't care. Noisy? Don't care. Ride like a bouncy castle? You got, don't care. There are plenty of CR-Vs and Rav4s out there for your sensitive vagina.

    Come on Ron. You showed your total ignorance agsin, just like you did when you reviewed the 4runner. You can get a wrangler with power windows and door locks, even with removable doors. My 07 Sahara unlimited had both. If you are gonna put yourself out there and review a vehicle then at least do your homework.

      It might help if you understood the economics & logistics of this business. As an independent outlet, we do our best to get the facts right. A typical video on TH-cam generates a minimal amount of money. Furthermore, we were not invited to the Wrangler launch so the information we receive is limited. Sure we could spend countless hours researching every fact, but based on how much money we receive for these reviews, it simply won't be viable. However, if you would like to volunteer as our fact-checker, we'd be happy to have you. More importantly, the line about the removable doors is not going to affect any buying decisions on the Wrangler. We focused on and covered the most important points which are that (1) the Wrangler is a great off-road vehicle, (2) the Wrangler is a terrible daily driver, (3) the Wrangler's technology is old & dated, and (4) we only recommend consumers buy the Wrangler if they use it as an off-road vehicle. Hope this helps. Thanks for your support and we hope you keep watching.

      @bighibs 10 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      thedriversseat Ok so what you are telling me is you are doing reviews on vehicles but don't have time to research them. I always enjoyed watching Ron's reviews because he does review the vehicles I am interested in quite often. Sure he totally flubbed the 4runner review (although he did re - evaluate it after some harsh criticism). And as you could tell from my comment earlier I didn't care for the wrangler review. But yes I will continue to watch your channel because cars are a huge passion of mine. And if you are serious about me volunteering as a fact checker I would be more than glad to help you so that you can grow your channel.

    • @thedriversseat
      @thedriversseat  10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hiblario What we are telling you is that with this Wrangler review - and all of our reviews - we focus on providing our viewers with our perspective after test driving the vehicle for one full week. A typical test drive at the dealership only last 10 minutes. After 7 days, we know enough about that vehicle and the competitive set to draw intelligent conclusions about it. Each recommendation is made with knowledge and experience. However, consumers usually watch and read reviews so they can validate their own purchases.
      With regards to the 4Runner, Ron's drive partner on that event was Michael Harley from Autoblog, a very well respected journalist. They both agreed that Toyota has stopped trying to improve the 4Runner because they essentially have zero competition since competitors like the Explorer and Pathfinder have moved to a unibody platform to save weight and cost.
      We do subscribe to the notion that we are entitled to our own opinions and not our own facts. To further clarify, we will not be 100% accurate on all facts on all vehicles, but we will try. Occasionally, as in the case of the doors on the Wrangler, we may have made a mistake. Honestly, the company who manages the press fleet for Jeep told us that the Wrangler had crank windows because of the removable doors so we took their word for it, since they are agents for Jeep.
      Send your information to thedriversseattv@gmail.com for consideration to be our fact checker.

    for those complaining about price, that's MSRP. dealers are moving mountains if you place an order with them before the 2017 model year.
    i just special ordered a 2016 Wrangler Unlimited Sport S with almost every option. power everything, dual tops, everything.
    MSRP was $39,267. my negotiated order price was $33,779., $33,779 for what i ordered is incredible. granted it took 2 weeks of haggling but w/e.
    i could actually take my vehicle right off the delivery truck and flip it on Craigslist and make a profit

      Evin Kumar I'm going to preface my comment by saying I am a huge Jeep fan. I love them, always have, but the host is pretty spot on with his assessment. It is purpose built. If you want comfort, buy a Cadillac. If you want practical, buy a minivan. If you want fuel economy, buy a Prius. If you want to tear up the trail, buy a Wrangler. So if you buy a Wrangler for long distance highway cruising, you're an idiot. That's all he's saying.

      I live in Calgary and Ski in the Rockies and drive my JKU (4dr) Rubicon to/from the ski hills & back-country, where it goes days without shelter, and I can tell you from experience that the hardtop is more than fine in the winter, and even the soft top is capable of retaining the large amount of heat from the vents. And if you use synthetic oil you won't have any trouble starting the Wrangler even after being unplugged all day in -40 degree weather.
      As for the price, what are you comparing it to that you think it's high? My Rubicon is on the higher side, but the SportS is a lot less expensive.

    actually not a bad review , he is right , a jeep isnt for everyone . around here a two door sport new can be had for around 24k so his pricing is off . may be location . the top comes down in literally 3 minutes after some practice .our rubicon has all the power options and the doors are still removable . and resale ! yup traded our 2011 for what we paid new ! so he was right about that . and he said he enjoyed it which was a good thing . but most people dont get the whole jeep thing . im glad we do .

    All the complaining about the storage.. it's not a van! We pack a lot into ours by adding a 24" deep storage box accessible from the gate so we're able to also put stuff on top. We've even slept in it.. quit your whining! It's got lots of interior room and with the right tires is pretty quiet, even with a soft top. 😁

    “Trail rated” means nothing. It’s a slogan. I have a JK Sport that I inherited. You’re right. It’s a very impractical vehicle unless you at least take it dirt roading. I would never have bought a new Wrangler but I enjoy this one immensely, espywith the soft top down. It’s also the easiest car ever to park in parking lots. It’s turning radius is so sharp you can almost turn it around in a parking space.

    • @unicornsteaks6769

      But I will say the Sport, which is the lowest trim level is still a more capable off roader than almost anything else on the market. Throw in a locking differential or two and that’s as good as you can buy. Now you’re ready to break stuff.

    I appreciate what you're trying to do and I'll agree with you on a few points: A Wrangler isn't the most comfortable, they are louder than other cars on the road and fuel economy sucks (mine gets around 12). And I can understand you not wanting to spend 30 grand on one. They are expensive, especially when you factor in all the upgrades we throw at them after the fact. Part of the reason they hold their resale value is the niche market that includes me. You say "I get it, it's a Jeep thing". You don't. And if you've never owned a Jeep you never will. I don't know anyone who bought a Wrangler for fuel economy. As you mentioned, they are very capable off road even in stock trim. That's what they're designed for, but there are many owners who never use their rig off road and they commute just fine. The Sport trim doesn't have "upgrades". Do a little more research beforehand, The Sport trim is entry class for Wranglers. My 2014 Wrangler came from the factory with leather seats, keyless entry, remote start, power locks and power windows. The doors are still easily removed with those options. I'm probably biased as an enthusiast, but I don't think you gave a fair review.

    You're not really wasting your money with a Wrangler. They have one of the best resell values of any car on the road. They're one of the few cars where you can finance for 72 months and trade it in a few years later and not be upside down on.
    Plus, a 2 door wrangler has one of the cheapest insurance prices on a 4x4 or AWD on the road.

      Not to mention the fact that the unlimited is the only 4-door convertible on the market, has the offroad prowess of a land rover without all the maintenance, has something the reviewer has never heard of called "optional equipment" and the "$29000" doesn't look so bad. However, who pays msrp?? My 4 door, sport s, power windows/locks, max tow pack, lsd, auto trans, Bluetooth, hardtop, and side airbags msrp'ed at $34k even, and I got it for $28k. I could literally turn around and sell it tomorrow for more than I paid for it! Resale on these is ridiculous. I've seen 2008's go for what I paid brand new.

    Maybe this reviewer is in need of automobile education.Research these vehicles,inside and out,before you make a fool of yourself.Also,your video clips are very misleading.The trail action clips are of the Rubicon going over terrain that would eat that Sport model you are sitting in.The two differ wildly in stock trim.
    Spend more time on Google and less on flexing.

      If you look closely the jk he's representing isn't even a sport, every one I've ever seen has a "sport" decal on the fenders just like mine does. I've got a '14 jk sport with a limited slip rear differential (it's an autimat8c, no man pedal) and it's more than capable of mimicking the silly ass clips he showed of the Rubicon. You're 100% correct tho. His video clips were ridiculous and misleading, not to mention his knowledge of the vehicle was limited at best. Happy trails!

    I like the jeep because its like a truck but alot more convenient when parking or driving in tight spaces. You wont spend 30g (even though you can get them for like 10g on craigslist) fine then dont.
    Go spend 50g on a corvette that you cant fit in, you never use its power and go 150mph, cant look around due to bad visibility, and cant go over rocks, speedbumps, sidewalks, potholes, and anything else that isnt perfectly flat or ramps that raise by a degree every mile. Now thats a waste of money

    You can buy a brand new base model for 25k all fees and taxes included, if you don't want to go offroading. And the base do pretty good on road when compared to older models. Fun to drive, and versatile.
    The review is misleading.

    I don't think he truly gets the "it's a Jeep thing" It's ok, not everyone will get it. I know that I will always be a wrangler/CJ owner whether it be a daily driver or my fun 2nd vehicle. Driving a jeep gives you a feeling no other vehicles can. I do agree that the Wrangler prices are way out of control and Jeep needs to be more realistic.

    • @KnightShadey

      No it's a *SPORT* model, with Anvil Colour and Rubicon Rims with MT KMs (not KM2s) and likely some other upgrades.... but obviously NOT Power Anything which he moans about. Even a standard Rubicon, let alone a Rubicon X would be much better equipped than this.
      Look @ 1:58 it is clearly shown up close to be a Sport, and on the side while he stands beside it.
      The cut-away clips are of a 10A, but the review car is *NOT* a Rubi 10A, especially since there are no Rubicon 10A for 2014, only Rubicon Xs which are not full 10As as they come with less lift, the standard KM tires instead of KM2s, and no Red Seat option. The 10A was a limited short run in 2013 only, hence 10th Anniversary.

    • @PatrickRoy30
      @PatrickRoy30 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maseehullah Kathrada They used 2 different Jeeps for this video. They used a 10th anniversary Rubicon, and a sport. Both the same exterior color. The 10th anniversary has the red seats. You can clearly see at 1:34 that there was a Rubicon model used. It's weird, they reviewed a sport model, but 50% of the clips were of the Rubicon.

    ron its called BDL technology . if your gonna review at least have basic knowledge of the product . it uses braking in milliseconds to keep all 4 wheels at same speed . so if you have one spinning it transfers pwr to the wheel that's not spinning . a step down from solid lockers but far better then common 4wd. land rovers are junk and way overpriced.

    • @Mcscott67
      @Mcscott67 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rovers suck! I love my '14 JK Sport 2dr. It's slightly modified because I wanted to, not because it really needed it, but I do use it on aggressive trails. It's always done any and everything I've asked of it, including commuting to and from.

    I find it funny how people react to the price of this vehicle. Let's be real what vehicle isn't over priced. I've driven my friends sahara 4 door off road here in the colo rockys and must say its capable but clumsy. I was disappointed that there wasn't any skid plate protection for what she had and paid. If you look at the vid you'll see the same thing. Almost 30k and no underbelly protection. :(

    • @ronaldemms
      @ronaldemms 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a 2009 sahara wrangler and it has skid plates over the oil pan transfer case and gas tank stock.

    • @KnightShadey
      @KnightShadey 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Abraham, the Sahara DOES have skid plates, the Rubicon has an additional plate, but ALL JK Saharas have underbelly protection.
      The reason you don't see any in the video for HIS model is because he has a SPORT which doesn't have any skid plates, the other vehicle (the 4dr Rubicon 10A) has a ton of protection. So once again, this video is going to cause more confusion than it solves.
      As for the price, it's simple economics, they sell-out at their MSRP, and they can't keep up with demand, thus they are appropriately priced. For their capability, they are similarly priced to Ford Escapes, Chevy Equinox, Subaru Forresters/Outbacks, Toyota FJs, etc.
      They're definitely not over-priced, they're just more vehicle than alot of people need, but the same can be said about a Mustang, BMW, Ferrari, etc. Not everyone wants to drive a Nissan Micra or Dacia Sandero just so they can get the best 'bang for their buck', some people wanna enjoy their time in their vehicle. =;-)

    285hp pentastar v-6 engine, combined with a smooth shifting 6-speed transmission(auto. or manual) will yield an estimated 30mpg(hwy)*
    *source.... I work for Chrysler!!!!!!!

    • @KnightShadey
      @KnightShadey 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why bother with a 6-speed when you could harmonize the platform on a ZF 7-Speed transmission which can be made for dual clutch or for non-DC-manual-shifitng? Tht would be a much better option, and alow them to better address low-end grunt and highway speeds, and even keep killer ratios on a 3.73 axle without the need for a 4.1 even on a Rubicon (but you still could make it a Hard Rock option).
