    Perhaps Buakaw is so good because he knows when is a time to train hard and when is time to recovery.

      I think he may have figured that out later in his fight career. They pushed him hard at his old gym.

    Now that you, Damien Trainor, and Joe Valtellini are all posting technique videos, I'm scared of competing lol. I know its all about work ethic and there's no secret technique that will make you a champion, but you can't help but feel intimidated by that talent in the world today when everyone has access to such greatness at the tips of their thumbs. Awesome vid as usual Gabriel.

      Haha. That's why I never posted on social media in the past. I didn't want my opponents using my training tips.
      But like you said it's work ethic and not everyone will do the work.
      I now want to share so others can improve. It takes time to research and learn but it's definitely worth it. I learned so much about kickboxing and boxing by watching videos.

      I know. He wasn't training very hard when I was there.
      I have some other funny stories about him slacking. And that's right before he lost to Sato. I guess the very easy lesson is always train hard.

      Personally?
      The details about the foot of the standing leg was one of those small but EXTREMELY important for me to wrap my mind around the technique!
      I've always been a detailed oriented person so when people break a technique down to it's smallest parts, that has always worked best for me.
      Speaking of combinations...
      Have you thought about making your own Shadowboxing Tapes? Other than Bas Rutten, I can't recall of any other fighters that have made any after him.
      You could make a video guideline introducing it, heck make a basic one for everyone to try then have some advanced tapes with accompanying videos to introduce and describe each one as a way to put some money in your pockets 💰
      🤔🤷🏽‍♂️😉
      Just a thought lol

    Hi, Gabriel - could you give us some clue - how to keep the balance when kicking and when the leg goes down? My problem is that I put my leg down for too long and I don't know where to put it. And I loose balance

    Is muscle memory a thing with kickboxing? I recently got back into training, just I'm not stretching intensely like before. Definitely lost alot of form on my kicks got any videos on hook kicks?

    • @GabrielVargaOfficial
      @GabrielVargaOfficial  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      100% it's a thing. That's why it's so important to drill technique correctly. If you do it wrong to many times muscle memory will kick in and it's much more likely to make mistakes. Especially when you are tired in training.
      I don't have any hook kick videos yet.
      Stretching will come back quickly. I have a few good stretching videos on the channel which you could check out. Just put in the time 👍

    By the way do you still fight? And can you still train with Buakaw in thailand?

    • @GabrielVargaOfficial

      I do still fight and am signed with Bellator. I have their kickboxing belt and also compete in MMA for them.
      Buakaw has his own gym now. You can go train with him there. I think it's his last name so Banchamek Gym.

    The flat foot creates more power though right? this method is just for the multiple consecutive kicks?

    • @GabrielVargaOfficial
      @GabrielVargaOfficial  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Ooo man. Difficult to explain in a short reply.
      When you pivot your weight should be in the ball of the foot. You can go flat footed but I don't think you get more power...unless you're throwing a low kick.
      I'll do a video on it so I can properly explain.

    • @IrishKyokushin
      @IrishKyokushin 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Trying to multi kick flat footed is a great way to destroy your knees.

    • @0OOO0GAAA
      @0OOO0GAAA 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Flat foot is great for stability, but there will be a large surface area when you're pivoting. You also add momentum when you lift your heel upwards. Flat foot is better when you're doing low kicks (Usually you hop when doing a low kick).

    • @georgieman1910
      @georgieman1910 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Think ballet and ballerinas and how they are able to spin so fast when they are on their toes. Muay thai is very graceful like this. All the round kicks, knees in Muay Thai are supposed to be done with open hips and tippy-toes. This lessens the amount of surface area of your foot in contact with the ground, making your pivoting faster and easier. It also creates maximum power transfer and extension of your technique. If you flat foot it, your foot surface area is increased making it stick and harder to pivot quickly. You can also twist your knees this way.
      The only exceptions to this rule is maybe with low chopping kicks, where sometimes you will see fighters are more liberal with their technique and create the torque with just their hips and a flatter supporting foot. However, even so they will either pivot step the supporting foot moving laterally or raise it slightly as the cut kick goes in. Watch how notorious low kickers like Ernesto Hoost and Liam Harrison, for example, pull this off.

      @@georgieman1910 Man, I really get what you're saying. I've tried both and tbh it really felt awkward flat-footed. When I throw the kick flat-footed, the kick will stop right on hit and I can't kick through the target almost everytime. I also lose my balance when I want to return back to my position. When I lift my heel, the kick went faster and was really powerful. I can kick through past the target. Also, I felt really light and I didn't even wobble when returning back to my position...
