My problem is definitely turning my hips with my kicks, and also getting used to the "cutting through" mindset. Getting better all the time though, great video!
@@ihajeesbut I've seen some videos where they do several kicks very fast in succession, like for exercise and practicing speed, and the faster you are, the less turnover of the hips.
M.A. The Jr hooks? the Thai kick is much more complicated than a hook. think about swinging a baseball bat. it's a full body motion. I always think the lead hook is much easier than the strong side hook too
Cool that the dog allowed you to showcase your Muay Thai skills in his training area. You can see that he’s even got his own symbol on the padded walls. You can see him showing off some BJJ skills near your feet which is very interesting and nice of him to show as well.
I have been training Muay Thai for about 6months now and I find Binge watching your videos really helps, it keeps everything fresh in my mind and gives me great tips for when I'm back with my trainer... love this channel, massive respect 🥊
I'm in taekwondo and I use my kicks to keep my opponent from reaching me. When it comes to kicking, I care about both strong power and distance, but it's hard to get both at the same time. This guy definitely knows his stuff, I trust him.
Started using the tips shown here today on my kickboxing class and could imminently notice the improvement. Still need to learn of course but man the leap was really good I kept getting compliments on how much better they've become. Thank you very much!!
I could see a video where he takes a clip of his dog, and then analyzes the technique as if it were serious. :D Think of what Doug Polk did with some poker hands from movies.
Just finished my first sparring match. Went in there after watching this video. Had my opponent in my mouth for like 3 minutes straight...he tried to get away so I shook him up really good. Didnt have to land a single punch or kick. Then my trainer gave me a treat. I was happy.
Love the idea of the '5 most common mistakes' series and how it compliments the traditional to-do tutorials. Thanks Shane! Love the dog sparing going on too
Great vid, I just got back on a heavy bag after 7 years off one. I know my form is off on my mule and reverse kicks, but I felt like it was still on point with my thai slaps. This vid confirms I'm still doing it right. Thank you very much!
I've trained for years in Muay Thai and honestly think you're doing a great service! It helps learners like myself who needs to understand the kinetics of kicking. Cheers brother!
I've watched this video multiple times but every time I get better I come back and watch it again. I still get useful information the 4th or 5th time watching it, the "comb the hair back" helps me figure out how to keep that lead hand up
thank you sir, one thing I liked about when I trained, was doing it correctly... whether working out our sparring with classmates.. didn't want to hurt anybody or hurt myself... again thank you for your time. Train safe.. God bless.
@@devitomichael a pivot on the rear foot is involved or as Shane shows in this video, a step to the side will also work as it decreases how much you have to open the hips.
I think he did it for professionalism... I bet he loves his dog (judging by his logo which looks very similar) and also that it has such a cute toy as well as when the dog dropped the toy at his feet which is used to initiate play.
I do Taekwondo, but I watch a lot of Muay Thai content to improve the power of my technique overall. Also- that dog back there is training some serious BJJ
Good tips but you missed some IMPORTANT points, like rotating on the balls of your feet, totally relaxing the leg, making sure your chin is down to allow the body to rotate over more easily... when you leg kick you should sit down on your base leg and when you body kick the base leg should be extended...just a couple of pointers that helped me get the whip into my kicks...keep it up kab🙏🏾
Yes I noticed that straight away, can't be talking about how to throw a thai roundhouse and not rotating on the balls of your feet. The flat foot is more K-1/Dutch Style
Kingdom Journey also didn't mention about keeping your body relax and leg until the moment of impact when you tighten core. Leg should be just off fully extended not bent.
Great job Shane, I have been watching your videos for a couple of years and you have a good combination of articulate explanation coupled with competent demonstration. This is a hard combination to find in martial arts tutorials. It is apparent you love what you do; keep doing your thing bro.
You jsut helped out so much. Mauy Thai and taekwondo are not the same thing but the round house kick is close enough. I forgot bc i haven’t been there in about a while and i was trying to kick to high getting me off balance. Lol

Hey Shane, thank you for all the great videos, really helping me a lot. Can you tell us from where you have those clothes your hoody and your shorts? Thanks a lot :)
You have to develop the flexibility of the hip to be able to rotate, otherwise "just trying it" will injure your knee of the supporting leg. Even more so if it feels weird and you keep kicking without the awareness, thinking it's normal. I've treated so many people with that issue. I wish you would have mentioned this and warned people on how they should practice it, instead of saying "rotate" period. I would have less work but there'd be less injured practitioners and I can always charge more for the hopefully very few that get injured.
