Also keeping in mind, In the main timeline, the threat of Cell had major impact towards 17 and 18. As it showed them that there are threats much bigger than they are, and how it feels to be POWERLESS against such threat. And this is literally DAYS after they were activated. But in the future timeline, it took them like 16+ YEARS after their activation, to finally experience POWERLESSNESS against a foe.

Remember that trunks or even Vegetas final flash when he went full power in the prime timeline was able to hurt Cell.

This is my all time favorite episode of the franchise. Trunks is my favorite character because he plays no games. It's so satisfying to see him handle business and finally bring peace to his timeline.
What I find interesting about this fight, and I guess Trunks' personality as well, is that I've never really seen an anime where the good guy just straight up yells "DIE!" to his opponent and then proceeds to kill him.. That's really badass
Also Gohan probably also learned from Goku and Vegeta's mistakes and taught Trunks that. I say that because Future Gohan didn't fuck around either since they both had way too much hatred for the Androids to even try to be cocky around them
You guys finally finished the Cell Saga, which is by far my favorite saga in DBZ! The fight between Gohan and Perfect Cell included my two favorite Dragon Ball moments ever: Gohan’s first time turning SSJ2 and his Father-Son Kamehameha to finish off Cell. This arc also introduced some of my favorite characters ever. Ever since I first saw Cell introduced, he’s been my favorite Dragon Ball villain. I find him a lot cooler than Frieza. This episode is a good example of why Trunks is my overall favorite male character and Android 18 my favorite female character in Dragon Ball. But yeah, even though the Cell Saga is over now, I’m still very excited for you to experience the Majin Buu Saga, with the Great Saiyaman Arc starting it! I’m especially excited to see Madison’s reaction to all the new characters that will be introduced, such as Videl or Goten.
Ive always been a huge fan of cells powerup before fighting piccolo again, the souls of all those people making a pseudo super saiyan aura, christ its beautiful and terrifying

I think what Trunks did with the Androids is nearly perfect, he didn't exactly make them suffer, buuuuut... He held back just enough for just a little bit so that he could have a talk with them and make them understand... Understand *that* it's the end of the line, *that* he's way beyond them and *that* he won't show mercy, *that* they brought this onto themselves and he made them understand at least a little bit how all of the other inhabitants of Earth felt... He made sure that they understood all of that before their death so they could "meditate" on that in HELL... *Then* he ended them/sent them there quickly, without theathrics. *Chef's Kiss*
Trunks is one of the only Z fighters that doesn’t fuck around with his opponents lol and give them all sorts of opportunities and openings to turn the tables on him.
@@jsmithers. yeah but Goku spares people out of either selfishness or unrealistic idealism depending on the circumstance (ex: Vegeta=selfishness simply because Goku wanted to fight him again, though that worked out in the Z warriors favor luckily, and Freeza unrealistic idealism that puts a lot of lives at risk). Also Goku fucks around plenty such as with Freeza (see previous example) and Cell.

The same thing would’ve happened here with [Future] Cell, if Trunks was not aware of Cell’s existence In short there are three Cells, from three different timelines - Main Cell (Far Future Timeline - Super Perfect) - Present Cell (Main Timeline - embryo) - Future Cell (Trunks’ Timeline - Imperfect)
To clear up some confusion from the whole timeline thing. There are 3 timelines presented in the show. 1. The Main Timeline: this is the main one that we have been witnessing where everyone is alive. 2. Trunks Timeline: this is the one where future Trunks is from. The androids betrayed Dr. Gero and the androids set themselves free on the world and have been destroying everything. 3. Cell’s Timeline: this is the one where Cell came from and into the Main Timeline. In this one the androids also betrayed Dr. Gero and started destroying the world. However in this one Bulma came up with a device that was used to deactivate and destroy the androids. Very similar to the Main Timeline where she came up with detonator and gave it to Krillin. Trunks used it in this timeline and destroyed the androids. Cell finally grew from his capsule and spent time searching for the androids but couldn’t find them cause Trunks destroyed them with a remote. Cell ended up finding Trunks with his time machine and killed him. He proceeded to use it to travel to the Main Timeline. The Cell in the Main Timeline would end up being destroyed in the Main Timeline by the man the myth the legend Krillin. Trunks will then destroy the Cell in the Trunks Timeline along with the androids. The androids from the Main Timeline would end up surviving. The Cell from Cell’s Timeline was the one we witnessed which was killed by Gohan in the epic one handed father and son kamehameha battle. I hope this helps clear things up about the timelines. They can be pretty confusing. Also Baris your are absolutely right about Trunk’s strength at this point. The androids are stronger then a Super Saiyan, Imperfect Cell is a lot stronger then the androids, and Semi-Perfect Cell is way way stronger then Imperfect Cell. Trunks is strong enough to basically handle Semi-Perfect Cell with ease. So at this point he completely outclasses them in every way. I also really love that unlike the other Saiyans like Goku, Gohan, and Vegeta he doesn’t play around. We see how playing around and not finishing the job ended up so badly many times. With Goku keep giving Frieza chances, to Vegeta not finishing Semi-Perfect Cell, to Gohan not finishing Cell and instead just kept playing with him to make him suffer. All these cases came back to bite them really bad and people ended up getting killed. Trunks was not making the same mistake as the others. Just finish it and be done and let the nightmare finally be over. Overall my favorite saga. Extremely emotional, well built story telling with every issue coming to a full circle. Every character had their shining point and at the end all the Z-fighters from the show teaming up in the final battle was just the best. Now its on to the Buu Saga. Personally imo its definitely the weakest of the 4 sagas but its still good. I like Majin Buu as a villain and some of the fights are pretty fantastic. Vegeta also gets his best moment in the saga. However where the saga for me lacks compared to the other sagas is the story telling, writing and pacing. Great job avoiding spoilers for her as always Baris and hope you enjoy revisiting this saga.

So just to clear up confusion- there are essentially 3 timelines in play during this saga: 1.) the main timeline (our timeline) 2.) Future Trunks timeline 3.) Cell’s timeline We are made to believe in the beginning that Future Trunks came from the future of timeline #1 (our timeline) and he very well may have *until* he actually went back and changed the past. This created a branch in the timeline from his future (timeline #2) and our present (timeline #3). Cell comes from a completely separate timeline where Trunks already killed the androids before Cell could find them, hence why Cell was able use a time travel machine and effectively “discover” a timeline where the androids were not killed (“our” timeline).
I see Future Androids 17 and 18, as delinquents who were given immense power, but little responsibility. So to satisfy their boredom, they literally kill people for fun. It’s like playing GTA but in real life. In essence, everything they do is just a game to them, they have no ultimate objectives, they just want to have fun, but in a twisted way. But in the main timeline, they are much different due to several factors. When they were activated, they were literally bored and had nothing else to do. But when they activated Android 16, they had something fun to do, since 16 wanted to kill Goku. 17 even admitted that finding Goku was just a game to them. Also the threat of Cell was another factor. As Cell demonstrated that there are threats much bigger than they are, and they experienced what it feels to be powerless against such threat.
The reason why cell is still there is because trunks went back to the future but 3 years earlier before he was supposed to die and because of that, that diverges yet another timeline so that’s how you have “Trunks timeline” and “cells timeline”

For all the finishing moves Vegeta throws around and all the power Goku boasts, Trunks has a body list longer than anyone else's, and he made it by just using a sword and basic energy blasts. The dude is the perfect warrior despite not being the most powerful, because he had to live through absolute hell; he knows what it means to finish fights to the end. That makes Trunks so badass.
That's what I love about trunks and why he's my favorite saiyan. He doesn't toy around with the enemy like how vegeta and Gohan does, he gets the job done quick. He thinks like a human and won't let his opponents get the upper hand some kind of way.

This was such a satisfying episode to watch no matter how many times I see it. Trunks has been hardened enough through all the trauma in his life, to know not to mess around with his opponents
You got to love how easily he got rid of the androids and cell. It's satisfying after seeing the hell he went through with the androids. They are definitely more evil in his timeline. Well Trunks enjoy the overdue peace.
Fun fact: in the French version, Bulma is dubbed by the same person who dubs Julia Roberts. So when you watch DBZ in French it's like Julia Roberts is playing Bulma.
I've always loved that small detail when after making Cell crispy, Trunks turns his gaze towards skies and expresses his gratitude towards Vegeta, Gohan and Goku, while the music subtly accentuates the end of a painful era and a glimmer of hope ahead. This entire arc has such a wonderful payoffs and no matter how many times you watched it, its still brings so much joy. If only such level of writing could be seen more often nowadays....
Just a small request from many of us: Don't skip ALL of the fillers, just Goku's other world tournament. Videls introduction and character is great imo, and think they should've done a little more with her. Not to mention Gotens 1st intro carrying a big ol' fish back home. Videl learning to fly and "I'll fight too"... All good build up episodes to the last saga.
I have a theory about why Androids 17 and 18 are so different in the future Trunks timeline than they are in the prime timeline, and why 19 and 20 seem to appear out of nowhere. My theory? Android 19 and Dr. Gero were actually the ones who attacked the first city in the future timeline as well! You see, none of the Z warriors were actually present when the first attack happened under the Androids. But, it WAS 17 and 18 who they eventually encountered and had killed them all. Because Androids do not emit sensable energy, it could have been some time before the heroes actually encountered whoever was destroying cities. They had similar trouble tracking down Cell when he was hiding his power level during his rampage. But in the prime timeline, the Z Warriors were on site, and witnessed the attack. And in addition to that, they had undergone training and had prepared for this attack and were able to almost easily defeat the Androids that were present. Forcing Dr Gero to, in his own words, undergo drastic measures. That being activating Androids 17 and 18 EARLY! It's emphasized that Dr. Gero was planning to activate them much later on, because he had already had problems with them being too rebellious. He was likely keeping them in their pods to undergo further programming to make them less human and more obedient. 17 and 18, remember, were technically cyborgs, not androids. They were originally human that Dr. Gero had made into mechanical beings, and likely resented him because of it. He also would have reduced their power while he was reprogramming them so he can more easily control them. Had Dr. Gero not activated them so soon, they likely would have been more depowered, and less human in their tendencies, producing the cold-hearted murderers that Trunks knew all too well. The fact they killed Dr Shero anyway was just too poetic to not keep the same event. So Dr. Gero and Android 19 attack the first city, and likely others, and eventually Dr. Gero activated his next two Androids after he believed they had reached just the right amount of power and obedience to stand alongside him like 19 did. They killed him and 19 anyway, and resumed their creator's Android rampage. Trunks assumed, since he was only a baby at the time, that from context clues and everything they though they knew, it was 17 and 18 from the beginning, when it wasn't. So the actual specifics of why the Androids are "different" is that they actually aren't any different. The heroes just arrived earlier in the story and got a better picture of what really happened that day. And because 17 and 18 were activated early, not only were they far more powerful, they still had enough Humanity left in in them to eventually become good guys.
Fun fact: in the Manga, 17 kills the old man as opposed to Trunks saving him last second. I felt this change was better suited. That was too dark to kill him off in the manga. Though, TFS went with the manga direction with a funny spin behind it.
Finally! After all the shit those androids put him through, he manage to exact revenge for the death of his friends and father but also make his master proud and bring peace to the world.

If you recall the androids from his timeline are weaker than the ones from the present timeline. He even comments on it in a monologue when he hears more androids showed up in this timeline versus what happened in his timeline. I think it was around the episode where Vegeta got his arm broken by 18 in the present timeline, or not long after. I think he even states later on that he thinks by Cell coming back in time to find the androids he somehow influenced or changed the work Gero performed on 17 and 18. Long story short, these androids REALLY didn't stand a chance.
Which makes me wonder if everyone in his timeline was generally weaker. Gohan was probably a SSJ for years and couldn't beat the androids. Trunks had been a SSJ for a few years and was weaker than present SSJ Goku when they met.
I still wonder, why Trunks didn't asked his mother (no matter if it's his future or the past where most of his friends are alive) to build him a Space Ship so he could travel to New Namek and use their Dragonballs to revive everyone. And maybe taking their Dende to replace the future version of Kami with new Dragonballs for earth.

Trunks is not like Goku and Vegeta. Goku wants to spare his opponents to be able to face them again, Vegeta loves to rage on them or let them get stronger; instead Trunks just wants to destroy them and he does it without hesitation.

I started this channel by watching "The History of Trunks" reaction that I got recommended, it really had been a great journey, so excited for what's to come!
If King Kai is still around in Trunks' timeline, he could find the Namekians, Trunks could go there and there use the Namekian Dragon Balls to: 1. Revive every one on Earth killed by the Andriods 2. Wish for Goku to come back to life. 3. Wish the Androids off the Earth entirely
My fav example of longterm writing occurs around here. At the very end after everyone goes home, Vegeta basically says he has no more reason to fight since Goku is dead. This is called foreshadowing

The main thing everyone like Trunks. He doesn’t toy with his opponents when he has the upper hand he takes it. Gohan, Goku, and especially Vegeta have it bad with playing around with their opponents. Trunks has lost a lot of friends and his dad from the Androids which give him this no mercy attitude.
Not gonna lie, when Cell is gasping in a heap at 15:17... I've always felt sorry for him in that moment. To some extent he is a victim too, of Dr. Gero. At this point in his evolution I always wonder how much of him is truly evil.
They were probably so much different just because of no contact with Cell, and the fact that Goku was already dead which was their main mission. They were kidnapped kids with a rebellious nature normally, Lazuli and Lapis are their names as humans.

@@jsmithers. yeah but Goku spares people out of either selfishness or unrealistic idealism depending on the circumstance (ex: Vegeta=selfishness simply because Goku wanted to fight him again, though that worked out in the Z warriors favor luckily, and Freeza unrealistic idealism that puts a lot of lives at risk). Also Goku fucks around plenty such as with Freeza (see previous example) and Cell.

Either way, Goku is less about toying with his enemies like Vegeta does, and more about being naive and merciful and selfish in his desire to fight and the danger that may cause.

@@jsmithers. I agree, though mainly only when Gohan went SSJ2 and when he fucks around with some one pink later in the series (being vague for spoilers). Gohan doesn’t do that kind of crap as much as the others though. Also Goku gave Cell the senzu, which could be argued was necessary for Goku’s plan to go SSJ2 to happen, at the same time Gohan likely could have beaten the worn down Cell if he played smart and not needed SSJ2 anyway.

In short there are three Cells, from three different timelines
- Main Cell (Far Future Timeline - Super Perfect)
- Present Cell (Main Timeline - embryo)
- Future Cell (Trunks’ Timeline - Imperfect)
To clear up some confusion from the whole timeline thing. There are 3 timelines presented in the show.
1. The Main Timeline: this is the main one that we have been witnessing where everyone is alive.
2. Trunks Timeline: this is the one where future Trunks is from. The androids betrayed Dr. Gero and the androids set themselves free on the world and have been destroying everything.
3. Cell’s Timeline: this is the one where Cell came from and into the Main Timeline. In this one the androids also betrayed Dr. Gero and started destroying the world. However in this one Bulma came up with a device that was used to deactivate and destroy the androids. Very similar to the Main Timeline where she came up with detonator and gave it to Krillin. Trunks used it in this timeline and destroyed the androids. Cell finally grew from his capsule and spent time searching for the androids but couldn’t find them cause Trunks destroyed them with a remote. Cell ended up finding Trunks with his time machine and killed him. He proceeded to use it to travel to the Main Timeline.
The Cell in the Main Timeline would end up being destroyed in the Main Timeline by the man the myth the legend Krillin. Trunks will then destroy the Cell in the Trunks Timeline along with the androids. The androids from the Main Timeline would end up surviving. The Cell from Cell’s Timeline was the one we witnessed which was killed by Gohan in the epic one handed father and son kamehameha battle.
I hope this helps clear things up about the timelines. They can be pretty confusing. Also Baris your are absolutely right about Trunk’s strength at this point. The androids are stronger then a Super Saiyan, Imperfect Cell is a lot stronger then the androids, and Semi-Perfect Cell is way way stronger then Imperfect Cell. Trunks is strong enough to basically handle Semi-Perfect Cell with ease. So at this point he completely outclasses them in every way.
I also really love that unlike the other Saiyans like Goku, Gohan, and Vegeta he doesn’t play around. We see how playing around and not finishing the job ended up so badly many times. With Goku keep giving Frieza chances, to Vegeta not finishing Semi-Perfect Cell, to Gohan not finishing Cell and instead just kept playing with him to make him suffer. All these cases came back to bite them really bad and people ended up getting killed. Trunks was not making the same mistake as the others. Just finish it and be done and let the nightmare finally be over.
Overall my favorite saga. Extremely emotional, well built story telling with every issue coming to a full circle. Every character had their shining point and at the end all the Z-fighters from the show teaming up in the final battle was just the best.
Now its on to the Buu Saga. Personally imo its definitely the weakest of the 4 sagas but its still good. I like Majin Buu as a villain and some of the fights are pretty fantastic. Vegeta also gets his best moment in the saga. However where the saga for me lacks compared to the other sagas is the story telling, writing and pacing.
Great job avoiding spoilers for her as always Baris and hope you enjoy revisiting this saga.

So just to clear up confusion- there are essentially 3 timelines in play during this saga:
1.) the main timeline (our timeline)
2.) Future Trunks timeline
3.) Cell’s timeline
We are made to believe in the beginning that Future Trunks came from the future of timeline #1 (our timeline) and he very well may have *until* he actually went back and changed the past. This created a branch in the timeline from his future (timeline #2) and our present (timeline #3). Cell comes from a completely separate timeline where Trunks already killed the androids before Cell could find them, hence why Cell was able use a time travel machine and effectively “discover” a timeline where the androids were not killed (“our” timeline).

I see Future Androids 17 and 18, as delinquents who were given immense power, but little responsibility. So to satisfy their boredom, they literally kill people for fun. It’s like playing GTA but in real life. In essence, everything they do is just a game to them, they have no ultimate objectives, they just want to have fun, but in a twisted way.
But in the main timeline, they are much different due to several factors. When they were activated, they were literally bored and had nothing else to do. But when they activated Android 16, they had something fun to do, since 16 wanted to kill Goku. 17 even admitted that finding Goku was just a game to them. Also the threat of Cell was another factor. As Cell demonstrated that there are threats much bigger than they are, and they experienced what it feels to be powerless against such threat.
The reason why cell is still there is because trunks went back to the future but 3 years earlier before he was supposed to die and because of that, that diverges yet another timeline so that’s how you have “Trunks timeline” and “cells timeline”
(Vegeta) _"But that's the thrill. Aren't you curious about this power he talks about?"_
(Trunks) _"No! I've seen it all my life! I lived through a horror a force like that creates!"_
And that's why Trunks doesn't waste time in defeating his opponents...

For all the finishing moves Vegeta throws around and all the power Goku boasts, Trunks has a body list longer than anyone else's, and he made it by just using a sword and basic energy blasts. The dude is the perfect warrior despite not being the most powerful, because he had to live through absolute hell; he knows what it means to finish fights to the end. That makes Trunks so badass.

That's what I love about trunks and why he's my favorite saiyan. He doesn't toy around with the enemy like how vegeta and Gohan does, he gets the job done quick. He thinks like a human and won't let his opponents get the upper hand some kind of way.

You got to love how easily he got rid of the androids and cell. It's satisfying after seeing the hell he went through with the androids. They are definitely more evil in his timeline. Well Trunks enjoy the overdue peace.
When trunks started cracking on cell, you could see and hear the Vegeta in him.
Also Piccolo must've told Trunks that Cell killed him and took his time machine. That's probably why he pretended to be off guard with Cell this time.
Fun fact: in the French version, Bulma is dubbed by the same person who dubs Julia Roberts. So when you watch DBZ in French it's like Julia Roberts is playing Bulma.

In the present timeline gero was aware of the Android rebellious attitude.So he makes them less evil.He tells this when he activates the Androids
I've always loved that small detail when after making Cell crispy, Trunks turns his gaze towards skies and expresses his gratitude towards Vegeta, Gohan and Goku, while the music subtly accentuates the end of a painful era and a glimmer of hope ahead. This entire arc has such a wonderful payoffs and no matter how many times you watched it, its still brings so much joy.
If only such level of writing could be seen more often nowadays....

I have a theory about why Androids 17 and 18 are so different in the future Trunks timeline than they are in the prime timeline, and why 19 and 20 seem to appear out of nowhere.
My theory? Android 19 and Dr. Gero were actually the ones who attacked the first city in the future timeline as well!
You see, none of the Z warriors were actually present when the first attack happened under the Androids. But, it WAS 17 and 18 who they eventually encountered and had killed them all. Because Androids do not emit sensable energy, it could have been some time before the heroes actually encountered whoever was destroying cities. They had similar trouble tracking down Cell when he was hiding his power level during his rampage.
But in the prime timeline, the Z Warriors were on site, and witnessed the attack. And in addition to that, they had undergone training and had prepared for this attack and were able to almost easily defeat the Androids that were present. Forcing Dr Gero to, in his own words, undergo drastic measures. That being activating Androids 17 and 18 EARLY!
It's emphasized that Dr. Gero was planning to activate them much later on, because he had already had problems with them being too rebellious. He was likely keeping them in their pods to undergo further programming to make them less human and more obedient. 17 and 18, remember, were technically cyborgs, not androids. They were originally human that Dr. Gero had made into mechanical beings, and likely resented him because of it. He also would have reduced their power while he was reprogramming them so he can more easily control them.
Had Dr. Gero not activated them so soon, they likely would have been more depowered, and less human in their tendencies, producing the cold-hearted murderers that Trunks knew all too well. The fact they killed Dr Shero anyway was just too poetic to not keep the same event. So Dr. Gero and Android 19 attack the first city, and likely others, and eventually Dr. Gero activated his next two Androids after he believed they had reached just the right amount of power and obedience to stand alongside him like 19 did. They killed him and 19 anyway, and resumed their creator's Android rampage.
Trunks assumed, since he was only a baby at the time, that from context clues and everything they though they knew, it was 17 and 18 from the beginning, when it wasn't.
So the actual specifics of why the Androids are "different" is that they actually aren't any different. The heroes just arrived earlier in the story and got a better picture of what really happened that day. And because 17 and 18 were activated early, not only were they far more powerful, they still had enough Humanity left in in them to eventually become good guys.

I felt this change was better suited. That was too dark to kill him off in the manga. Though, TFS went with the manga direction with a funny spin behind it.

Finally! After all the shit those androids put him through, he manage to exact revenge for the death of his friends and father but also make his master proud and bring peace to the world.

If you recall the androids from his timeline are weaker than the ones from the present timeline. He even comments on it in a monologue when he hears more androids showed up in this timeline versus what happened in his timeline. I think it was around the episode where Vegeta got his arm broken by 18 in the present timeline, or not long after. I think he even states later on that he thinks by Cell coming back in time to find the androids he somehow influenced or changed the work Gero performed on 17 and 18.
Long story short, these androids REALLY didn't stand a chance.
Which makes me wonder if everyone in his timeline was generally weaker. Gohan was probably a SSJ for years and couldn't beat the androids. Trunks had been a SSJ for a few years and was weaker than present SSJ Goku when they met.
I still wonder, why Trunks didn't asked his mother (no matter if it's his future or the past where most of his friends are alive) to build him a Space Ship so he could travel to New Namek and use their Dragonballs to revive everyone. And maybe taking their Dende to replace the future version of Kami with new Dragonballs for earth.
They do that in the dbz PSP game where majin buy came to his timeline love that game it's called shin budokai another road

Trunks is not like Goku and Vegeta. Goku wants to spare his opponents to be able to face them again, Vegeta loves to rage on them or let them get stronger; instead Trunks just wants to destroy them and he does it without hesitation.

My fav example of longterm writing occurs around here. At the very end after everyone goes home, Vegeta basically says he has no more reason to fight since Goku is dead. This is called foreshadowing

The main thing everyone like Trunks. He doesn’t toy with his opponents when he has the upper hand he takes it. Gohan, Goku, and especially Vegeta have it bad with playing around with their opponents. Trunks has lost a lot of friends and his dad from the Androids which give him this no mercy attitude.

Not gonna lie, when Cell is gasping in a heap at 15:17... I've always felt sorry for him in that moment. To some extent he is a victim too, of Dr. Gero. At this point in his evolution I always wonder how much of him is truly evil.

These special episodes with Trunks were some of my favorite dragon ball episodes, if not content across all the mediums used for dragon ball.
They were probably so much different just because of no contact with Cell, and the fact that Goku was already dead which was their main mission. They were kidnapped kids with a rebellious nature normally, Lazuli and Lapis are their names as humans.
Also no Android 16 who showed them how beautiful the world really is. He heavily influenced them
