I think it’s a great testament to how rich and enjoyable the Darksiders’ lore and characters are that each entry in the series was able to change the gameplay feel so much, yet still be a good game.
I just gotta disagree with the 4th game I want to know what happened to strife after the events of ds3. And if they do progress the story were just going to get told not shown plus id really like a strife centered darksiders game. It doesn't make much sense to give everyone their own time to shine in their own solo game except for strife.
I'm not opposed to a full on Strife game because I think you're right in the fact that there is a lot of information that needs to be explored before the lead up to the end of Darksiders 1. For me though, 4 just sets up the continuation of the end of 1 so perfectly that I think you could call the Strife game Darksiders... some sort of subtitle, Darksiders Strife I dunno 😂But yeah, definitely would love to see Strife get more love and his own solo experience.
@@MayorHairBear I think that actually makes sense sort if like genesis. For me personally I'd love to play a devil may cry style darksiders just because strife fits that kind of game I think plus strife is so much different from the rest of the horsemen.
@@habijjj Yeah I'd be really curious to see how someone would tackle a game about Strife, if they stick to top down or go 3d and how they make that all work because you're right, he is so different to the other horsemen. Gunfire games did create one of the first gun based souls like in Remnant... maybe that was a practice run for Strife's potential gameplay?
I couldnt play this game. Stopped after 3 levels. DS 1 was solid. DS 2 was great but very long. DS 3 is my personal favourite for the combat, but damnt the story was XD. ..... well it existed.
This is the first isometric game I've played and since it was Darksiders, I felt an obligation to play the game and mainly be done with it. By the end, I was so surprised at how enjoyable, charismatic and downright addicting the game became. Glad to see we share the same opinion. Edit: and as always, your intros are on point, genuinely I think you nail them, hope this isn't weird lmao
That was sort of the same way I felt. Playing the game because it's Darksiders but genuinely being blown away by the end. Thank you mate, always love to hear your thoughts!
Darksiders 1 and 2 were created by the same team as Genesis. Darksiders 3 was made by total different studio. Also, Darksiders 1 and 2 and Genesis are directed by the greatest character designer and most influential comic book artist of the 90s, Joe Mad. You are welcome lol
I'm a huge fan of Darksiders. The problem with it in my opinion is that what it does well, it does extremely well...and what it does bad, it does extremely bad. I genuinely adored this game. The music, banter, combat, environments were all outstanding. But there was a notable lack of polish that makes it hard for me to recommend it to others unless I feel they'll fall in love with the series. Just needed some more time in the oven.
Genesis was such a wonderful surprise for me. I was constantly amazed by how even with a new top-down perspective the game felt so in sync with the Darksiders vibe. 3 was a good game, but it always felt somewhat alien to the franchise. Genesis is the absolutely perfect blend of new mechanics and Darksiders vibe and lore. Strife and War interactions are golden. AND THAT SOUNDTRACK.
Darksiders has a heck of a problem though... Essentially they haven't progressed the story since darksiders 1.... That is an unreasonable amount of hype.. (granted, they did it to themselves) I dunno if they can do that... (remember there are 4 games, a book AND comic book runs, that were ALL either prequels or happening "concurrently", that is a LOT of "plates spinning")... There is also a discussion to be had over: if the game should just advance the story in current time, or just bring the story to a close.. I would advocate for the former rather then the latter, because it would feel "rushed"(if such could be said for a 10 year old story) to try to reunite the horsemen, tie-up their individual games' loose threads, create a playable game AND finish the series in one game.
You're preaching to the choir mate, I completely agree. I love the stories that have been told in this series don't get me wrong but it's well and truly time to progress the story
I think Darksiders 4 should be a Strife centred game, then the finale can be something like Darksiders: Apocalypse or something, something climactic that fits the theme of the horsemen. Not sure how they’d do that though with 4 characters to play, maybe something like DMC 5 with certain levels for each character but some that allow you to choose? Would ruin the interconnected world though, so it’s not an easy thing to balance. I’d love to start with Abyssal armor on all 4 though and then maybe have secret Apocalyptic armor or something for each that’s even better
5th game is where it will all come together. A story for each horsemen (even if 4 wasn't just strife) that introduces them, then 5th will be them taking on charred council and probably Lucifer
The game was great, the only thing I hated was the uber difficult platforming optional challenges like the leviathan maze ... God I wish that was done more fairly ...
Genesis is a good game me and my brother beat it in a single day. As a decent story decent graphics it's not a bad game. But this game is a prequel in the Darksiders universe so hopefully we get it we get another game about strife because we still don't know how he lost his guns in the universe cuz in Darksiders 2 we get stripes gun at the forge in the dark side 1 we get it from all thing so. If you look at that they have to make another game about strife the fourth game so we can actually understand how he lost his guns in the first place so anyway good job on the review man I've been watching all of your Darksiders videos and they're really good you did a damn good job on them keep up the good work 😤😉😎👍
Appreciate the support mate, glad you enjoyed this series it's been an absolute blast to both revisit this series and make these videos so I'm glad to hear you had a good time with them! 🙌
IMHO, Strife's gameplay loop in Genesis is solid enough to just be adapted for regular series camera. Some more melee options with his blades, and in can be fantastic DMC-like. Which wears its ranged weapons quite well.
I freaking loved DS 3. I don’t really like genesis, but I’m not into twin stick shooter type games. But I’m a fan of soulsborne So darksiders 3 was right up my alley
Well you played it for the gameplay, which is cool. But most of the returning fans play it for story and lore IMO. However I enjoyed all 4 games greatly.
I could not get my friends to even give this game a chance because they said they don't like the "diablo camera angle". I enjoyed this more than darksiders 3 and maybe having played diablo before, I had no issues getting into this game. I do hope for a 4th game where you can play as any of the four throughout the game.
Okay but we still need to have another Darksiders game because what happens after Darksiders 1? The seals were broken officially and the Horsemen were falling down to Earth, so what happens after that? This can't be the last Darksiders game.
Truly a great video a very good game. I still have to beat it myself. Hearing spiders for me isn't the same as the experience sobI definitely wanna beat it finally.
Im not entirely sure if the next game should be more like 2 or genesis, if it does have all 4 horseman I'd imagine it'd be a top down Diablo type game but i also think a standard darksiders game would also be fun as hell
I just played through this game finally, I agree with a lot of whats said in this video and it was a great game. I really enjoyed the creature core system. Its a really fun way to make intricate builds and I honestly hope it returns in the next game with even more depth. For example, with the right cores you can summon 2 shadowclones, that have explosive bullets that cause things to explode on death killing more things causing more explosions and effectively clear any area in the game. I think this system definitely plays a part in the harder difficulties and only a little in normal as you need a strong build to attempt some of the harder challenges. I hated Astarte, because when she is on her last bit of health she summons endless angles that practically instantkill you and your only real option is to get on the horse and avoid them while taking out Astarte. However, if the angels hit you, your horse goes down and you go down soon after because its hard to get away from the angels attacks in the time that it takes for the horse to return. Throughout the fight you're expected to take out the enemies so you can go back to focusing on Astarte, but the last round is flipped so its not obvious what you should do, and even if you do the right thing you can get randomly hit by and angel, die and have to start all over again. The VO in that fight is also really repetitive and somewhat buggy.
28:38 For that attack, I believe you can actually destroy his crystals with some of your attacks. Haven't played in a while, but I'm fairly certain I remember doing it during the fight, although I don't remember exactly how to. Edit: I believe it was with the Tremor Gauntlet that War has, as the crystals seem the same as others you can destroy with it.
I do wish my gamingSoul could enjoy top down games but I just can’t. Played like three hours of this off gamepass but maybe I’ll try it again someday. Amazing franchise though
To me, Genesis was entertaining, but not “fun” The combat was engaging once you get the hang of it, and exploring all the nooks and crannies to find those sweet sweet secrets was definitely enticing…. But the story felt so empty. Just constant teasing on Strife’s backstory without ANY real give, dragging in the main quest story, and what feels like the devs saying “isnt strife cool? You want a solo game with him? No promises” I did play it to completion, but i needed more than a tease on the lore
It was a decent game, but I would have much preferred a real DS-Strife game. I think they kind of screwed Strife out of his installment. I don't think any of them compare to Darksiders 1. It was by far my favorite, and I would argue most people's favorite game. I would have liked to have seen a Strife Game more like that but with Gunplay instead of Melee Play. Darksiders 2 was decent and enjoyable. I thought the 3rd game sucked. I have all the games, Love the Lore.
EVERY game was different, and I like that! Makes it feel more unique to the Horseman. Yes I know War is in Genesis, but he’s not meant to be the “main” character of the game.
I agree that this game gave me the feeling of a Darksiders game more than 3, the third game isn't bad but falls flat in comparison to the first two games. I thought the same when I saw the gameplay of Genesis "What the hell is this?!" after finishing the first two games, but the experience I got from this game while playing co-op with a friend really felt good and enjoyable. I only hope for them is to give us a Strife standalone game in order to explain and reveal how his guns were in the first two games and reached to the hands of his brothers (War and Death), it feels like something is missing in the timeline we don't know about yet since THQ Nordic's original plan was to create a standalone game for each horseman. I hope that happens before we get the finale of the series
Moloch is the best boss for me because he the chad way to beat you , how do he deal with your chaos form? Do he run? Do he use some kind of tactic to stall you ? no , he stay right in front of you and keep smack in you , he never flinch and is always on your ass , making sure you feel the 'stats check' every time you die , truly the chad way to beat the player.
But, the Lucifer's plot and Samule and Abaddon are the MOST important things is the game! You think people want to play some generic top down shooter??? 🤣
I'm really glad I decided to get back to Darksiders, and went from the disappointment that is 3 to THIS, because I went from,"What a shallow experience" to,"Oh my god, I love this!" Seriously, 3 needed a heavier dose of RPG elements. I didn't much care for the change in the combat, either. It's just too wildly different for my taste. It's a great game, but a poor Darksiders. Yeah, when I think Darksiders, I think what we get in 1, 2, and Genesis. Now I'm not sure which one is actually my favorite... It's between 2 and this one. I'm over 45 hours into Genesis now, by the way.
Hey Mayor, I was wondering if you could maybe take a look at a classic Telltale game. Maybe The Walking Dead or Wolf Among Us? Both of them are gems imo
I can definitely do that, I've been thinking about it for some time the only question is when. I leave the games I cover up to the fans but I might try to work in either series some time soon
so i 100 procented the game including the leviathans trials - the crystals you can use your gauntlet on it to make them explode with war to create space
This game is a blast with a friend, and the puzzles are so fun. 7 hours right now and for me a solid 9/10, may or may not change when I complete it. Edit: And this game made me buy Darksiders 1 and 2.
We need a Strife only game, Genesis is a prequel to the first Darksiders and we need a game where we see how Strife got to earth and what happened to him after Darksiders 3, after that a game with all four Horsemen..
It'd be interesting if Darksiders 4 was somewhat like Metroid Prime and by that I mean a first person shooter with puzzles and metroidvania-like progression. Maybe a 3rd person shooter with faster paced combat like Vanquished ?
26:06 Not to be the douche here, but isn't his size deceptive, not his speed? I mean, what does it mean, to be deceptively quick, doesn't it mean that he is in truth slow then?
Yeah it's a tricky one because if you say deceptively intelligent it means someone who appears... well stupid but isn't but apparently there is some debate over deceptively quick. Probably should have just gone with surprisingly quick 😂
I disagree that the platforming was well-done. The characters feel heavy and slippery, the wings and hooks may refuse to work because reasons. The camera is angled so jumping straight is unnecessarily difficult (jump on a pole to climb it is a whole another challenge for some reason because you have to be pixel perfect to grab anything). Platforming sections were one of the most annoying parts for us. Not sure if you mentioned local co-op anywhere but it is also not well made. The screen is fixed-split, good luck fighting on those giant arenas with projectiles flying around when you can see only a thin section. Also good luck with platforming when you can barely see the goal to jump/fly to. Local co-op summoning is not designed well, if I play with someone, I shouldn't have to make them wait till I get to the summoning stone, they should be able to join right away (this basically forces you to complete a chapter in one sitting because of how scarce the summoning points are). Somewhere during the first few chapters we were trying to fight the Houndmaster side-boss, we were losing a lot so we decided to give it a break. Coming back to the game the next day, the main player is in the area with the Houndmaster, no summoning stone nearby and CANNOT leave the side-boss area without defeating the boss. Had to watch him beat the boss without me. For a game that seems designed for multiplayer, they did not think it through.
I bought this at the end of last year, but I've not played it yet. I thought it was going to be an ARPG, but it's not apparently. I love ARPG's. Still looks good though, will have to fire it up some time over the Summer and see what it's like... I've not played the other games in the series though, so should I watch some kind of recap first?
Was playing it as I listened to this video, it’s still that good. I find it more in line with games like Doom Eternal and DreadKnight for Darksiders fans. Lite playforming, stellar combat, and there’s lore if you want it. Also I didn’t know where to go during that fight either so fuck ‘em 😂
MayorHairBear : I disagree with u about this game, I want to see Strife in a game like Death in Darksiders 2, I mean i want to play Doom series with Strife with all the latest developments in gaming area like open world , Zelda like puzzles , awesome dungeons and sceneries with outstanding music as background score. This game as a game does not disappoint its actually quite fun like Torchlight but when u play Darksiders2 ( a Darksiders game ) u need to feel free, here in Genesis, Players do not even get move their camera angle and also its not a pc game well u can play on pc but on pc u will curse the developers for sure when u play puzzles. Strife should get his own ' Darksider 'game, he could be like Doom or Prototype or Saints Row.... IDK. So if this game is underrated then i will not protest against it cause its a Darksiders game and Developers should listen to Fans, and Make game like Darksiders2 ( A game made by Gamers for Gamers ).
i really wish darkside came back and became a full blown arpg with the isometric perspective.. it would be epic, i believe the 3rd one wasn't made by airship thats why it sucked
i want a strife game sam 3 persen over the sholder stelf game and then a darcksiders finaly game big open wold game multiplayer coop weth arkam night fiting coop jugals
Ha, dark sider Genisis is trash, you get less combos, and less ability to experiment making the game only limited to you doing the simple combos and abilities that they felt like making for you. They severly cut back on replayability, and made the whole game into a chore rather than something you do for fun. Glad that I played this garbage on game pass, and didn't invest money into it. Not even to mention that you already know how the story ends for strife, since he does not reappear in any of the other games, because this is before all the other events. So your not learning anything at all about the game and it's universe. Ontop of the fact that they are not going to make more games like this. So if you fell in love with this style of game, they have been planning to say fk you since this game's conception.
Ngl I've never even gotten my DT in a darksiders game. All those zelda dungeons just take me out of it before I get that far. Idk why I'm on this video

Genesis is a weird one. You'd think it would at least be a 3rd person shooter. They definitely know how to make one
All the games had issues.
That said? I had fun
Darksiders 4 could be a cover shooter or a first person shooter, I'd be happy with either direction.

i got stuck on lighting 4 bonfires for a mission spent to much time trying to find them never did and stopped playing
Obviously I’d love a true darksiders 4 first but I’d be so down for another story like genesis but with fury and death
Imagine a strife stand-alone game with gameplay like war frame.
That would be awesome!
But, the Lucifer's plot and Samule and Abaddon are the MOST important things is the game! You think people want to play some generic top down shooter??? 🤣
Never played this... But im intrigued
I was playing this with my bro the other day, reminded me of Diablo3
This game is a blast with a friend, and the puzzles are so fun. 7 hours right now and for me a solid 9/10, may or may not change when I complete it.
Edit: And this game made me buy Darksiders 1 and 2.
Alright, I'm convinced. I thought it was going to be a crappy Diablo ripoff but you've convinced me to give it a fair shot.
Hell yeah mate, I hope you enjoy it! 🙌
Really wish they would make a darksiders with strife, but that played more like 3
i realy like if you made a halo saga retrospesctive to campaign to multiplayer
I will get to Halo at some point but just not quite yet, I replayed them all a little too recently!
I wish we got a Death dlc.
Death got his own game. I want a 5th game with all 4 horsemen. Its long overdue!
Are there any news on Darksiders 4?
I don't believe so yet
I bought this at the end of last year, but I've not played it yet. I thought it was going to be an ARPG, but it's not apparently. I love ARPG's. Still looks good though, will have to fire it up some time over the Summer and see what it's like... I've not played the other games in the series though, so should I watch some kind of recap first?
This is a prequel story so you should be able to walk straight into Genesis no dramas
@@MayorHairBear thanks.
How do you get through chapter 11
Dis is THICC.
I hate that you are right..
good game, it sucks this isn`t darksiders 4...but let hope that game will came
Darksiders 4 has to happen!
i really wish darkside came back and became a full blown arpg with the isometric perspective.. it would be epic, i believe the 3rd one wasn't made by airship thats why it sucked
having darksiders 1,2 fizical on ps3 i both the digital vrerjen of ps4 ons and the fizical ps4 of geneses
I bought this after playing diablo 4, and like it a lot better then d4.
Tried tomlove it so hard…
Kinda an unrelated topic but if they somehow didn't name Darksiders 4 something like "Darksiders 4: Horsemen", I ain't buyin' it.
100% 😂
i want a strife game sam 3 persen over the sholder stelf game and then a darcksiders finaly game big open wold game multiplayer coop weth arkam night fiting coop jugals
Thank you for the spoiler warning!
I hate puzzles. So the less the better.
I jst got this game on sale on my switch, and i just want to say what a sick ass game it is🔥 Get it rightnow! Its like 15$ or 10$ its on sale for another couple days!!
