    Hi Ray, on your last question even though the option wasn't there, I was thinking the symptoms were schizophreniform because the decreased mood and lack of interest is also part of the negative symptoms of all 4 isn't it? I thought okay, it's been two months which is more than 30 days but less than 6 months of his decreased mood, but then he's also having hallucinations for 3 weeks. I am not sure what threw me off but something did. If it were schizophreniform then the hallucinations would've been consistent right? Since it was 3 weeks then it would be schizoaffective because MDD is the primary affect? Thank you for these videos btw! God Bless you!

    • @raytubelcsw
      @raytubelcsw  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, Lakesha!
      Schizophrenia and Schizoaffective = Psychotic Disorder.
      According to NAMI,
      “Schizoaffective disorder is a chronic mental health condition characterized primarily by symptoms of schizophrenia, such as hallucinations or delusions, and symptoms of a mood disorder, such as mania and depression.”

    Wanted to also give a quick shout out, passed my LCSW boards yesterday. Your videos have been instrumental in helping with recall and ability to think through various concepts for medication, diagnoses, defense mechanisms, etc. I appreciate your perspectives and insights, it was encouraging in this video at the end, you sharing the focus being studying, getting the information and being done with the exams. Time to put it behind and get on with what's next. Thanks again Rayshawn!

    Thank you so much for all your helpful videos! I’m confused re the exam ? with the 32 y o man who had depressive symptoms first and then psychotic symptoms. I would think that would be mdd with psychotic symptoms since the mdd came first. Can you explain again why it’s schizoaffective disorder instead?

    Hello. RayTube. My question to your practice question shown in this video: Could I say that Schizoaffective does not consider psychotic or mood systems as the primary or secondary order? Many thanks.

    So for the last question the patient reported having a depressed mood within the span of the past two months but the only isolated and exclusive presentation was the visual hallucinations for 3 weeks. I was thinking that would mean there was depression for at least five weeks then out of that 2 month period which would make the diagnosis depression with psychotic features but you’re saying the diagnosis is schizoaffective because the hallucinations were experienced alone and for a period of 3 weeks. The presentation of depression isn’t established as a diagnosis with the info provided in the question.

    • @raytubelcsw
      @raytubelcsw  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey, Sarah,
      The first sentence states, "A 32 year-old man meets with a social worker due to seeing shadow figures (visual hallucinations) and having a decreased mood (depression) within the past two months.
      Both symptoms of schizophrenia and a mood disorder were occurring at this time within the past two months so it's speaking to Schizoaffective disorder.
      Keep in mind, the exam is not going to list every single criteria for the disorder.
      The questions also states, "During those three weeks, the man confirmed his visual hallucinations were the only symptoms present at that time."
      With that being said, there wasn't a time when the man ONLY experienced MDD. The symptoms of MDD were never isolated by themselves and were only present while ALSO experiencing symptoms of schizophrenia.
      Because of that, the answer is Schizoaffective disorder.
      Hope this helps!
