@@GenevieveThornton soo long lol but i cracked down on my studying like studied like 2-3 months ago tbh because i have test anxiety. I also used LEAP study book which actually had more than the Dawn Apgar. Ultimately for the DSM stuff i relied on Rays guide. So i like read thru and took important notes on each guide (3 of them) and then did 2+ questions a day like ray recommended. But again i get nervous and go blank. I wish i had did more practice test cuz i was tired in there after 100 questions

I think the issue with those who struggle to understand this comes from labling. Positive/Negative are words that carry a conotation to them of being representative of Good/Bad. However, they way they are being described here is not that case. Negative Reinforcement, for example, is not bad, or wong. As you say in the video, it is not punishment. Negative Reinforcement is actually a rather good, or positive thing that is happening. If I got negatively reinforced at work, and had less of a work load to do because of it, my job would ultimately get easier which is a good, or positive thing. Its a small difference between the common definition, and the academic definition. I believe the true words we are looking for to describe this are: Additive & Subtractive. These are additive and subtractive properties, not morally good or bad ones. Whether the actions are benificial or unbenifcial to the personal interst of the one being conditioned, operates independantly from if whether the action consist of adding or subtracting factors from their personal life. If we called it Additive Punishment/Reinforcement & Subtractve Punishment/Reinforcement, I think the meanings of these concepts would get more clearly convayed to lay people. While academically we might be using positive/netgative to mean add or subtract, such at in maths, the typical non-academic meaning tends to conflate those terms to mean good and bad outcomes, or to be of moral determination, when in fact there is no moral action tied into the types of conditioning.

I think it easy for me to look at how the parent word it. For instance,
    if child misbehave =punishment
if child do cont. to do good= reinforce
    Take chore away = negative
    Add chore = positive
I hope this is the right concept 🤔 What you think?

  • @LisaCollins-n5t

    Hi Ray,
In Question #3 in your "Positive & Negative Reinforcement" video you give us the correct answer "Positive Reinforcement" with an amazing explanation BUT give the incorrect corresponding letter choice of "A". I'm sure this was an honest mistake. Your videos and descriptions are so great I figured you'd want to fix that letter choice to your correct explanation/answer of "D" which corresponds with the correct answer of "positive reinforcement".
