I remember being amazed by signwriters when I was an apprentice motor mechanic in Frinton, decades ago! What a great job you've made of the hull Sam, what a transformation, well done!
Topsides look great and the hand-painted names are awesome! The molded line along the sheer is usually called the cove stripe. Be careful with those hasps for the cockpit locker. If you’re working down in there the lid could close shut and lock you in there.
Really interesting to see how this paint job has gone and she's looking good!! I had a signwriter in Woodbridge in 1988 when Greenwitch was launched at Robertsons. He was fairly elderly even then. Watching him work was fascinating and a real lesson in craftsmanship. Twentytwo years later I had the hull painted and the same guy came back and wrote her name again - still just as good even at his then considerable age!! Very much enjoying your vlogs.
Looking good, sign writer did a cracking job. Used vinyl for mine which 5 years down the line is starting to look ropey. Was hoping to get a few bits done of mine this week too as off work but these low temps have put pay to that! Its come on so suddenly unfortunately. At least we are not covered in snow like the top half of the country.
Hi Sam, that line in the hull below the toe rail/rubbing strake is called the cove line, the "modern" way of sign writing seems to be vinyl computer cut stick on system rather than proper sign writing ,if you compare the 2 options side by side the the hand painted system wins every time Walking back from the pub in 13deg in a t shirt and not feeling to cold!!?, I have been bitching and moaning all day because the temp dropped to 26deg and I wanted to wash my boat (south australia) Don't forget the tenths rule if it looks good at 10 paces in the boat yard it will look 10 times better in the water
Not being a local.. I managed to fall into the Grindle on my way home from the Sailing Club while the tide was very high last weekend!! The ground just disappeared from under me.. lol
Well done on getting your topsides painted. One question, in rolling it by hand with foam rollers, what is the finish like, ie. how glossy is it and did you get an orange peel or really smooth finish? I think at some stage you are going to need to get on with restoring all your timber brightwork, and when you do, have you figured out what finish product to use. There are so many options out there in the market place. Everything from the likes of Epiphanes to Silkens Cetol marine, let alone the likes of your more traditional spar marine varnishes.
Gloss came out good, there is a slight orange peel but not much, the amount of thinner used helped I think. The foam rollers work really well I found. Thanks for watching
Nice one Sam. Prepping our boat before Christmas, then painting before she goes in, in the spring. May I ask where you got the Jotun paint and supplies from? Also that line you were referring to is the cove line.
Great progress, paint looks amazing. Any plans for your deck? I have similar deck to deal with so interested if you have any approach or plans. Cheers.
You've been lucky with the weather that's for sure, it's not been a great one but it seems to have lasted through autumn. She's looking good from ground level now, but that deck is giving me the chills, hope all the paints as lose as it looks. Keep em coming fella.
Sign writing absolutely brilliant, really sets the boat off
She's looking AMAZING !! Well done....as for the sign writing...stunning ❤
The sign writing was excellent and the bird was a nice touch. I'd be very happy with it.
Thanks for reminding me that I need to get a smaller boat when I go to buy. Bugger painting a 32 footer 😅
Nice one Sam, she's looking good. I enjoyed the Sign writer segment. Cheers.
Great job! Especially that sign writer you don't find craftsmanship like that easily these days
Well done, lucky you doing this in november!
Lovely work!

I think standing a foot away from it time can drive you mad, I didn't account the beer insulation factor on the way back from the pub.

Looking good Sam. Any plans for next year???? Or even this winter???
The refurb will be taking up much of this winter and into the spring given, definitely plans for next year though
Hi Sam, any reason you have moved away from the Hebridean?
Hebridean is a good unit, just found the windpilot at auction online at a good price.
@ let me know if you would like to sell the Hebridean. I think it may work nicely on my Seacracker 33
Are you in the top field at King's Sam?
Yeah top yard
