    Thanks for the video.... I ended up doing this but after I replaced the sensor twice....
    I have the 2010 hybid. I replaced the sensor with one from Rock Auto. An aftermarket one. It worked for a few seconds and then was intermittent again working and not working, jittering, and the steering was off center. Also, the steering wheel was easier to turn ( too much assist ) to the left than the right. Then it went back to being stiff all the time. I heard that if you use a ford part it would work. So I got the part number and ordered the ford part from rock auto. It worked perfectly for like about a day and then went back to being stiff. I recalibrated, checked the battery etc. and checked codes again. I got a code saying that there was no communication with the steering controller. I ended up getting a used motor with controller from a junk yard that included the steering sensor in the shaft and installing it. It's been perfect for about 3 months now. I opened the old steering controller to see if there was something burned out or if a cable was corroded or something but everything looked fine.... I don't know why communication was lost

    Yup, dropped 200 bones on the torque sensor and that didn't fix the issue.
    Now it looks like I'm dropping a G on this unit.
    Brilliant. Thanks for posting this video, though bud. 👍
    At least I know what direction to go in now.

    Apparently, if the steering wheel keeps moving back and forth on its own like it is possessed (puts out a B2278 code), then replacing the torque sensor alone should fix the problem. However, a failure without those symptoms is usually caused by a power steering control module or motor failure and will require replacing the steering column as shown in the video.

    I am changing mine right now. However, the rack and pinion doesn't line up. Can I just grap the piece on the new module and turn it? I am afraid of damaging the torque sensor. So if not that do I jack the car up and turn the wheels until the rack and pinion line up? I know this thread has been up for a while. Hoping this works. Thanks for the video, you got me this far!

      Once you pull the steering wheel and power steering assembly off, the new one should slide right back into place. The steering wheel will only fit into shaft one way. Try turning the steering wheel 90 or 180 degrees before sliding it onto the shaft.

    Hey buddy what if ive figured out from this video...and many other videos....that it's just the motor gone bad?...never had the possessed shaky wheel, ive pulled a few panels and can reach the electric motor....is it possible to just replace that?...from what I understand, I'm one step ahead of where you were at....after the recall on the pscm I figured it was the torque sensor...your video led me to believe otherwise, then I realised after checking fuses, it's got to be the motor....and I can access it without tearing the column apart...i believe.

    • @rogerwilson2147
      @rogerwilson2147  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was really easy to pull the steering column. I'm not a mechanic and didn't want to spend the money to take it to the a shop. For me it was just easier to buy the entire column. It came with a new sensor and motor.

      I'm a single full time father, and the whole column used is 250...and the motor....from what ive read on a 4 year old forums is 80 and would not require tearing it down.....if I can save myself the dough ive got to try...ive also read that people screw up installing the torque sensor and wind up replacing the whole column, then selling their old spent column on eBay....so I'm Leary, a new one is 1200 and that ain't happening...i really appreciate your time and getting back with me on 3 year old video...cant tell you how much I appreciate that.

    My power steering slowly went out, it started with the wheel phantom shaking at park and threw a code B2278 so I replaced sensor in mine and still says power assist fault with no power steering but the phantom shake went away. Thinking about replacing column instead now hope that does it. Is it just mainly two bolts holding the column on? Was it hard to get off and on

    • @rogerwilson2147
      @rogerwilson2147  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      changed out the sensor and the steering wheel started locking up again after 2 days. So after doing more research I figured out it was the motor. Wasted $150 on the sensor. when you buy the motor from Ford it comes with a new sensor. Shop around I got my senor from a ford dealership in Daytona , Fl. which is about 300 miles away. the dealers in my area charged $120 more.

    So if after installing a new torque sensor, the wheel is still hard to turn....is that a motor problem? Or does that sound like something else????
    In the beginning the wheel was shaking ....I parked it and turned it off...went to start it back up and drive it- but noticed the wheel suddenly became hard to turn......

    • @rogerwilson2147

      So I too wasted money by buying just the sensor. Same thing happened to me. It worked for about two days and started shaking again. Like I said in the video just buy the motor. It comes with the sensor already installed. I had to check four or five ford dealers in order to find the cheapest one. Also if you have a LKQ in your area, you can pull one off in about 10-15 minutes. Watch the video to see the tools you need.
