Dimensionally, the weird looks are for these reasons. The grip is G17 length, but the slide is G19 length. The barrel is only 4.5" because of the extended length from the threaded barrel. The slide is roughly the same length as a G19.
They should come with (1) 17rd mag and (2) 24rd mags. Also, I paid $750/shipped before the panic BS. Not a bad gun with the threaded barrel, suppressor night sights and milled for an RMR. I don’t know man. The USP and Glock I think are the best. Glock gives you parts commonality and ease of use with no safety and a milled slide for a red dot. The USP is mythical in its reliability made by perhaps the best small arms manufacturer.
@@CaptainCreampie69 usp is kinda outdated but i agre the glock is a better value and the afterparket has updated the optic plate. Easier to get holsters and after market parts

Yep 1050 MSRP is too much. That's why dealers are selling it for 900. Also the gun comes with 1 × 17 round mag and 2 x 24 round mags. It ships with suppressor height trijicon sights which co-witness with most optics. Threaded CHF barrel - and FN's barrels are outstanding. The main feature is the modular optics system. It allows departments that don't allow optics plate mods to get a factory warranteed gun that handles multiple optics choices right out of the box instead of custom machining a slide for one type and possibly voiding the warranty. Yes it has a duty or combat trigger that gritty as hell but has a clean break. I replaced the striker on mine proactively with an Apex HD unit and polished the inside of the striker before installing it. Makes a big difference. Is it aftermarket-good? No... but it's way better than it was. Not sayin' you should buy it though. I suspect you're used to slicker guns. I bought mine cuz it's tan. That's important. One thing though... having the same gun and seeing you holding one - I never realized your hands are that small dude, LOL...
I love my FN’s. I was a big Glock person and was ready to move and I bought a 320x5 beretta 92x, cz sp01. I wasn’t sure what I wanted I just knew I was tired of Glocks. My girlfriend bought a 509t. She just really liked it. At first I wasn’t impressed I thought the trigger was horrible and I wanted no part of it. Well then time went on I got lots of trigger time on all of them eventually the 320 x5 got sold the cz got sold and the beretta ended up in the back of the safe in never never land and lone behold I ended up with a LS edge (spoiler I love king slide guns) well then shortly after I ended up with my own 509t, and it got a pmm comp and an apex trigger and some other stuff, and then another 509t showed up and then a 509 compact showed up and now a 545 tactical. Lonebehold now I have several of them. I really love them. Oem triggers aren’t great no doubt. I’ll say they do get WAY better with 1,000 rounds through them. And some are just better out for he box. My LS Edge is one of my favorite triggers. For some reason my compact has such a nice trigger I’ve yet to change it the other 509s all have apex triggers. The guns just run! And really when you break down value it’s decent. For example a mos gen 5 is about 699-799. The sights are trash so sights are 99-149, the Glock isn’t treaded so that’s another 200, the oem mounting plate is trash so aftermarket is 100ish well now we’re 1100-1200 in a Glock and still have an oem trigger 😂 the fn has good sights suppressor springs treaded hood optic system ect. My first round pick is always a good 2011 if I’m going striker fired it’s fn all day long. They just grow on you! Especially after a comp and trigger job!
How do you manipulate controls on a pistol that's not ambi when off/weak hand training regardless which hand you shoot with? IMO guns that aren't ambi are incomplete.
FN must have heard what you said about the trigger, because they now send it out with a flat faced trigger. Put some time into polishing the parts with some Flitz polishing compound, and you have a smooth operator. LAPD is now issuing the 509 MRD LE, which is the same as the 509T, minus the threaded barrel. I also added a flared mag well, and will be getting the FN Rush 9 Ti suppressor (as soon as ATF clears the Form 4)
I have the mid size mrd version. It’s a great gun, well built and very accurate. Trigger is a bit heavy but crisp and breaks in well. Price is more reasonable, think around 650? Prefer the m&p 2.0 grip in my hand, and glock is still my go-to workhorse. Hard to find the perfect handgun. Actually no, it’s not. DW ECO for carry, and a Triarc tri-11 for home defense.
I bought my FNX 45 standard from pistol parlor in Arizona I love it and I also just picked up an FNX 9 and I am now going to have to go back and pick up an FNX 509 tactical thank you for your honest review
I just bought the 509t on gunprime for 899 after shipping. I was gonna out the apex trigger in it but, 1) it's my first gun and I wanted to get used to it as it is and 2) I am not very mechanically inclined and don't want to mess my gun up trying to "fix" it. I watched the you tube videos on how to put it in. But, I may try to find someone in Washington state that would help me.
I just installed the MCarbo spring kit in my 509 Tactical for $20 and it definitely improved the trigger. Much cheaper and easier than installing the $150 Apex trigger. Problem solved! No more complaints.
@@chltmdwp So, I ended up selling it. The MCarbo kit lightened the pull weight by an estimated half, but was still fairly heavy. I was hoping the trigger would eventually smooth out, but it still remained really gritty after a few hundred rounds after kit installation. Reliability was still good.
I have over a dozen pistols and that 509T is one of my favs. Over 1300 rounds. I’ve since add a comp, magwell, light and swapped optics but I enjoy it so much I bought the 509c as a carry. FN is very pricey but they look cool asl, come well equipped for the price and they run all day
just got one as well. Put a holoson on it, Apex trigger, apex heavy duty striker, and now i’m figuring out what comp to get. So far i put 300 rounds in and it runnssss
Hello 1911SYNDICATE, Ruger released Ruger-57 5.7x28mm -Centerfire Pistol and it is much more affordable( MSRP: $799.00). Just a suggestion to maybe do a comparison presentation in the future of both guns. I wonder what would be your preference? Cheers.
If you buy a glock 19, how much it cost to upgrade, barrel, Suppressor night high Sights, cut the slide for front serrations, cut the slide to accommodate like 8 different red dots system, paint in the pandemic? Even without pandemic? So please, do the math. Again, great review, but if you can't or don't want to pay for it, that's ok, there is a lot other cheap options out there. Did I mention that you need to upgrade the trigger of the glock too? And, if you upgrade the glock trigger to ANY third party, none of them will be better than the Apex trigger in the 509. Btw, I'm not a fan of FN cause I have BOTH system and I can tell you that glock is a good system for $500 but FN 509 Tactical it is a great system for the cost. Btw, I never heard anybody paying $1040. Maybe I'm wrong, but I bought mine in the pandemic for $780. If you want, you can try mine. I have it with rmr trijicon version 2, apex trigger, mcarbo spring kit,, pmm compensator and the olight pro. My glock 19 have all the upgrades too and I prefer my FN. Do your research and do it right and don't cry for $300 more, cause at the end you will paid more than that on a glock. Believe me, been there, done that. Love from the Caribbean!
I have the original 509 and as soon as the 24 round mag became available I picked one up. The 24 rounder compliments my 17 rounder very well because it's my spare carry mag. I agree the trigger could be better, but I was ok with it. However I recently ordered the Apex Action Enhancement trigger and also pre-ordered the all new 509 Longslide with the threadless 5 inch barrel. My only nit pick of the 509 was that the stock barrel and slide were too short. Gr8 honest review. 🔫 🇺🇸
Anyone considering this firearm should look at the new changes FN has made for it. I picked the tactical up for 850 the other day that came with 4 of the 24 round mags and the shipped standard mag. IMO one of the best pistols on the market if you're shopping 9mm.
If FN would make the FN 503 triggers for all platforms especially the tactical versions would be amazing try the 503 it’s amazing too shoot because of its trigger
Out the door price of an FDE Glock 17 MOS is $745. No threaded barrel. No suppressor height sights to co-witness with optic (that it's milled for). You're over $1,000 just for those two upgrades. Lastly, you compare MSRP of the 509 Tactical to "out-the-door" pricing of an MOS, who does that? The actual going price of a 509 Tactical is $899 on the same website. Good luck finding a good threaded Glock barrel and suppressor height sights for $150 all together.
Getting ready to trade my 509ct for a 19x MOS. I’ve had the 509 for 2 years and it is an absolutely gorgeous gun and has everything you need for your ideal set up out the box. My issue is my ability to mitigate recoil, I don’t have an issue with this on a Glock. Mine has the apex tactical trigger and heavy duty striker.. and I cannot enjoy the trigger over these past 2 years. My buddy has a Glock 45 with a performance trigger and my grouping was super tight and the trigger felt amazing. I paid $600 for the whole package which is a GREAT price for what it included. Is it worth more than $600 stock? Nah. I would pay $500 for a stock FN considering the upgrades it NEEDS.
Absolutely love this pistol. It then again I’m picking it up for 899 right now. Threw a holosun 507c on it and man o man I ended up getting another one just to have one I can shoot iron sites for idpa lol favorite.. second favorite is Glock 17.
Never paid msrp for an fn so that means nothing to me. I don't think glock (as your benchmark) should be 650 either. I remember 375-425 and what's honestly improved? You pay for MOS, Trij, threads...etc. if you want those things, the fn is available for a fair price and red to rock out the box. 509 trigger breaks in after a few hundred rounds. By then you should operate without whatever slide lock issue you were creating. I don't follow how you did that and got a 'click' without being in battery.
I have the FN 509 Tactical Mods equipped: - Apex trigger & Apex sear -M-carbo music wire lighter springs -OLIGHT PL-Pro Valkyrie or FN special Streamlight TLR-7A Tactical Light -TRIJICON Amber12.9MOA Dual illuminated RMR - 509 Tactical WAR Compensator -Custom anime (Mikasa Ackerman) aluminum back plate -Gen 2, 24-round magazine sleeves (it's all on solid piece) (Note: mixing Apex & M-Carbo makes the trigger EXTREMELY light but MAY cause reliability issues & random multiple shots with one press. Both companies say don't mix them. You can call and verify but I didn't care. Best used with soft primer ammunition) Overall I love it so much.
@@boomee78 I've already ran a test with them alone with the standard trigger and sear. M-Carbo was extremely reliable and still lightening the trigger a very noticeable amount. It was about 400 or so rounds of American eagle synthetic. Not issue. Same thing when I put the Apex trigger and Apex sear then put back the factory springs back in. It ran extremely reliable. No problem. 200 rounds. It only started having slight issues when they were combined. The biggest one is the random multiple shots with one trigger press (pinned to rear.. it stops on it's own). So with my test and experience. I can honestly say both companies were telling the truth about having them both combine. They're perfect by themselves but do not mix them together
I got a couple light primer strikes on cheap Turkish ammo after installing the apex trigger and sear (didn’t change any springs) and apex striker. I saw you said best used with soft primer ammo... why is that? What causes the issue with harder primers?
@@bengrove2691 yep! I don't run steel case or anything cheap in build. For practice ammo I use federal syntech & interceptor frangible range ammo +P. For carrie use I use interceptor defense rounds +P. I never had a light primer strike using those. You may need the heavy duty Apex striker. It has a little bit more mass
@@Division_Agent_ hey thanks! I usually wouldn’t by anything imported but it was all I could find at the time. I have actually installed the apex striker and it’s bone dry and clean, so it leads me to believe it’s more of an ammo issue. Thanks!
I agree trigger isn't that good especially before broken in. However , you can get the gun for about $950 OTD add $25 for trigger spring kit and you're good. Also the gun comes with the mounting plates and screws for a number of MRDs and the 24rd mag is a bonus IMO. So for less than $1k (including the spring kit) I think it's a very strong contender at that price for anyone wanting an out of the box MRD ready gun with a threaded barrel and suppressor height night sights and 24rd capacity. Thanks for the review.
While I had no interest in this firearm at $800+, but earlier this year I was able to snag one for $640 with the Streamlight TL7A promo... I truly enjoy it and have had numerous friends pick up this pistol during the “sale” pricing earlier this year.
@@1911syndicate yes, but if I am able I will take advantage to try something I otherwise would bypass. Overstock and clearance deals can be beneficial sometimes. Unfortunately the good deals do not come up too often...
I can see where he's coming from on all his points. I carry a 509mrd. While he ain't wrong there's just something about the 509 that makes it an awesome shooter for me. How ever I did notice my stock trigger is worlds better than my buddy's stock 509 trigger. Very strange.
I have 3 of these and all were purchased between $600 and $700. For what you actually pay, you get a lot for a polymer firearm. The MSRP you keep talking about is not an accurate street price. Do you pay the sticker price on a car? Anyway, best red dot mounting system I have come across and it does not need stippling at all. The slide stop issue is true, I hit it all the time, had to adjust my grip. I put MCARBO kits in two,, and an Apex in another, the 509 midsized MRD I have came with a better trigger out of the box. Not sure why, but it is. I get it though, I am still trying to like my Beretta APX combat. Even with mods I just cannot get into it. But yea, you can get these for between 6 and 7 hundred. Well worth it.
I love mine , problem with that is its as far from stock as it could get. Trigger was trash , swapped it for the apex set up , PPM comp, I lapped and polished everything even the springs. It's never had a jam or something go wrong. Just me tho you spend a grand you should get a gun with at least a decent trigger .
Nate wahl its more of a polishing job but there is a few spots to lap. The rails that the slide rides on weren't all 100% even. So I hit them with a extra fine grit stone until they all were flat as possible without removing to much material, then any area that had any uneven wear patterns. Then polished every moving part and any part that touches another . Took it from 600 grit thru 10000 grit polishing paper. Then just got a dremal with the felt pads and some high end polishing compound that leaves a protective coating on the metal that resist corrosion . Every thing is at a mirror polishing. Which i would say isn't necessary but if your gonna do a polish job might as well go a little over board hahaha
Tactical Considerations figured out why the trigger was so gritty and has a video on his channel to fix it. Still not the best trigger but you can improve the stock trigger
Have the Glock 19x. Added threaded barrel and suppressor sights. Have the Fn 509 Tactical with aTrijicon RMR06. No other upgrades on either. When it comes down to having to pick one or the other, I pick the FN. Difficult decision, as both are fine pistols. For me, the FN grip suited me best over the Glock grip angle. Probably, because I am a huge 1911 fan. It just felt better shooting. And, I like my 19x. Fine shooter. FN just has that slight personal edge over the Glock. And, I do EDC the FN.
As much as I love the color and design.... After what you said bout the price and how the trigger goes.. Meh.... I still will stick with my 1911... The APEX flat trigger upgrade on this gun makes it SO much better. It is sooo much better.. yeah it’s another $120-$150 depending where you get it from but it makes the gun a whole different monster.. for real... to be honest my stock trigger really was not that bad at all.. the Apex is a little pricey... you also HAVE to buy the Apex aluminum disassembly block.. which is about $30-ish dollars because the pins are an absolute pain in the ass to take out with out that disassembly block.. it is an absolute joy to shoot with the trigger change.. and it shoots amazingly suppressed as Well... never had a malfunction in it and because of the more 1911-esque grip angle I can shoot this Better than most all of my Glocks (especially the couple of stock ones I have without stippling and customization done to them) overall I love this pistol..A LOT. I am currently getting a holster made for it and I will absolutely be carrying it as soon as I get the holster . Looking forward to it. Hope this helps some people..
Jake, the normal going rate for these before Covid prices was just over $600. Don’t go off msrp. I got my Midsize optics ready version for $500. Also, the tactical normally comes with 3 mags: 2 17 rd and 1 24 rd. At those normal prices, the value blows a Glock out of the water.
ambi slide and mag release is the only way imo. In theoretical combat situation, being able to operate with both hands to me would be important. "I hope I never have to find out" But just saying. Love my 509 lol
Apex trigger, Mcarbo spring kit (with stock striker spring) and the Apex heavy duty striker. Not including the jig to safely remove the frame pin from the 509T (~$35). Looking at a $200 upgrade on an already expensive gun just to get the trigger to where you don't want to vomit every time you press it. I bought the 509T as a bday present to myself and I was so disappointed with the trigger. The Apex striker is what smoothed it out the most. I bought a Glock 45 MOS, Sig M18 and the 509T close to the same time. The Glock and the Sig are so much better than the 509T. Would really like to sell the 509T and get another Sig P320 with an optic.
I have had two and had problems with both factory triggers. But with apex triggers its a game changer. Honestly I'd rather have the canik elite combat!!
This is why I do not own any FN products. I have been tempted by the 509 but the trigger for the cost is just not worth it. They are pricing the 510 in the metal frame guns. Honestly I would rather get something timeless at that price range with a bit more money. I can buy a cheaper 10mm that feels great and does the same job. FN always seems to overprice their guns. Fan boys be offended but they always have high prices for plastic guns.
Optics mounting systems is almost irrelavent amount competitors this day forward because there is a company now called CHPWS that makes a superior mounting plate for 90 percent of the popular guns. FN is charging extra because it has the best production multi red dot system, but it is devalued for prior said reason. It's also important to note that a glock with an aftermarket barrel and trigger is still cheaper than this out of the box setup. Think about it.
Disagree because in first place you buy a Glock MOS (extra cost), second a good threaded barrel ($150-250), third extra capacity magazines, fourth comes with an extra recoil spring for when suppressed, fifth pay for a trigger undercutting and stippling. The canvas bag and continues...
Its priced right. Yeah the trigger could be a Little better. But your not considering all the features it comes with. To upgrade a glock like this it would cost you 100$ on the trijicon suppressor sights. 150$ on the cheap end for a threaded barrel. 200$ on the cheap end for a optic cut slide or have your sent to get cut. Plus it comes with 2 mags. Thats at least another 50$ value. Plus is says FN on the side. Street price is 850$ So it's a unicorn. Everyone has a glock.
The MSRP may be $1050, picked mine up for $775, currently on sale for less! I agree on the Aimpoint, trigger on mine measured @ 5.3lbs, (5.5-7.5lbs is what FN says it should fall in) but swapped to the apex. To each his own though & hope you try one with the trigger swap, in reality it shouldn’t need one, it does, but makes a big difference.

@@CaptainCreampie69 usp is kinda outdated but i agre the glock is a better value and the afterparket has updated the optic plate. Easier to get holsters and after market parts
@@CaptainCreampie69 usp's reliability is not a myth, I bought one in the year 1998, I still have that gun and it rocks..... hk45,p2000,hkp30 are as reliable as usp but vp9 is crap.... And glocks are equally good tooo
For $899 like it is today, you’re right - meh.
For $650 I paid, heck yeah.
One thing though... having the same gun and seeing you holding one - I never realized

Complaining about 400 bucks

My 509 trigger wore itself in after about 5k rounds but it was my first ever pistol so I don’t have anything to compare it to
I love my FN’s.
IMO guns that aren't ambi are incomplete.
need you guys to start dropping links for the attachments in the description...
Yep working on it
Anyone know why homeboy is always wearing only one sleeve?

Got mine for $650. 3 mags and a case. I like it
FN must have heard what you said about the trigger, because they now send it out with a flat faced trigger.
I pick a glock for all of the above. Simple, proven, and I shoot it well... andddd I dont have the money for more than 1 ar and 1 handgun right now
I bought my FNX 45 standard from pistol parlor in Arizona I love it and I also just picked up an FNX 9 and I am now going to have to go back and pick up an FNX 509 tactical thank you for your honest review

Watch Sage Dynamics review!
But, I may try to find someone in Washington state that would help me.
where are you in WA?
Can you do a review on Diamondbacks diamond series? Especially the top tier ones, the one that comes with the CMC trigger.
I just installed the MCarbo spring kit in my 509 Tactical for $20 and it definitely improved the trigger. Much cheaper and easier than installing the $150 Apex trigger. Problem solved! No more complaints.
How and what did it improve? And will that compromise on reliability?
@@chltmdwp So, I ended up selling it. The MCarbo kit lightened the pull weight by an estimated half, but was still fairly heavy. I was hoping the trigger would eventually smooth out, but it still remained really gritty after a few hundred rounds after kit installation. Reliability was still good.
@@wisco_guy thanks! Mine is getting less gritty every time I come back from the range.
They're not pricey the minute you start pricing out getting any other brand to an equivalent feature set and reliability under suppression.
Surprised yours only came with 2 mags. Mine came with 2 of the 24 round mags and a nice soft case-similar to the FNX 45. Paid $850 for mine in black.
His friend only send 2 mags. 🤷🏻♂️
Triggered!
Pro tip: if you are left handed, just try not being left handed.
Thanks man
The trigger is not that bad, better than any Glock I have shot. Agree that the price is high for this pistol.
I can’t find a flat face apex trigger anywhere
I have both the 509 Tactical and the 509 MRD compact - 2 of my favorite pistols
I have the FNX 45 Tactical. That piece is wicked!
Got mine for $750 with five magazines. Respectfully disagree with the review. But still nonetheless, some good points
Anyone considering this firearm should look at the new changes FN has made for it. I picked the tactical up for 850 the other day that came with 4 of the 24 round mags and the shipped standard mag. IMO one of the best pistols on the market if you're shopping 9mm.
Did it come with the fn flat trigger? I just traded my compact for the full size and mine came with their flat trigger 4 24rnd mags and the one 17 rnd

My local store has the 509 Tactical with a Vortex Viper Red dot on it for $999 and those Trijicon Supressor Height Night sights arent cheap
Damn guess I got a really good deal got mine for 950 and came with a red dot sight 2 17 round mags and the 24

I'll still pick my FN 5.7 if I had to pick an FN but it's still a good company
Get the apex trigger I’ve heard many good things about it waiting on mines to arrive
That trigger reminds me of some of the weapons issued to me - strong finger good times
Dude that shirt u are wearing is sick. I can't wait for ur merch to drop. Also that pistol is rad as well. Looked like it was fun to shoot!
I have the FN 509 Tactical
Mods equipped:
- Apex trigger & Apex sear
-M-carbo music wire lighter springs
-OLIGHT PL-Pro Valkyrie or FN special Streamlight TLR-7A Tactical Light
-TRIJICON Amber12.9MOA Dual illuminated RMR
- 509 Tactical WAR Compensator
-Custom anime (Mikasa Ackerman) aluminum back plate
-Gen 2, 24-round magazine sleeves (it's all on solid piece)
(Note: mixing Apex & M-Carbo makes the trigger EXTREMELY light but MAY cause reliability issues & random multiple shots with one press. Both companies say don't mix them. You can call and verify but I didn't care. Best used with soft primer ammunition)
Overall I love it so much.
Its the mcarbo parts that are the issue and makes the gu. Dangerous and unreliable leave the mcarbo parts out of the gun

I’ve had an fn for years didn’t even pay what this jag off says FYI it’s great
I love mine , problem with that is its as far from stock as it could get. Trigger was trash , swapped it for the apex set up , PPM comp, I lapped and polished everything even the springs. It's never had a jam or something go wrong. Just me tho you spend a grand you should get a gun with at least a decent trigger .
Explain the lap and polish. I got the apex tripper and apex striker with a holosun 507c x2 and the PMM JTTC Ultra comp
Yea at that point it's far from a reasonably priced gun
I love my 509T
Your take mirrors mine. Got as far as handling one at a gun store. Just could not warm up to it.

1 - 17rd and 2 - 24rd is normal
The tactical dosent go for 600 before covid more like 750 and the mrd always cheaper
@@boomee78 the normal sale price for the tactical was $629 before Covid. You could find it at multiple retailers for that price at almost any time.

ambi slide and mag release is the only way imo. In theoretical combat situation, being able to operate with both hands to me would be important. "I hope I never have to find out" But just saying. Love my 509 lol
Hk USP is around 900$
A custom built Langdon Beretta can be had for 900-1100 depending on options.
That review is coming
Indeed, a Canik TP9sfx is half the price and has a fantastic trigger, lightened slide, and 20rd magazines.
It stiples great
This is why I do not own any FN products.
@@451jbelen I did not have this issue with my roland special.
But, you still end up with a Glock.

Grip is great as is.
Nice watch dude
It shoots well.
The gasps. Nicely done.
There's a few poly gun at the $1k mark, funny enough most are FNs lmao....
The regular fn isnt that amount of money but if u get a glock 17 mos with 2 extended mags and order a threaded barrel it makes it just as expensive
