The FNX 40 was my first purchase back in the day. That was an awesome gun to shoot. Gave it up due to the lack of holster availability on the market at the time.
Great video as usual. Picked up the 509 Tactical about 3 weeks ago. Upgrades include Apex trigger, MCARBO spring kit, Holosun 509T, stream light TLR1 HL. Picked up the 509 LS Edge a few days ago. Another awesome gun. Holosun 507C-GR, Steamlight TLR-1. Holster is the PHLSTR Floodlight, love it! BTW- the Apex trigger and MCARBO spring kit is great! Shortened everything up. Trigger pull around 4 lbs, not gritty
@@HuntFishShootChannel I think the first pistol review I saw of yours was the Canik Eilite Combat. I had 2 of those. Then I switched to Shadow Systems. I had the DR first, then the MR. Traded in the DR for the 509T. First FN I’ve owned. Keep shooting, I’ll keep watching
Great video. That is my home defense weapon. I fell in love with it the second I shot it so I dressed it up for home defense. Trijicon SRO, Streamlight TLR-9 for some serious illumination, and an Agency Arms Compensator. Match made in heaven!
I have one mounted on my FN 509 Tactical and brass does catch underneath the overhang of the SRO. It happened so often It even worked the SRO loose from the mounting plate. Now I will say the ammo I was using wasn't the best.
Never once did I have this issue but I had mounted the SRO on it before I saw there could be issues and found you shouldn’t mount it on the 509. For that reason I did end up switching to a Holosun 508t to try.
There isn’t anything specific against mounting the SRO. They advise against using the SRO on handguns in which the SRO overhangs the ejection port/chamber. Which I did not know until it was purchased and mounted on the gun. Granted the manual shows what appears to be the 509T in it with the SRO on it with a large “X”. We never experienced any malfunctions due to the SRO in nearly 900 rounds before we put the Holosun 508T on it now. Thank you for the compliment!
Well I just shot a 100 rounds with only one failure to feed, but the sro didn't cause that. So I guess I have a lot more shooting to do with the FNX45 tactical, because the sro does slightly over hang.
3 MIA but wouldn’t recommend the SRO for the 509 in the future. It over hangs a bit and could cause a malfunction. No issues for me during the review. Thanks for watching! This was our very first video ever!
Such a hard decision I use an SRO on all my guns. But I have an rmr on my 509 compact but 1 of my sponsors wants me to try to use it in competition so I'm between a rock and a hard place lol. And I will be testing a new one piece aluminium mount for the 509
Just found your channel. Excellent videos! I have a large Glock collection that began when I was a police officer. After I retired, I gathered HK’s. Recently, I got into these 509’s. I have the one in this video, with a delta point pro. I then got the 509 LE and 509 compact tactical as well. All three have Apex strikers. I haven’t had too much trigger time with them, but I do like them quite a bit. I am looking into a shadow systems, either the MR920 or the DR920 (can’t decide). Have you had any issues with the 509 since this video was made?
No issues but I can tell you one thing, you will thoroughly enjoy the MR920! One of my favorites I have ever owned. Thanks for checking out the channel, we appreciate it!
Hey have you seen a malfunction with it with that SRO yet I’m debating putting an SRO on my 509 compact but I noticed it goes over the ejection port a little
Just picked up a fn 509 tactical, looking to slap a red dot on it aswell pretty cool that you are in ohio aswell id like to see a video covering multiple red dots comparing them and what not, great video keep up the good work
That’s actually a video that we’ve discussed doing... just haven’t got to it yet. I took the SRO off as it wasn’t meant for this gun and mounted a Holosun 508T which is a great option. Thanks for watching Duvon and be sure to subscribe as we have a ton of awesome content on the way!
The SRO did overhang, an oversight on my part when I purchased it at the time. I didn’t realize that issue, just saw the two and bought them. I never experienced any malfunctions related to it , nor brass hitting off the sight housing but because of the possibility, I would recommend you go with something other than the SRO for a 509!
Great video, really like the production value. Only critique was when you describe the trigger you can’t even see the trigger, camera was too far away, and the angle didn’t square up before you were done. No biggie just sayin. Great video and good insight. 👍🏻 New sub here and I followed ya on the gram! Loving the content and what you are choosing to review.

Thanks for taking the time to put together the video, I have one myself. People seemed to regurgitate what others have said that the SRO isn’t advised on the 509 though I’ve been told by people who have first hand experience with that combination had no issues. From watching your video it seemed the ejection pattern was consistent, did you see any witness marks of brass on the SRO?
Correct Jason! Zero issues with the SRO on the 509! There isn’t anything specific saying not to mount the SRO on the 509. Just a warning from trijicon that if the SRO overhangs the chamber/ejection port it could cause malfunctions. We never observed any brass striking the SRO or notice any wear marks. The 509 is still in our collection yet has a Holosun 508T I’m trying now. 900 rounds were fired with the SRO and no malfunctions or issues of any kind.
Checkout your brass. I had a shit ton of primer drag on mine. And i bought it the same time you did and put in for the light. The firing pins are absolute shit. Why fn is still putting them in the new pistols, i dont know. They also have a history of either shearing in half or breaking the tip off. Which i fully believe mine would have done. Ended up selling it less than 2 weeks later.
@@HuntFishShootChannel Been looking to kit out a FN, and have spent hours becoming "google" competent on the platform... I can say that the striker shearing has popped up more than I'd like to see, but a quick after market swap always does the trick.. In retrospect, the trigger was also the only real complaint.. My POV is both are easily interchangeable with after market products (Apex seems to be the go to for a solid trigger kit and reinforced striker) and turns an already awesome gun with (potentially) two issues into a sweet, dependable fucking gun. As with any product, sometimes manufactures (in any industry) fall short of an immaculate design.. But the after market industry usually does a good job in polishing off what the manufacturer introduced, bringing what ever it may be back to speed. I was just digging into solid optics (was looking at the SRO) when your vid popped up, and while most of the insight was negative in terms of the 509/SRO combo, you kinda put that worry to rest.. Unconventional has its place right? And who reads manufacturer warnings anyhow? :D Also... your video personality is great bud.. Cheers from Avon Ohio.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it and I loved the SRO on the 509. I see the potential for an issue yet never experienced any of those said issues myself. The striker issue itself I can’t speak for. The gun itself if relatively new and probably will be remedied. I personally think FNH does a fantastic job with its QC and making dependable battle proven weapons. I would trust my life to one. The Apex upgrades breath life into guns that need it especially in the way of a trigger. Apex can make an M and P have a nice trigger and that is saying something! In my opinion get the gun, spend 150 bucks on apex parts that are upgrading the gun and enjoy! If you don’t spend the money you will be impressed and happy too but obviously run a pile of rounds through it and make it prove itself too. Glad you liked the video and stay tuned for more!

did you have to do anything special to mount the Trijicon SRO? Direct mount or plates etc...
No it came with what you need to
Mount the SRO since it is an RMR footprint

How far does the SRO hang over the ejection port?
David, I never took a rule to it but I would say 1/8”

There is a different plate or adaptor in the package with the gun and it’s an easy change!
