If I was the home owner, I would have paid you a bit extra to blow out the old crap from the gutters .LOL Love your work, guys, Ben watching you guys from back in the East-Side days. Keep them coming, Rick from New Zealand.
My skilled labor experience is in residential construction so I can't speak about the specifics of tree falling, but you're not only paying for the work being done but also the overhead costs for things like tools (both buying them and maintenance), the knowledge and skill you've gained and honed, and the assurance that the job will be done properly, safely, and in a reasonable timeframe. There's tons of things you don't see and won't think about unless someone points it out to you. If I'd been doing finish work with hardwood that day, I would spend a little under an hour at night honing my hand plane, chisels, and carving knife because if they didn't have perfect cutting edges, I would be wasting my time and effort the next day for less good results with tools that had slightly imperfect edges.

I hired a local tree crew last spring, the owner was my age late 50’s and his 2 man crew was 1 og early 60’s and a younger early 30’s. The OG smoked a cig before starting and both 2 man were climbing my 12 firs that average 120’ tall. Cleaning up half broken branches and dead limbs. The 60’s dude climbed 7 trees and was proud he out worked the younger guy. I was stunned at his speed and attention to detail. I’m glad I paid them the money and it took me several weekends to process the limbs. I just had them do the trimming. I took care of all cleanup. Well worth the money spent. You boys earn your pay for that really high work. I’m amazed at the strength of the 4” diameter top with you standing on it. I know you are close in so that you aren’t trying to make it sway. Nice work, Jacob. I appreciate your honesty about pricing. I spent 34 years bidding landscaping and commercial construction jobs. A wise man once told me, “Bid the job, not your competition.” This advice has served me well.
Jake, I've seen many, many from doctors to lawyers to judges to tree company owners addicted to one thing or another. Once they get to that point toward they need it every day. It doesn't matter at that point, that's what they need a lot of them. Are scared to get clean that worried about being sick. Yes, there is medication out there can help some people do want the help a lot of them don't and they lose everything and it's so sad. I was one of those people. I was addicted to pain killers bad. I did get clean and I've been clean now for 17 years by the grace of God. It was a rough road but like I said, it's been 17 years. I've been sober and it's amazing. It was probably one of the hardest things I ever did was to get clean but it's well Worth it God bless everybody.
If God cared about you he'd never have let you get addicted in the first place. If you're saying by the grace of God you were able to get clean, he must have had some part to play in getting addicted. Another reason why God doesn't exist

Kevin if you see this a tip for back cut line up is when you finish the face top cut bring the bar out the same way it went in and scar the bark. It's a quick reference my man.
Jake, as someone who used to bid on big Air conditioning jobs I speak from experience when I say that you are doing yourself proud by explaining your bidding practices. I once bid on a huge school district air conditioning maintenance job contract which was over 300K and forgot to add in the cost of inflation aver the 3 year period that the contract was for and was fortunate that my competitor who won the contract underbid me as he had made some error even bigger than mine. I realized my error after the bid was in and was hugely relieved when the other guy won the bid. I would not have made much profit if he had not won the contract. There are always other people bidding, so you have to be honest. Also your job is super dangerous so you deserve to be profitable.
Just a quick tip . Make sure you garbage cans are tied down . Even with a bungee strap. One minute the cans are in the trailer and then the wind blows them out. I noticed your boom was not locked down. Hard on the hydraulic rams . Great videos as always.
Excellent job. One bit of advice though. When you dump your bucket truck, put the upper boom down to the cab protector. It won't shake as bad when jerking chips out.
Crazy, I know prices are higher in the US, but I didn't know it would be that much of a difference. I have my own tree service in Germany and the customers would not be willing to pay more than 4.5k total for this job. The total price for a 60 foot spruce tree would be about 1.3K at my company. And that's a lot for most customers. About 50% of my offers get rejected because someone else does it cheaper. The craziest thing was an estimate of mine for 1.4k and another company did it for €850. It was a 54-foot-tall cedar tree with huge branches that hung over both the house and the neighbor's shed. Customer gave me the job because I was more professional during the estimation process. But that customer was an exception, others don't care about customer service and professionalsim here. You guys know what all the equipments costs, dumping, diesel, insurance. I still pay 1,5k for a chainsaw (around 750 for a top-handle, 500i is at 2k) and almost 40k for a chipper (depending on the model) Not even including all the climbing gear. It is very hard to keep the company alive. Hard work and "risking your life" in the tree is not appreciated in Germany. Oftentimes, I only make 200€ net profit for a whole day of work, not including maintenance of equipment and my time to sharpen the chainsaws etc. But I have no choice, either I try to keep up with the prices or I have to close the company.
You have the right the attitude to pricing work and to dealing with clients who want a cheaper price( mopst everybody does) -price competition with other contractors is a losing proposition for everybody and the industry. Learn exactly what your operating costs, day and overhead are , and know exactly what you want in profit and charge accordingly and review every job against the quote immediately you finish the work! - i learned that as a landscaping and paving and pond building and large boulder placement contractor who started out with a garening service when I was 17 and I retired when I was 63... it is better for everyone to miss out on getting work rather than losing money because you deliberately priced work too cheap just to get money in the door. better to go broke sitting at home than going broke while busting your arse! which hurts the whole industry not just yourself. have fun , but know your pricing. love your work! thanks for the entertainment and education!
No problems with talking about your life experiences and philosophy. It is good to see a person your age talking about it, and who know, there may be a person dealing with Drugs and Alcohol issues that you may expose them to a new high that changes their life for good. Keep up the good work.
I enjoy and appreciate hearing your view point on things like drugs and alcohol. It sounds like it may be part of your testimony. A lot of the people that are addicted also feel alone so its encouraging to hear that other people especially very successful people like yourself used to also struggle.
I really appreciate that you shared specific prices in this video. As someone who just started a tree service its hard to tell if Im quoting appropriately or not. So its nice to hear and see what others quote so I know if Im in the ball park.
couple thoughts - first of I love your honest to the gut style. Saw couple things here that one day may catch up..not critical, you are your own man…the brave man running the receiving end of zip line…maybe put in a porta or a breake or check line (not sure if you have seen this done, not the porta but the break-line). Eventually his “number” will come up and he will get hit by one of those branch torpedoes… also west coast style cutting with just lanyard - no problem for me at all - how ever with the ported super fast saws, high rev - even a steel cable is no match…at one point I saw a cut - above your lanyard, close, down towards lanyard…just got worried there - we all have a tired moment, are stressed, dehydrated…just be super careful…we/I like ya…really!
My son-in-law works on cermerical chimneys and every now and than has to cut down some trees. He posts his jobs and loves to send them to me because his shots make y stomach drop. The reason I'm telling you this is because your videos take my breath away. Your crew and yourself are awesome . Love your work.
I appreciate you talking about your bidding. Ive settled into the south sound and pricing varies soooo much from arborist to arborist. im a groundie/tech/only climbed the Dougie's/maples on my property, so I've seen and been a part of a fair share. I've always told clients, verbatim "is this really one of those things you want done by the cheapest bidder? If everything happens...bananas, I mean, can you afford THAT, really?!"
Thank you about commenting the price. I have always assumed that difficult jobs do not come for cheap and it was nice to hear about the cost. I'm from different continent but I would assume we would be speaking about similar figures for a job like this also here in Scandinavia. Even the trees are typically smaller 😊
Enjoyed the video. Nice seeing things come together for you. You're so right on the cheap low rate so called tree services all around. You're doing it right by charging a fair rate and doing quality work. Repeat customers are important to a business. What people will deal with to save a buck.....sometimes just getting totally "ripped off". I too love the climbing aspect of tree work. I just love climbing a tree, figuring it out and taking it down. Continued success to you and Sappy.
Outstanding work! Don't ever underestimate the value that you bring to the table. If that were my house, your work would be worth every penny! If one piece of wood went throught the roof, that 's an easy $5-10K in repairs.
To get somebody is at the more expense, I watching someone from street cut a big tree next to my house. We had our electric cut for few days because of branch falling on the wires and some of branches fell on the house roof Two guys with now ropes. Here in South Africa we have a guy that we use that very good but far behind with equipment that are used by you. I love watching when tree is cut. You guys are good
im fascinated by tree work and do a bit of it myself . no climbing yet but im proficient from the ground with my amount of experience . i would love to work with somebody like yourself and i agree with what you said about having something in your life that makes it worth not pursuing the dumb stuff . God bless 🙏

Amen, there are a lot of sketchy guys out there doing all sorts of sketchy work. Seems the hardest thing an honest hardworking guy has to do is sell their work because you've got to sing your own song. Keep up the great work! Love the videos.
That is a really good idea using the road cones. It's almost like they painted a target for him up on the tree. Especially with the horrible visibility from up there. I find it so entertaining and delightful watch the sawdust just go drifting away from the saw.
Oooh, cut through the holding wood felling the stick. Good thing you had a tag line in it! She'd have gone over backwards otherwise. Face cut was perfect though.
If someone came on to my property with an offer like that and then turned around and wanted half up front, I would tell them to get the hell off my property! Jake, I love your business ethnics. It's really that simple and people don't get it. Booze and dope will do that I guess. I kept looking through the video and not once did I see the homeowners. It's a shame they did not get to enjoy and see the amount of work it takes. Every job is work but also a big puzzle to figure out. So interesting. Guys, keep safe and keep up the excellent work. Prayers and love from Ontario.
I appreciate your thoughts on pricing and pointing out how much it costs to run a business. I have the same philosophy for my own work. It costs what it costs. My prices are in line with others in my field. I keep my prices accessible to potential clients. And I don't chase down grown adults to close a sale. Hire me or don't. I know I'm good at what I do.
Nice work, great explanation of pricing too. I do wonder about allowing those trees to continue to grow so close to the house. I mean a foot from the house! Wow glad you took care of their issue with it.
Awesome stuff as usual! Keep in mind next time on a steep zip line. Have them set a short redirect with a porta wrap or tree angel. Something to keep groundie out of the line of fire. He seems pretty quick on his feet, but if he trips or something those limbs could do some damage!!
OK, Jake Savage, what every you say is worth hearing, you are correct and fun and intelligent and caring. Just keep up the good work and informing us about you, your joband your life, your comedic talent is great and your just a really nice guy. Much love. Afriend.
This is so enjoyable to watch, but between all the cuts, I’m getting interested in the rigging, like you showed the double end flop line, but you strap in with some other safety line and rappel down it? And you carry up slings and carabiners and zip the branches down, could you show some of theses other techniques? What would be a good resource for this ? I’m asking because I’m a land owner, good rock climber, and want to limb and fall some of my own trees
Not to mention your job is very dangerous - that should be put into account. Your transparency is good, and you do such great job and tidying up the places after doing all the cutting. America needs a hardworking and honest person like you. Keep up the good work❗️
Once all of the trouble trees are removed, the roof and gutters cleaned, and any defects repaired, the homeowner should call out their insurance agent for an inspection to make an adjustment to their home policy. They just removed a huge amount of risk and liability for their own home and their neighbors. The accumulative reductions in policy pricing could offset a lot of the cost of your services. And also let them sleep better during storms.
I like when you have the Lego man on the crew and really appreciated the business talk. One thing I can't remember you addressing that I'd love to hear about is why it probably isn't worth finding a mill to buy the Doug fir. As you chunk it I'm always a little bummed you can't turn it into lumber for houses.
Well done jake and crew! You made that dismantle look easy man. One problem ive been coming across doing tree work in NJ is that people only care about the price alot of the time. They want the cheapest possible price and the most amount of work done lol its crazy man
Jacob you are an awesome arborist. You can tell you take pride in your trade very much. Enjoy your TH-cam program. If you get a chance would you explain what you mean about the sites on your saw and by the way, the little saw you use I think is a 200 that is a screaming little saw makes the job so much easier
Very good work... but remember, if when you clean the roof you don't pass the air through the drainage channels and they are full of leaves, later the client will probably have an accumulation of water and a possible humidity problem when it rains a little and the water isn't brought... lose two seconds in each drainage channel and it will be an even more perfect job!!👍🏻
You're not preaching. You're being real. Keep it up, brother!

Oftentimes, I only make 200€ net profit for a whole day of work, not including maintenance of equipment and my time to sharpen the chainsaws etc. But I have no choice, either I try to keep up with the prices or I have to close the company.
The feeling of cutting trees at high altitude is great. You have calculated very well the locations where the trees fell.
- i learned that as a landscaping and paving and pond building and large boulder placement contractor who started out with a garening service when I was 17 and I retired when I was 63... it is better for everyone to miss out on getting work rather than losing money because you deliberately priced work too cheap just to get money in the door. better to go broke sitting at home than going broke while busting your arse! which hurts the whole industry not just yourself. have fun , but know your pricing. love your work! thanks for the entertainment and education!
thank you for sharing your feelings on pricing helped me a lot I'm starting to transition to that owner style of thinking
Well done about talking approximate prices. For someone not used to asking for serious work to be done, it's lovely to have just some idea.
I need to get that speed cut nano for my echo 2511t
Great work
Thank you for taking us along
couple thoughts - first of I love your honest to the gut style.
Love your work.
the pricing is excellent info
Love the ported 2511 with 1/4 pitch chain. Definitely makes you feel like a star wars character
Employees!! You’ve hit it big with paying other people to help you! Good job and good business.
I love the transparency man keep it up let’s slowly change the typical “Tree Guy” to what your doing respect bro ❤
Loved the bit about "business transparency" surrounded by thick fog.
Love your work mate, it's great watching you tie those knots it's like second nature to you 👍
From the UK 🇬🇧
Your presentations are done so well. My favorite pastime, watching you cut tree down from Florida is my favorite hobby. Keep it up!!!
Outstanding work! Don't ever underestimate the value that you bring to the table. If that were my house, your work would be worth every penny! If one piece of wood went throught the roof, that 's an easy $5-10K in repairs.
Beyond the cost of repairs is the change in the insurance premiums, if you can keep the insurance policy with that company. Ugh.
Me ha gustado mucho el video. Enhorabuena por el gran trabajo. Saludos desde España
God bless 🙏
Been watching your videos. You have all of the right qualities to do what you do. That's why you're a pro ! Approach each job one by one to stay safe.
When you get a store are you going to carry stihl parts like carb kits, fuel lines etc. ? I live in Snohomish and will check it out when your store is up and running, hopefully not too far.
Watching Kevin cool hand Luke that line with a Lego guy head is fantastic. Nice work, Kats!
I definitely agree with you about not trying to get every job. You are not a commodity anyway haha. Professional service ❤
Oooh, cut through the holding wood felling the stick. Good thing you had a tag line in it! She'd have gone over backwards otherwise. Face cut was perfect though.
Acompanho seus trabalhos aqui da Paraíba - Brasil, seus trabalhos são arretados de bom
Really nice tall tree... very cool to watch how long the top took to fall to the ground!!! Nils
Love your channel. It has helped me a lot. Starting my own businesses in tree work. You inspired me to get to climbing again
Awesome stuff as usual! Keep in mind next time on a steep zip line. Have them set a short redirect with a porta wrap or tree angel. Something to keep groundie out of the line of fire. He seems pretty quick on his feet, but if he trips or something those limbs could do some damage!!
Essa máquina que você usa parece ser pequena, mais mim surpreendeu com a potência, muito bom
You can talk to us all you want about addiction. I'm clean 21 years Nov. 3rd. I miss seeing Jed. I miss you brother.
Congrats on 1M subscribers. You have earned it. Here's to the next million, stay safe J.
"No Guilt".... Guilty of Treeson... perfect saying my friend !
Can't wait to get that saw , my order from sappy supply can in quick . Thank you
I think I just got splinter from watching you grab those chips 😵💫
I love when employees do extra work
One of your safety ropes has a deep cut and fraying, seeing that elevated my concerns for you at 20:50.
It's a steel core flipline
Not to mention your job is very dangerous - that should be put into account. Your transparency is good, and you do such great job and tidying up the places after doing all the cutting. America needs a hardworking and honest person like you. Keep up the good work❗️
Heck yea bro! Preaching the sober life! 16 months sober here! Crazy how much better life got after sobering up!
That was an awesome video total transparency on pricing two ways to do a job do it cheap or do it rite you and your guys smashed it 👍👍
Once all of the trouble trees are removed, the roof and gutters cleaned, and any defects repaired, the homeowner should call out their insurance agent for an inspection to make an adjustment to their home policy.
They want the cheapest possible price and the most amount of work done lol its crazy man
Kevin's helmet is soooo fun!!! Like a LEGO figure head.
Love it!
Watching you up there reminds me of Jack and the Beanstock
Jacob you are an awesome arborist. You can tell you take pride in your trade very much. Enjoy your TH-cam program. If you get a chance would you explain what you mean about the sites on your saw and by the way, the little saw you use I think is a 200 that is a screaming little saw makes the job so much easier
That particular saw is an Echo 2511T about half the size and weight of a 200.... maybe not half but really tiny and lite 😊
There is no price on safety and quality. Keep up the great work!
Love that zip line limb removal set up! I need to whip up an assortment of those 2 loop straps for my tree guy.
Thanks for sharing!
Have you thought about getting a wood processor and when you schedule a day then get done early like this Kev can run it to make firewood to sell??
I just started a tree business so hearing your advice and opinions on all this is a huge help! Thanks for anither great video as always!!!
Glad it was helpful!
