Jake, if you say you have no selling/marketing tricks, I don't think that's true. You have the best trick, and that's being honest and open about your work. Specially by filming it you can show anyone who doubts, how good of a job you do. And the right people do appreciate good work and honesty!
@@Eddiehal.l Maybe a bit. I'd always recommend using something in addition to a lanyard when cutting, like a rope wrapped around the tree and choked off in a running bowline configuration, that way if you slip or cut through one of them, you have some additional protection. Otherwise, for the most part, they don't seem too risky.
Jake, i owned my own Heavy Haul trucking company and I can tell you, load binders are load rated for a reason. The risk involved, the price of the equipment, including inevitable repairs, and the fuel, and the travel time are monumental. Big trees are dangerous to own and cost a lot of money to manage. You are doing a phenomenal job with a very cooperative, cheerful attitude. I love to watch your work.
I’ve said it before and I will say it again. I really appreciate that Jacob talks about pricing! It’s so informative! The second thing I appreciate is that he doesn’t seem to edit out mistakes. We all make them and it’s refreshing to watch real content!
Jacob you shouldn't never question what you charge for your work, you own your business and you have a great team working for you. It's a very dangerous profession, it's not for everyone. I enjoy watching your videos they can be entertaining. Stay safe as always ❤
I really enjoy the talking about the business side of things! There is skill in the work, and then there is experience with talking to people and how you deal with it and handle it--always worth listening to from anyone that keeps on at it!
great take down! so funny how the “ditch witch” off the ground while hauling that huge log! a bit beyond it’s load limit! as always done right and safe! your conversations are so much fun and enjoyment! peaking into how your minds work.
This was such a great video! I loved seeing the combination of tools you used, like the Avant 528 and the Ditch Witch 600. It's fascinating how the right equipment makes such a huge difference in efficiency. Also, the way you explained the pricing and how it’s all about location and complexity was super insightful. So much safer than when I was a kid... When I was 12 I got my first chainsaw, by 13 my dad expected me to be able to fall and clean up / lumberize full size pine trees and doug firs. I manually sharpened blades by the dozens on the weekends to up my game. Had my first real "job" when I was 15, a whole summer cleaning up an 80 acre site that had been logged. Was a lot of work, surprised I didn't die. Picture some 15 year old just tearing down 50ft tall piles of limbs, and by the end of summer I sold probably 100 cords of wood and had mulched 100 or so piles of limbs. I was jacked that summer! : ) You guys rock! Glad it's safer now, I shoulda died like 50x as a kid. Usually had nobody nearby, no phone, no vehicle, just had to hope you didn't mess up.
Can’t wait to see your videos cleaning up after the recent windstorm in Western WA. I’m in Sammamish and we got hit pretty hard. We were fortunate not to experience any damage, but many neighbors weren’t so lucky. As of Sunday evening we are still without power.
love that ditchwitch.... saved my back so many times I just cut deep into the collar and push hard on the branches to swing em, they never pop that way notches tend to break too quickly to swing em wide
Tree service is a winner there. Wish i could work for you guys. Been having this experience being a firefighter here in the philippines 🇵🇭 also been a good videographer and drone operator. Best of luck. And safe cutting!
Hey Jake, love your videos. Not a arborist by any means, just love the content. I’m really curious about how you move in the tree when you’re climbing, would love to see some drone footage and hear you narrate like you did about choosing your cuts in the tree to make it easier for the ground workers.
Hey some 12 inch wedges will make it a lot easier on your elbows. I run two 10s two 12s fall anything you need to. Get rid of that double taper wedge they’re famous for popping out and they break easily at the taper change! All the best Jake!
Hey Jake, a trick August showed with cutting doug fir removals is to cut deep in the branch collar and they'll hang on if you need them to drop straight down without popping
Hi Jake I live In Australian and the trees here are really tall and big and most of the tree job we call then tree removal and I do agree with what you are say about the trees and each time I watch your video I really enjoyed watching them they are so relaxing to me 🙂
Great videos, I am in spokane, I spent 30 years in operating engineers there in seattle, yes alot of trees need cut, Watching your videos makes me think to start a wood processing deal with all of your logs, unless you are working with someone already
My thoughts on double tied in is what if a limb knocked a gaff out of the tree and your other gaff somehow popped out as well. You would be falling the entire length of the tree catching here and there with your flip line. My dad used to climb power poles for the cable company when he gaffed out and slid down catching a long splinter in his thigh. Not a good time.
Salesmanship; You are a good salesman! During your discourse when you were talking with Isaac about being a good salesman, you said, "I always ask the question, 'Does that price seem reasonable?'" That's a very powerful closing question. The other thing is pounds is about two and three-quarter times what dollars is. Does that sound reasonable? LOL
Your pricing seems reasonable. In Oklahoma to down, firewood, and brush chip a 50-60ft Oak runs about $900-$1100 depending on where the tree is located. In town you will pay almost twice that much.
Comment about hinging branches in Doug Firs. Have you tried cutting into the collar and peeling them off that way? Always works for me. Disclaimer! I am not a professional, only a part timer but doing it for about 16 years.
i love watching how you go about cutting these very tall trees that need to be trimed or cut down . and it makes me wonder why do they plant trees that may fall of there roots will under mine the foundations of the house
so in other words weeds then as the your weather has a lot to with it as seattle has a very high amout of rain as i love the place as ive been to seattle twice in my life time
Next christmas I think us veiwers deserve the "Randy chipping tops, Christmas special." An edit of Randy going hard at the chipper over and over an over, like a boss.
Just curious what do you do if you find an Eagles nest when you get to the top of a tree? You make the job look so easy. Great job to you and your guys.
Jake im from the uk and tree work from reputable companies with all the proper gear and insurance is expensive and the trees are half the size of the ones you are climbing and chipping 👍
I used to have a little echo saw like that. Just loved it for cutting limbs either from a ladder or on the ground. Had a bigger echo with a 50+cc motor and a 20 inch bar. It was a real monster. You should sell those logs for lumber.

I'm sure you have a similar price point. I work for a company that is growing quickly like yours. They put a bid in on a large city contract and found they were double the price of the lowest bid. I'm sure the lowest bid was undercutting everybody, but also the equipment for large jobs just doesn't make apply for a single difficult backyard removal.
The 'It won't cut through the flip line, cos it's steel cored' is a bit of a fallacy. The saw will cut the nylon outer, which then runs down the cable on the clamp side. The clamp only holds onto the outer sheaf.... Ask Buckin Billy Ray. . . He did the experiment.
You know your work. You know your skill. You invest in equipment. And your prices are what they are. You don't have to be a good salesman. You just keep doing what your doing and word will get around and the people that want to pay your rate will be the people you want to work for. That's how it has worked for me.

Issac's gotta try coiling on the ground with large 8's rather than a circle. The 8 cancels out the twist inherently and the line lays in order so it won't tangle. We use it on sailboats all the time.
