    CAUTION old window putty often contains asbestos. I didn't know this and have DIY removed and replaced window putty from several windows in my home. I am sending off a sample for testing. There are so many videos like this which don't even mention the risk I had no idea. I used a heat gun to remove the putty while shielding the glass which I hope removed less fibres than chipping it out but I really regret touching it at all now. I should have just had them replaced 😕

      You absolutely right, some very old putty contains asbestos in it and also old led paint.
      I would not worry about it if you only did one or two windows. I probably done over a thousand of these in my 15 year glass career, so far so good. By the way all new windows we install here ( in California) all come with a warning sticker about cancer, so is caulking we use to seal them even screw packages have cancer warning on them.

    Good video mate except for the putty you used. I find SarcoSeal dual glazing is much better than DAP.

    • @roadglassandmore9064
      @roadglassandmore9064  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. I have only used DAP putty as it’s widely available here and that’s what the company I work for use. But will definitely check out sarcoSeal.

    Thanks, I was dreading doing this and now I think I'll be able to do it. One question, I noticed the last time a guy fixed my window, he these metal clips that the window has around it, is it necessary to add these on or will the clear silicon you use be enough.

    • @roadglassandmore9064
      @roadglassandmore9064  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So the clips are meant to hold the glass in place until putty drys, if I’m replacing huge pieces of glass I sometimes use those clips!
      Silicone will start to cure and setting in pretty quick within an hour or two, so just make sure don’t push on the glass very hard.

    • @roadglassandmore9064
      @roadglassandmore9064  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry to hear that you cut your arm,. But if you are going to replace it the glass I would recommend ordering tempered glass as it is a lot stronger, harder to breaks and a lot safer when it does break.

      Most (not all) Interior doors have small wood stops that are nailed in on one side.

  • @SmallBlueThing93

    Was this repair done from inside or outside the window? Can it be done from inside the building for a broken window on the second floor?

    • @roadglassandmore9064
      @roadglassandmore9064  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was done from outside.
      And I think all the older windows have putty on the outside, so the only way to do it is from outside.

    • @roadglassandmore9064

      Local glass shop/supplier. I even seen some Home Depot and Lowe’s sell single pane glass.

      @@roadglassandmore9064 how much are they is this expensive too put?

  • @thersten
    @thersten 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What kind of glass is that? Tempered? Anealed?
    Local hardware stores don't have anything except the thinnest single pane you ever saw.

    • @roadglassandmore9064
      @roadglassandmore9064  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That glass is annealed ( only glass in doors, showers, writhing 36” of the showers within 24” of any door or within 18” of the floor requires to be tempered) the glass in the video is 3/16” obscured the pattern called quatex.
      Try going to local glass shop/supplier they will be able to cut you almost any piece of glass.

    What are the wages that only glass installers get?

    • @roadglassandmore9064
      @roadglassandmore9064  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Wages?, pay? It all depends on your location, experience and place of work , private residential shops pay $16-40/hr , union shops pay up to $64/hr.

      There are only white ( for all applications), and you can also buy grey ( only used on metal window frames)
      So white and grey as far as I know.
