Our family visited 21 states this summer in our Lance 1172 and F350 Dually and we absolutely love it. They are both amazing pieces of equipment and a great pairing. Thanks for this review.
We ordered a 2022 Lance 1172 last October and are still waiting for delivery. Lots of new features and standard features on the new 2022 models. You nailed the the one feature that we like the rear slide out with the couch. I didn’t find sitting at a dinette table that comfortable for a long period of time.
How many hotels would you have to stay in to justify a $200,000 rig? If you paid $150/night and spent 50 nights/yr in a hotel, that comes to $7500. So if you do that for 27 years, you will have justified your purchase. You’re clearly a genius!😆
@@scottmichaels12 if it’s a money only decision it’s a very poor decision and you’re beyond a doubt right, but if it’s transportation, living quarters, kitchen, safe space, and no nasties on the bed comforter I can understand the decision. If you cook you can save some bucks there too. I think I would like it for a short time too. Long term, no way.
Your wife is really good at loading that big beast. It’s a dream rig for sure. I’m considering the 1172 and 972 for my 3/4 Time travels. Thanks for a very complete review!
Love it I had the Cirrus 820 and loved it. I would of liked the slide outs of the Lance. Cirrus has the Aldi heating system that is much better than forced air. It's completely silent and the hot water is in demand no 6 gallon tank. Like I said the Lance Slide outs is a must on my next unit. I think a F350 for my needs is sufficient. Thanks great presentation.
Yes! An F450 is a much heavier truck. An F350 actually has about 1600lbs more payload than the F450. The 450 has more towing capacity but when you add a suspension lift, your giving up towing capacity. This is just a show piece, it’s not practical.
@ 10:18 Uhhh no. I would advise you not to camp on the four jack poles alone. Put some support boxes or racks under your truckbed camper to stabilize and distribute the weight and save your four jack poles for mounting and dismounting only.
You can take the dually off and put 41s on there right and it will still handle the weight right? So do people really like these better than the ( earthroamer or storyteller). I know they like the price difference but I do like yours👍👍. I seen two used ones 2020 and 2021 for like 46k and 53k. 07-16-24@11:47pm
I'm looking at a cherry dump bed F450 right now. '02, 7.3 powerstroke with only 69k miles. I think I'm gonna scoop it up for my business. But as an afterthought, think I can get one of these campers into a dump bed? I think I'll have like 3 tons of useable payload with the dump bed attached. I guess if the bed is too long that could be an issue. Maybe? Would it be bad if it set back another 2ft? I think my buddy's F450 has a 10ft pickup bed, if it's not 12ft. Plus a crew cab. Massive.
You're blessed! I've been following you for awhile since your Harris Chain video with Bass university on humminbird and position etc.. I may do a lance 650 if my Ram 1500 can handle that weight with my Phoenix 721 on the back. Seems better than hotel to me..
I got one more come well question is it good for like a safe pretty really cold outside I mean probably down to 20 or 30 or 40 below let me know thank you
I have the same F450 and Lance 1172 set up with the wider fuel offset wheels. I have to take the outside wheels off to clear the camper jacks when loading /unloading the camper. How do you clear without taking the wheels off?
Then you don’t have the wide track front end, game changing, turning radius, heavier sway bars, stock from the factory, larger, half shafts in the axles, and larger brakes. Commercial 19.5 inch tires I’ll take the F450 any day.
The F450 has about 1600lbs less payload capacity than an F350. Payload is what you want if you’re putting a 6000lb camper in the bed of your truck. I’ll take the F350 any day with a truck camper!
@@scottmichaels12 I don’t know where you’re getting your numbers from. My F450 has a payload of 5862 pounds. My camper weighs 5200 pounds. I would much rather have a F450 with that weight than a F350 for the reasons I listed above.
Do you use an onboard compressor or a portable like a viair ? I'm considering a similar setup but struggling with a 350 or 450. Probably a Host Mammoth. And instead of a boat a small toad like a Jeep or something
Yeah the F350 has about 1600lbs more payload capacity than an F450 so it would be crazy to purchase a F450 for a camper. If you’re buying a fifth wheel, that’s great but not a camper. The F450 is much heavier so the payload is much less.
An F350 has about 1600 more pounds of payload than an F450 because an F450 is a heavier truck. You should not put a heavy camper on an F450 because the extra weight of an F450 takes away from the payload. An F450 can tow more weight, but you cannot put as much in the bed…which is where a camper goes. You should trade that F450 for an F350.
I got a couple questions is your truck a 6-ft bed or 8-ft because I know they make four of the eight foot but it's special ordered and is your camper is the same as a 6 ft or 8 ft can you get them campers and 8-ft please let me know thank you
The load range on the tires that came on the F450 is better then those 20 inch wheels... You can only get a 10 ply with 20 inch wheels and the tires that most likely were on stock were a 17.5 wheel with either 12 or 14 ply which would handle the weight way better then those 10 ply 20 inch... Basically those 20 in wheels are for looks, if my family was traveling with me I would've kept the 12 ply tires on it...
I thought this was going to be a great setup until you got to the bathroom. For some reason you didn't want the viewers to see what it looked like so you kept the camera pointed at you instead. I think that changed my mind pretty quick about how nice it was.
I love people who buy a F450 because its "Bigger" but don't do any research and the F350 is actually better... Ford F-350-7,850-pound maximum payload capacity. Ford F-450-6,210-pound maximum payload capacity. F450 has bigger axels which takes away from the weight it can have in the bed and the use the SAME engine so you get no more power.
EXACTLY! If you’re towing a big toy hauler, then a F450 makes sense but when you’re literally putting a camper in the bed of your truck, that extra 1600lbs that you get with an F350 is huge! Payload should be the biggest factor when buying one of these extremely heavy truck campers. A lot of people truly have more money than sense.
@@scottmichaels12 No you are wrong in everyway. Why do you need a 450 to tow anything, the 450 is the dumbest truck they make, IT DOES NOTHING except turn tighter pulls the exact same weight as a 350.... wake stop buying things just to say you have it.

An F350 has a payload of 1600lbs MORE than an F450. That means it can carry a heavy camper better than a F450. F350 and 450 are the same truck, you're still overweight probably more than the 350 because the 450 weighs more. Both are 14k. Should have done more research and got a 550, you only get better turn radius and bigger brakes over the 350, gvrw is the same. Hit a cat scales, you'll see.
