- Our very first overnight train experience in Europe! We booked a deluxe sleeper cabin on the ÖBB Nightjet from Vienna to Milan and brought our dog along with us. The cabin had everything we needed - beds that folded down, a private bathroom with shower, and complimentary breakfast. We got to relax in the ÖBB Lounge in Vienna before boarding and were given sparkling wine for the journey. Making up the beds and figuring out luggage storage was chaotic but fun. Eating our train dinner, watching the scenery go by, and then waking up on board and having breakfast served in our cabin made for a very unique experience. After 13 hours, we arrived in a rainy Milan feeling tired but glad we tried European overnight trains!
Have you experienced an overnight train? How do you like them? Have a suggestion for a future train trip we should try? Let us know!

Always loved sleeper trains, the old Night Ferry from London Victoria to Paris Nord was a great service but was a bit bumpy when the train was shunted onto the ferry. One couldn't leave the train once boarded at Victoria as technically one had left England, there was no need to and didn't call at any stations only stopped at Folkestone Dock and Calais to detach and attach locomotives. Never have problems sleeping on any train, was the rocking motion always slept like a baby. The carriages returned that morning as the London part of the Orient Express. French carriages were too big for British tracks.
I think with European overnight trains the idea is usually much more attractive than the reality!
We (me, wife, son) took a night train from Cologne to Vienna in 2022. We were half of a six berth sleeper. My wife didn't like it (too claustrophobic), I didn't mind it (other than it being hard to get to sleep), and my son was fine with it!
We travelled by Via Rail through Canada from Toronto to Edmonton more than 25 years ago. We just slept in our seats as we couldn't afford a sleeper. It was an exhausting experience but also unforgettable.
A trip that provides a new experience for those who have just seen it, seen in your video this time offers beautiful and interesting overnight journey Train from Vienna to Milan. Thank you for sharing us to see it..
I love train travel.
Life is a adventure , and it's great your livin it and taking us along.
Always happy when I see an upload. Big love from a Patreon member
If this was your first time sleeping in a moving vehicle I'm not surprised you didn't sleep well, it's what might be called an acquired skill. That aside, I'm glad the overall experience was enjoyable.
When you next visit the UK, try the sleeper from London to Inverness. There's nothing quite like waking up in the Highlands on a bright summer's morning.
We would love to take the sleeper train up to Scotland. Maybe on a future trip. Thanks for the suggestion!
Hello both & Carly. Over the years I’ve been on quite a few sleeper trains. First one I went on was from Crewe to Inverness. Then I broadened my outlook with Toronto to Jasper, Johannesburg to Cape town (The Blue Train), across the USA from New York to San Francisco via Washington DC, Chicago, Denver, Flagstaff, Los Angeles. Australia Perth to Adelaide (Indian Pacific), Adelaide to Alice Springs (The Ghan), Cairns to Brisbane. They were great experiences but the food we had on Amtrak was poor fast foods, not real chef cooked meals, they were just microwaved meals. The others gave us chef cooked 3 course restaurant quality food. For you I would recommend the Canadian with Via Rail from Toronto to Vancouver, and I would suggest the Silver or Prestige class. A la carte meals.
Oh wow me and my husband did the exact same journey 9 years ago and it was AMAZING
Thanks for such a detailed and objective video. So many train trips to suggest but maybe try a daytime transalpine route like Milan-Zurich just for scenery alone. There are also many scenic rail journeys you can take within Switzerland itself.
Hello Cara and Jeremy. I did a similar trip as a teenager on inter rail. I ran out of Schilling and jumped on a bus to the station, as if I had a pass, to get to the night train out of Austria. It was red hot summer in Italy, warm enough that I slept at that station in Milan overnight. We also used to get a sleeper north to south and back to get away from the heat then return to explore more of Italy and save on hotels. Basic seats and no cabin though.
That sounds like quite an adventure!
@@TheMagicGeekdomI cannot believe now how much we got to see in a month. I turned 18 under the Eiffel Tower. I was shoved onto a subway train and pickpocketted in Rome, so my replacement Inter Rail pass was Italian and I had to explain why I did not need to pay every trip. We got to visit Copenhagen, which I felt strangely at home in being from Yorkshire in the old Danelaw. I always also remember fish and chips in Bruges. Fish on a kebab stick, nearly Whitby standard and proper chips, but with mayonnaise.
Orient express would be an experience 😁👍
Glad you made it to Italy
Always look forward to your videos! They are very educational
Thank you! ❤
Carly in a compartment!! Love it
What an experience, I wonder where the dog goes to the loo?
We tried letting her off at one of the stops to go, but she didn't. 😔
@@TheMagicGeekdom Bless her 🦮
that is what i also wanted to know
Fun video as always 👍
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
Free Branded Slippers!!!!!
Where do you go from there 😂😂
Quick question, where did Carly do her bizznizz💩
Awesome video though Guys, something a little different 👏🏼
We tried letting her out to do her business at one of the stops, but she didn't want to until we got to Milan.
@@TheMagicGeekdom awwww well she knows what she wants 😂
Good to see you guys enjoying the journey
The train services across Europe are incredible. It's amazing how you can get a train from Vienna to Milan and other countries across the continent. Did you do a vlog from Vienna? Can't recall seeing it. Shame you didn't film inside the amazing Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan.
We made a video in Vienna, however, we aren't sure if we will put it out because it was raining so badly there that it kind of hindered the video. 😔
@@TheMagicGeekdom Shame. Look forward to your Italian ones.
A quick question where did your dog go to the loo over night . Am guessing on the floor on the train ?
Where does the dog go to toilet ?
We did a fair bit of overnight travel on trains in Europe. Your BMI certainly dictates how much you’ll enjoy it
People eat too much today, I eat like once every few days and it is fine.
you have one meal every few days and you are fine. And you don't eat anything else in between?
Me and my fiance love watching your videos, please come to Cleethorpes next time you’re in the uk! ❤
Hopefully on a future trip. Thank you!
