I think the pods are backpacker level and will result in poor sleep. Rattling closing doors. People putting things on the ladders (I’ve seen it already in other videos). And that partition between your neighbour is flimsy and won’t keep any noise out. The pods themselves are nice but the noise and ‘party’ potential puts me off.

The concerning thing is that ÖBB have hugely hiked the cost of sleepers to eye watering levels. I did a sleeper from Milan to Wien in October and paid a €90 supplement on my Interrail. I have been looking at things like a sleeper from Wien to or from Amsterdam and the cost of a sleeper is more like €400 or even more in some cases!! That really removes any benefit so I have no idea what they are thinking!!

ÖBB will have lost my sleeper train customer, even coming from the UK that means about 6-8 sleeper trips a year and I am sure there are many others like me. Looks like every country has its way of sleeper services. Canada & USA: take scenic routes and market as a sightseeing route, Europe: travel conventional routes by night similar to planes, Japan: absolute ultimate sightseeing service that despite the high price, the target group seems more than willing to sell out! The ÖBB can't do magic. They have ordered 33 new full Nightjet trainsets. I don't know in how far they will replace existing ones. There is a massive shortage of sleeper train sets in Europe as the sector has been disinested for decades. Demand is much higher than supply even now as the ÖBB has expanded its Nightjet network.
Regular flights are not much more affordable than a couchette when booking sufficiently in advance. This is double true if you own a Klimaticket which quite some Austrians do, which cuts single ticket prices down by around 50 EUR.

The legacy fleet is really taking a beating in most reviews for the new Nightjet trains - for example, you saying the cars are from the 50s and 60s while showing cars from the early 2000s and late 90s - and honestly, I think it's unwarranted. The sleeper cars from the 2000s are really good and offer more flexibility. Compartments can be reconfigured for 1, 2 or 3 people and even be merged with adjacent compartments. And they are more reliable then the new trains. ÖBB has some truly old couchette cars and and they really should have replaced those years ago, but every cent went into these new sets, which came late and problem-ridden, because ÖBB wanted a Raljet-like train instead of new and impoved single cars.

The pods look awful. I'd not want to be sitting on my bed for the whole part of the journey when I wasn't sleeping. This seems like a good concept as a budget option for maybe backpackers or something but not for adults. I'd be claustrophobic in that thing.

Looks nice but three hours late. Not very reliable and priced up to €1000 is ridiculous.

Only the most ardent train enthusiasts will pay over a 1,000 EUR for this. Quite a disappointment right at the very end. This does not bode well for the future of sleeper trains

1000 EUR is ridiculous but have a look at the actual prices. That is probably the max price if you are using a double sleeper cabin alone. You pay of course for two in that case. If you don't go for that luxury option (and opt as a single traveller who just hates the idea of being with a foreigner in the same room for the pods) prices even in the worst case, are much more reasonable.
If you book a sleeper train a few days in advance you can be lucky if you get a place. The highest prices for single comfort plus, the most expensive option I could find did not exceed 475 EUR, that is very expensive. But if you fly first class, how much do you pay for that again? The plus is just luxury. The Single comfort is already at 355 EUR and that is a ticket at short notice (and like i said, those single sleepers, you pay effectively for two as you also consume the space for two).
The pods can be found at around 100-130 EUR, even when booking at short notice, as long as they are not booked out.

Nightjet with their obscene price increases has really screwed the passenger. Of which, I hope they lose their shirts.
And no way it is desirable to "save" money by traveling in a bloody Japanese-like pod with its confined space, no sound-proofing and no real privacy, especially considering that the screen between pods looks like it can easily be opened by someone in the adjoining pod.
As such, Nightjet will not be my mode of travel.
Best to stick with daytime travel on faster and more cost friendly carriers.

Maybe you should inform yourself before spreading disinformation. The sliding door between the pods can be of course only opened when both sides release the lock. There is no such thing as a sound proof night train but you get ear plugs for free in your package, if you need absolute silence for your sleep. I am not sure which night train is supposed to be sound proof, would love to know.

Look more carefully. @11:41 you can clearly see that there are two latches/locks - one for each side.
This isn't a new idea, cabins with connecting doors (to combine two cabins into a suite if you travel eg. as a family) have existed on night trains for decades.

Passport checks between two EU countries? Amazing. Why have an EU at all except if you are are poor member and need the subsidies. That's not really free as you need to kneal to the power of the EU bureaucrats.
