Thanks for the great video! I just installed the new SB 47 gallon tank today. I live in Miami so I can't make it to your shop for the install and instead, installed it myself. Trouble is, I have a floor jack, but no other vehicle lift equipment. That said, the install went fine even though it involved quite a bit of crawling around on my back in the driveway, but still, no problems. I do have all the tools necessary (not that it requires very many tools), but no lift. My Sprinter is a 2500 4x4 with 265/70/17 tires and there was plenty of clearance to slide the old tank out, slide the new tank under, and install the new tank without having the jack up the Sprinter. The install took me about 4 hours and the tank took right at 47 gallons first time adding fuel. Again, thanks for the great video and I wouldn't have gone to the new 47 gallon tank had I not seen your video! Thank you for all your great videos! Best regards, Mike
There's one thing you need to mention - if you have a 2008-2018 version (NCV3) you have to check to see if your van has the "J51" upgrade. You can research online but basically on the NCV3's the fuel gauge works differently than the newer VS30's. The NCV3's use a calculation to determine what value to show on the fuel gauge instead of the actual reading from the float. If you ordered the "J51 option", this was turned off and the gauge read from the float and not the calculation - which is what you absolutely need to make this tank give an accurate reading. Note this is a different issue than miles-to-empty, which is covered in the video. Some dealers will enable J51 for a few hundred bucks - others won't mess with it. You can research this more online - before ordering this tank double check your VIN for the J51!!
It would be really cool to get a customer review after 6 months with this and see if they notice anything different or if anything goes wrong, I know it probably wont go wrong but I'm just a very anxious person lol so I would need to hear some long term reviews before I seriously considered this
The org.factory fuel tanks downsized a lot in the past years on many brands. Larger aftermarked fuel tanks are now a great solution, they give you a lot more freedom on long distance touring 😁.
Thank you for being the first Upfitter to produce an excellent video regarding this amazing new tank. Since FedEx delivered my tank a week ago, I’ve been pondering the possibility of having it professionally installed on my 2020, 3500XD, dually. What would you charge me to install my S&B, 47 gallon poly tank?
Too bad water tanks are not customized to fit and maximize available space like this gas tank. Makes me wonder why aftermarket or better yet oem doesn't offer tanks and mounting for water tanks. Seems like these would sell in larger volume than gas tanks, to DIY, outfitters, and rv manufacturers.
Does this van have the J51 option that gives priority to the float level in the tank over the calculated level the computer comes up with. “Fuel gauge, optimized for aux. fuel tap”.
I love your videos, but I think you are erroring on the side of caution a little much. I installed a 50gal titan tank with my boys (under 10yo) on an F250, in the driveway, and it took less then an hour. Also we had ford adjust the vehicle computer to calculate for the increased fuel capacity and accurately predict the DTE. I have already ordered my tank for my 2022 and can’t wait to install it. Great video and thank you for the heads up. Keep up the good work.
Update, we (me and my 16yo) installed the new 47 gallon tank on the new sprinter in less then 2 hours. We used 2 floor jacks and hand tools. Super easy and a great tank design. I would highly recommend for anyone!
Van Land have you had any issues with installing without the J51 option? S&B recommends that you have the J51 option that is not available with the H12 package many of us have.
Is the tank actually deeper than stock? If it is, does the in tank fuel pickup get an extension or does it sit deeper in the tank due to a molded well so it will extract all the fuel?
I just installed the tank today and it is deeper/taller by a bit. The install doesn't call for extending any of the tubing going into the tank from the sending unit. That said, I don't know how it does it, but with adding just 4 gallons to get me to the gas station, the fuel picked-up worked fine and got to the fuel from the bottom of the tank with no problem. Also, from what I know of Van Land, if they recommend the product, it's going to work out fine.
Any issues with installing the larger tank on a 144 3500 XD dually? Based on the video it looks like the majority of the additional capacity of the new tank is situated toward the front.
6 hours to install! 😂 I can remove and replace a transmission in hour and 15 minutes. That fuel tank doesn't look that difficult to remove and replace. Just my 2 cents. I just order one so I hope it doesn't take me that long..hahahaha Thanks for the great video..
Asked this of Jeremy the other day, but in conjunction with installing a SureCal under the passenger side steps & they have not used the AMP Powersteps yet. There is much debate @ Sprinter-Source on the mechanical install & the controls that AMP is now supplying. Maybe time for a video update, tho pretty sure that bay is clear of any new or old diesel tank stuff - gonna take another look later today !!!
This dude Sam says it's 'farfetched' to be done in a driveway without a lift. He's professional installer with a lift and it took him 6 hours. Y'all either joking or basic as hell. 🤣😂
@@VanLand Haven't installed mine yet, but I'd reckon it would be much shorter than 6 hours. Just confused about the fear-mongering from Sam and not sure why he phrased it the way he did. There are tons of videos now from amateur DIYers installing their larger tank on a basic jack and mini-ramp.

You can reprogram the vans computer for distance to empty

Did this in my driveway without a lift and just a floor jack with a basically empty tank this took under 2 hours. If it took them 6 you got ripped
Yeah, they are an installer so he has to say 6 hours so he can charge flat rate for 6 hours time.....I would hope people understand that.

How's the mpg after bigger tank installed. Also, the distance to empty is accurate? The fuel level indicator is accurate too?
Thanks :)

Good question! I would like to know the accuracy of fuel gauge without the J51 option and S&B 47 Gallon upgrade.

Works fine on the dually Sprinter

Is there a bigger tank available for the Nissan nv3500?
How much does it cost for Mercedes Sprinter 170 EXD 2019 2500 diesel ?
would this work on a motor home built on the sprinter 3500 chassis
Have you tried it with the Amp Research power steps?

Will this fit on a 2022 Revel?
Yes, as long as it's diesel. It's a bit of a tighter fit, but we recently just installed one to a revel! :)
Does it fit a Storyteller?
Not without moving some tanks.
It fits on my 2021 STO Stealth just fine, after moving the spare tire to the back door. No other tanks need to be moved.
Fits a 2022 Beast without any issue. 2 hrs from a local shop.
Will this 47gal tank will fit Thon Sanctuary?

fresh, grey and black water tanks do not come with regular vehicles. People add them as part of the customization, as required, desired.
