Can you tie this into the engine coolant for heating as well?
In theory, thats possible. In practice, this particular system is not designed for that. I also think using the engine for heating is a half assed solution. Having the system independent of the engine is a superior solution and has so much less risk to damaging the engine.
How much is “not cheap”?
You say "battle wagon" I see "Struggle (to afford) Bus"
lol why do you say that
@@thebatlwgn Sprinters are expensive, man. Thats why I got a 2002 Suburban for my offroad camper project vehicle.
Haha well I’m fortunate that things have lined up to make this possible.
@@thebatlwgn The main reason I even thought the struggle bus was the colors, to be honest. Yellow with black stripes? This is begging for a pop out stop sign
lol it’s accurate
In floor heat is the best type of heat to have. If it’s in a van or house nothing beats it. Installed them in homes, the heat just flows from your feet to your head.
I totally agree. I’m so excited to see how it feels on my feet next winter!
Oh lawd. Yes that would've terrified me as well. Much worse than just cutting some holes in my new carpet. I see what you mean. Oh my.
Haha yes definitely nerve racking
If there ever is a leak, how easy is it to get to the lines in the floor?
In theory, there won’t be a leak. It’s not going to be super easy to get into that flooring. We pressure tested the lines overnight and they were good to go but that didnt make it into the video.
@@thebatlwgn In theory, famous last words... 😁 But seriously, yes, eventually that line will degrade and fail, it just depends on how many cycles it is put through and the pressure it is subjected to. The smarter route would be to use a more jacketed tubing, like is used in residental installations. With only one layer from failure, you're sorta asking for trouble.
@@lilricky2515 well they have a shitload of these things on the road so im hoping its not an issue for me.
How much weight is added by the floor heating and is the heater system not vulnerable out there if you ever go out on rocky dirt with it
It’s roughly 150lbs total and it’s as vulnerable as everything else under the van. We shall see I guess! Haha
Dude I just saw you in this yesterday, you drove through parkesburg.
Haha that’s awesome! Yep! It’s hard to miss!
Radiant heat is fantastic but boiler can be a nightmare long term. I definitely suggest a backup heat source!!
Thanks for the heads up. Have you messed with these in a vehicle or are you speaking from residential perspective?
@@thebatlwgn I'm in HVAC for homes so I've never done anything with a heating system in a vehicle or van. It is an awesome way to heat a space! I just worry about boiler components breaking.
And I think I didn't hear anything about where the energy for all that heat is coming from...?
The heater for the entire system uses diesel diesel. The electric draw on the pumps is minimal.
@@thebatlwgn Thank you.
Ive been in the HVAC industry for a while. This is fascinating to me.
Yea? How does this compare to what you would have expected? The problems in a van are definitely different than a home but I’d bet there’s some crossover!
@thebatlwgn the concepts transfer over. Outside of the air transfer coil a lot of the equipment is unique.
That’s pretty cool. Im excited to try it out!
VERY BAD IDEA OF BUNCH OF PLUMBING,...... LEAKAGE !!!!!~~~~~
This is better built than most home plumbing and inside the floor there are no joints to leak. 🤷♂️
Was surprised that they left the channels open below the subfloor. No insulation material in those channels at all. Every R counts in a van build.
In my opinion, you don’t gain enough by putting something in that spot. 🤷♂️
