She has very very nice (fantastic) voice timber, but she can't control her voice that well, and breathing and dynamics, and..... If she would work vocal coaches and seriously train she could be a very listenable singer: nature gave her the all tools:

I remember watching Billy's concert in Russia when it was televised and when he brought Alexa Ray onstage when he was singing "Uptown Girl". Towards the end of the song, he passed her to Christie, who was in the audience. I think they travelled together a lot while Alexa was young.

She's a great singer in her own right, even if she might not be exactly a household name. I've listened to her for years and really love her voice and she's just gorgeous and also has those beautiful eyes, puppy dog eyes, her dad had when he was young. :) I just LOVED when he tried to pull up her shoulder strap! I know right? There is a good voice there, but she's falling into the trap a lot of singers tend to fall into, oversinging. I mean she repeats that same melisma about 4 to 5 times in the song. Though to be fair, I haven't seen what her material is like so I'm solely judging her on this performance.

I just rewatched the documentary, 'A Matter of Trust: The Bridge to Russia'... about his 1987 tour through Russia.
Like Last Play at Shea, it is a favorite that I like to rewatch every once in awhile.
what I love is that when they were in russia, Alexa was about 2 years old.. that's my last reference and now look at her!

Yes! I'm in a New York state of mine.
Having been born in the '50s, I (and my wife) grew up in the halcion years of Billy Joel's music, beginning in the '70s. I'm a life-long pianist, and I'll always regard Billy Joel as the one and only 'piano man'. This duet was a truly fun thing to see (although I prefer the original, classic version). Kudos to Alexa --- stunningly beautiful lady, overflowing with charm and personality, and a singing voice dad must surely beam with pride over. Didn't hit all the notes, and at times sounded a bit flat to my ear; however, not to criticize Alexa since, in time and with voice maturation, she'll come into her own with potential star power. This performance is a testament to father and daughter love and respect.

NYSoM is one of BJ's classics and a particular fave of mine also. Some rich little maj9 to m7 key shifts in the bridge ("It was so easy living day by day..."). I also enjoyed the little tribute to Sinatra at the end, a very nice and appropriate touch imho. Everybody's commented on Alexa and her famous dad -- and they are both very polished and natural together -- but I'd also like to put in a word for Mark Rivera, who is all class too, always the consummate professional. Saxy stuff. :)

She has a powerful voice. But this duet doesn't work. It's like they're in different recording studios. He's relaxed, soulful, she's hyped up, energy doesn't match, it's all about showcasing her voice, not interpreting the music WITH him. The back and forth is not connected. She constantly upstages him. It's his daughter, he's a big, beloved star...the only reason someone didn't step in and fix this.

As a longtime lead singer and dad of 4 daughters who all love to sing sept one of them she's really bad singer, I'm not going to name names...lol.. I can't imagine how awesome it would be to sing with one of my kids like this on a stage like that. His kid did a pretty damn good job, a little Ariana Grande at parts for this classic but all in all very nicely done 👍
