      @@zin6730I guess one could argue that is a loose definition of the word vindicated. It means to free from allegation or blame, prove to be right, to provide justification or defense for, to protect from attack.

    I spent 20 years working Ren faire and so many people Didn't understand how I could wear so many swingy skirts? They Create their Own Breeze! They Were So Cool! One Day I left my costume in someone's car, and had to wear Denim Shorts and a t-shirt, Oh what a mistake! Half way through the day I went down with heat stroke. The Only time it ever happened! Fellow Renfaire employee here and you're absolutely right! Not to mention we wear LOTS of cotton and linen which are both way more breathable than a lot of the poly blends available out there. Even lightweight wool is good at wicking away sweat in the summertime!

      The layers also help keeping your body temperature stable if they're made from the right material (cotton, silk, linen). I hate sounding like an old grump, but people nowadays don't have a clue how to dress for hot (or cold for that matter) weather.

    • @Serena-or7sl

    I sometimes wear and make historical clothing as a hobby, and my recommendation for keeping the heat out is linen in layers. Wearing layers doesn't just isolate from cold in winter, it can also keep your temperature stable in the heat. I've worn 4-5 layers of 18th century dress, petticoats, and stays (mostly made from linen), and was perfectly comfortable while others were sweating in their single layer of poly-cotton dress.

    • @FlowerEmblem
      @FlowerEmblem ปีที่แล้ว +27

      Yeah polyester is basically just plastic so it doesn't allow for as good ventilation and sweat absorption. Why I also hate chiffon clothing in the summer - yes it's pretty but it also means that everything's sticky and the sweat just builds up on yourself, and it's more likely to get irreparable tears

    • @KatieM786

      The historical fashion community is a lifesaver, tbh. I've replaced my bras with a corset made of 100% cotton fabrics, and try as the Texas heat might, I'm not sweating *near* as much anymore. Long live natural fibers.

    Take from someone who spent years living in the Australian desert AND tropics: Best hot weather outfit is always a short, linen blend, pinafore/overall style romper with a crop top!
    No waistband + open sides = HEAPS of airflow, and the fact that it's shorts instead of a skirt eliminates thigh chaffing without the need for another heavy layer underneath. Perfection!

  • @themurrrr
    @themurrrr ปีที่แล้ว +168

    Would also recommend a light hat with wide rim: cast a shadow around your body
    Also: get a fan! (The wavy kind, not the electric, tho get both) create your own refreshing breeze, get a fun color to match outfit

      There are also necklace fans, for those who are in such heat that they're willing to sacrifice the fashionable nature of handheld fans for the ability to essentially direct air conditioning right at your face. I get mine as O2Cool (name?) two-packs at less than 10 bucks per fan. That has saved me in El Salvador, together with a hand towel dipped in water around my neck and shoulders if it gets really bad.

    I live part time in Florida. The summer heat is brutal. I find flowy loose fitting dresses to be the coolest thing to wear. Nothing around my waist to make me hot. Just slip on a dress, some sandals, maybe some jewelry and go. Long breezy flowy skirts are great too but I'm too old for crop tops. So I have a couple of loose tops made with eyelet. It's amazing how cooling they are because when you walk the air flows through the eyelets and creates a lovely breeze.

      Try linen shirts, I recently bought one out of desperation in the middle of a very hot day when my cotton T-shirt was practically melting on me. I must admit I only tested it in the afternoon so I can't guarantee it's so much better, but it was still hot imho and it was in fact very nice. I think linen is more breathable than cotton. It's also more expensive, but if you need it, then you need it.
      I still need to buy a few more, but the sizing nowadays is so wild, it's as if designers thought all small size people were 400 pounds four feet (200 kg 1.40m or something) dwarves. I get it's "the look" now but please adjust the shape to a small size person a bit more, I guarantee a "'found a huge man's shirt and cut off half of the length' look" is not what you had in mind... (I did buy an oversized one since they were the only ones available, but there is a difference between fashionably oversize and "have you ever seen a human?" shaped clothes...

    Texas and it’s gonna be in the nineties and hundreds. This grandma is a bit too chunky to do crop tops, but I have loads of gauze maxi skirts and cotton tanks to wear. Plus I only wear cotton bras and undies. Nylon and poly aren’t good for women’s hidey parts. Plus a breezy kimono is always a good thing to cover with because I can’t wear things with synthetic chemicals in sunscreens . Umbrellas ☂️ , straw hats 👒 and layers. Ask the Bedouin’s. We're in a heatwave in the UK so we are hotter than the South of France currently. It seems that the mid nineties + is becoming more normal where I am in the UK, I'm in the South East. Where as these temperatures used to be once every few years! I have met Bedouins, wonderful people, very welcoming. I was in Tunisia and we got to look round one of their cave homes, the government in the 80s/90s decided that people living in caves was a bad look imternationally so they built all these cheap houses and made them move. They soon moved back as their caves are warmer than the houses in winter (their winters aren't cold by our standards) and much cooler in summer as they have an open air section with rooms off of it. They even have satellite TV in their caves! I visited in 2001 and loved it, unfortunately it's considered a bit too unstable to visit now. The hotel I stayed in was attacked by a terrorist shooting people on the beach and he went into the hotel. Staff saved a lot of people that day. Last time I saw the beautiful interior on television all the furniture was covered and the marble on the walls showed the scars of the bullets. So sad as that was a 5* plus hotel and being Tunisia super cheap for what you got. The people there are wonderful and unlike other Muslim countries the women don't have to wear a hijab and can get divorced etc... so it's a more modern country. Where did you meet Bedouins?

    My escape from the heat is largely about picking the right fabrics! I try to go for very thin silk and viscose, because those can feel very cooling, and as for the items themselves, I go for oversized, short sleeve shirts, and then either very loose breezy pants or shorts. This setup also allows for great air circulation, and because of the thin sleek fabric, it barely feels like I’m wearing anything : ) (silk is quite an expensive fiber and hard to produce, so of course I prefer to thrift it)

I also personally add a thin, billowy, long-sleeved 100% cotton or real silk kaftan or "kimono" over the skirt and crop top. WIll it look slightly Biblical? Yes. Crop tops are a no-go for me because of modesty reasons. But I thrifted a Madewell 100% cotton tank top that basically had vents instead of regular seams. It is brilliant because it keeps me covered but also lets a breeze in. I wish there were more of them like this!

      why is a crop top worse than a tank top? actually wondering. is your belly button holy?

      To each their own, but if you're interested in trying out crop tops, pair them with high waisted skirts or pants. You can also try wearing a camisole underneath.

    long skirts/dresses are the best. I'm lazy, sweaty, and haven't shaved my legs in a week but with a long skirt no one can tell AND it still looks like I tried to look nice 😂

    My childhood was a British rock follower. Currently I'm 50 years, but grow with British bands, a german time when capitols wore Bonn and Berlin in my musical taste with Depeche Mode The cure, to Ramstein (yes, a twisted taste that I enjoy back @ 90's changes) something that really help me growth mentally speaking, as well as cultural respectful.
    Greetings from Baja California México ❤ I love your ideas and what's you share with your followers.

    Black cotton type dress, oversized shirt and sandles for me or trainers when needed. Sunhat, when I remember it, to finish it off as a look. I love my black summer dress. Light and flowy. Perfect.
    Back up is shorts, sandles/trainers and a vest top with a flowy long sleeved top over it.

    I love longer skirts in the summer, ones that have volume, like a broomstick skirt or a tiered skirt. If it is full enough, you can tuck up the hem to get some air under.

    Long skirts or maxi dresses ALL THE WAY!!
    Whenever we do tourist stuff and are outside a lot, I am in a maxi dress! And broad-brim hat, and super comfy cushy sandals. I feel much more stylish than in sneakers and jean shorts that bind. …and I am MUCH cooler in that breathable dress. Ahhh.
    P.S. bring along a mini umbrella in your purse and use it as a parasol if you need. yes.

    It's all about the material and not the color. Everyone asks me how I wear black and I try to make sure the material is thin or breathable. I have some blouses that are light pink or beige but they are hot cause of the material it's made from. I live in Texas so even in the winters it's hot
