But for entering and leaving an affair, I can manage what I call my 2-hours flats. You’ve just solidified my choices, and I can be very intentional about flesh colored flat. Let’s do it!!

I am early 40 but since my early 30s hard a problem with heels after chemo because it mainly attacked my feet legs and hands. It sucks but I manage flats for a little bit. Glad I found people who understand.

I have those Dr Marten Mary Janes in lots of different colors. Wore them with a ankle length floral dress to a wedding last year. Made dancing easy!
Where do you buy these shoes in different colours? I've only seen black and i really want other colors but couldn't find them :
Dr. Martens site, Dillards, Journeys, TUK site, Ebay, Macys, Saks OFF 5th, those are some of the places and I've been getting Docs since the early 80s and don't get rid of them unless a friend asks for a particular pair.
Docs are the best shoes I've ever worn! I've been wearing them since the 90's and I haven looked back. It is a bit hard to look really dressed up and "adult" in them, but honestly... who wants to be an adult anymore.

I'm also a 22 year old with a joint condition and I was always forced to wear heels to weddings. The last time I went to a wedding I just took my shoes off and danced barefoot
I just went to my nephew's wedding & I thought I'd last a long time in my sensible wedge sandals, but it was super hot & my feet swelled up fairly early on. Thankfully I brought my slide flat sandals. They had shiny , rhinestones on the band across my feet & were so comfortable. I happily wore them for the majority of the wedding reception. I noticed many of the ladies wore similar flat sandals & slides. Thank you, Andrea, for covering this topic. Great to see you cover different options for those of us that want to wear elegant & stylish footwear, but not heels, for more formal occasions.
I wore my wedge, I'd call them ballet flats but they were wedges. So idk what you'd call them.
Any who. I wore those to my sister's wedding bc I was in ankle braces on both feet, and due for ankle surgery in a few months. I thought I'd be ok in the wedges. Nope. Barely had them on a few minutes and my feet were in agony!

@tejaswoman My rhinestone slide sandals are by a brand called Mari A. I bought them at TJ Maxx or Marshall's (can't remember which) for $20.
In hot and dry weather, espadrilles are a very good option.

The ballet flats resurgence has led me to a new existential crisis... I can't possibly be the only person whose feet *SCREAM* after wearing ballet flats for 3 minutes. I had the same problem in highschool but I used to think it was because I only wore sneakers. However, now that I have tried almost all kinds of shoes, ballet flats remain the most serious offenders for some reason, even worse than high heels.
Same. I dont know why, its not the lack of support. I can go bare foot, wear saddles or wear lace up thin soled flats or even flip flops but ballet flats make my feet hurt. Except 1 pair, I found a pair with an ankle strap and zip up heel (so it had a substantial heel cup and toe box because I loathe toe cleavage) those are great. Perhaps we are keeping our feet tense if they feel like they will fall off or the heel will slip?
@@evil1by1 slipping off is definitely an issue for me! No matter how tight or large the ballet flats are, I always feel like they'll slip off my feet after 2-3 steps. I have even tried getting 1 or 2 sizes smaller but it still happened. I have the same problem with loafers, but they don't injure my feet like the ballet flats. But lace-up shoes, which have a similar structure with the added security of laces, are some of my favourite and most comfortable pairs. My mother has insisted that it's due to my "unladylike walking" but I'm not sure about the mechanics of this theory.
I agree. Ballet flats dig into the top of my foot, and have no support. I tried to keep a pair but finally gave up and put them in the goodwill pile! I got some sturdy loafers instead…not very cute but much more comfy!!! I’m still looking for a cuter option…those mary jane docs might fit the bill if they are comfy.

Yes! Same here, I wore a flowercrown today, felt a bit silly in the beginning, but then just decided to do it and I got a compliment.
I don't know, back in the day in highschool, you would've been mocked for bold choices, but anyone above 20 can pretty much wear whatever they want and will likely not get bullied for it being a 'silly choice' or something.

This was such an important video to make! Thank you! So many people have health problems and cannot wear heels. Pointed toe flats are also a lovely option.
After a fall and injuring my right foot, heels are no longer an option unless it’s a true kitten heel.

Something I would add to any type of shoes worn at weddings: always break them in before going to a special event. That way, if they feel uncomfortable, cause blistering, make your soles sore, or cause chafing on the back of your heels, you’ll have plenty of time do either find replacements or hit the dr. Scholl’s section of the shoe store.
As someone who never wear heels but wants oh so much to look stylish at least some of the time, I would wear all those options ❤

I have ribbon sandals. They're not great for doing a lot of walking because no matter how you tie them they're not very stable. However, they're still really great because the ribbon can be switched out for any other ribbon or cord, so they always match anything you wear.

I'd probably wear the loafers with some sort of pant situation, and ballet flats with a dress. I don't have any nude ballet flats, but you have just convinced me to get at least one pair.

I wore slip-on cream leather clogs to my own wedding. They had a very slight heel but matched my dress exactly and were extremely comfortable.
Are slip-ons practical for dancing too?
@@cb9825 yes, these were quite snug and good for dancing unless it got frantic. In those days, we girls danced in our stocking feet quite a lot though. Or carried those little roll-up slippers in our purse.

I'm that odd one out, who doesn't feel 'nude' goes with everything, though. I don't think, just because it matches the skintone, it can be worn with anything.
I'd wear either white or matchy-matchy with one of the colours of the dress.

With the green dress black shoes looked fine.
I didnt love the nudes either. I'm not a huge fan of nude shoes, they are good to have because sometimes an outfit is just impossible to find a good shoe for but as a first choice....very rare. I dunno with a dressy loud outfit it makes your bottom half look...undone or like an afterthought imo. Its not bad, I completely get why people do it and it's valid im just weird and it bothers me.

I know you mean well but "Less abled" is really not a good term and we should bouncing around the word disability and stop acting like disability is a bad word. I say that as a disabled person myself. Trust me, unless someone specially asks you to call them something else, most disabled people prefer to just be called disabled as that is who we are and there's no shame in that. Disabled is not a bad word. I don't mean any of this with hostility btw, just trying to educate.

You have inspired me to try new combinations of my clothes and to think outside the box (I was a Betsey Johnson girl decades ago and loved funky fashion) but one of the rare occasions that I wasn't a huge fan of the options. I always opt for metallics (I am a Magpie for sure) as my neutral but I didn't care for the one's you chose for a more formal event. I would go with something less heavy and more delicate in the sandal category or glittery silver ballet flats. I like silver as my neutral (not much of a gold fan because I grew up in the harvest gold and avocado green era thus ruining gold for me). Just my opinion. Still a fan though - just not this time. What I really want to learn is how to wear a harness and look edgy but not kinky. You do it so well.

Oohh... I love it. I've always been the flat sandals type of girl. I'm confident enough to wear flat sandals on a wedding. And my pick would always be black or silver. I have always wanted to try ballet shoes but, for some reasons, what I bought doesn't always work with my outfits. Now I know why. It's because what I bought was black. I'd try to buy a skintoned one next time. Thanks for the idea!
When I wore girlie, I usually did "heels to the ceremony, take them off to dance." I never went to a wedding fancy enough that anyone cared.
