    We had a rainy summer back during Wrath, so I figured, that was the time for "Insane". I spent 5 weeks in Dire Maul doing the Shen'dralar and Steamwheedle reps for 8-12 hours per day, until I was doing it in my dreams too. I leveled a rogue just to do the pickpocketing for Ravenholdt. The most timeconsuming was Darkmoon, which is soooo easy now. I completely lost count of all the hours/days/weeks, I spent picking herbs, grinding herbs and making cards, hoping to get complete decks to hand in. Even tho ppl cant tell, that I got the title pre-nerf, Im still very proud of it, coz I know.
    And after that, all other grinds dont really seem that bad.

    • @moosa1037
      @moosa1037 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Damn you actually went insane while doing it. Also the feat of strength probably has the date written next to it, so you can use that as proof of you completing it pre-nerf.

    I did the original Insane grind (completed it in 09). I have over 70+ exalted reps. It was a brutal grind (along with a few others). You were spot on describing all the things that had to be done. I spent a lot of gold buying cards and decks - I lived in the auction house and trade chat buying up diamonds (months)! The librams were a PITA because of them being unique and all the individual mats required to turn one in. It truly made me angry when Blizz nerfed it and just gave us a legacy achieve for Shen'dralar. I haven't worn the title in years because of that. Thankfully, I still have my original PvP titles!
    Also I love your videos so much! They're clear, concise and well researched. Keep it up!

    For anyone wondering, killing the goblin for 1 rep each with a 7 minute respawn, assuming any downtime, such as combat time killing him, taking a second to notice he spawns etc. We'll say 7 minutes and 15 seconds each cycle, or otherwords 435 seconds.
    435 x 20,999 = 9134565 seconds
    9134565 / 60 = 152242.75 minutes
    152242.75 / 60 = 2537.3791667 hours
    2537.3791667 / 24 = 105.724139445 days
    now 105.7 days doesnt sound too "insane" but you have to remember thats 105.7 days straight all wow through out. So lets say this man spends his day in 3s, 8 hours work, 8 hours grind, 8 hours sleep.
    thats 317.1723958334 days. Accounting for little things in life that can distract someone for a "day". You might as well say this man spent 1 year, one entire year killing the same green skin scrublord. There should be a honor held in his name.

    • @Robertsmac
      @Robertsmac 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      There was very little combat time to kill the mob, it was pretty much 1 shottable by any 70-80 so hitting a /tar /cast macro was enough to kill it. They also increased the rep to 5 per kill sometime after the first 2 people did it (I believe it was a patch to no longer give reduced rep for being too high level difference.)

    The hardest grind in WoW history, and almost in MMO history, was the vanilla PvP honor system grind to rank 14. In order to make progress from rank 12-14, you needed to be in the top ~10-15 spots for your entire server in pvp honor points earned (by killing players or winning battlegrounds). For most heavily populated servers, this meant you needed 1,000,000-2,000,000 pts in a week. In order to not LOSE progress in rank 13, you needed to be in the top 1-4 positions for your entire server for honor points earned at the end of the week. Considering during vanilla that most servers had upwards of 3,000+ players, and many of those players were cheating by playing in shifts (or paying asian farmers to grind pvp points for them), you basically had to be pvp'ing for about 12-16 hours a day, every day, to have any chance. If you were #1 in honor points for your server each week, you could get through rank 13-14 in about 3 weeks. But most people couldn't maintain #1, and they'd fall to #2-10 in honor points, and then it would be much longer to get through rank 13. Most people that got rank 14 were so burned out on the game they quit and/or sold their account. I've heard there are some worse grinds in Lineage, but very few MMO's had grinds that required someone play an average of 15 hours a day to not lose progress in said grind

    • @cornflakeshumunculus8373
      @cornflakeshumunculus8373 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I never played vanilla but Jesus Christ that’s some serious dedication right there.

    • @plops993
      @plops993 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cornflakeshumunculus8373 I did it, and it got me really good at pvp. Went on to get rank 1 in 5v5 and rank 1 in 3v3 for arenas during TBC. You would think that anyone pvp'ing that much every day would "git gud" but there was a stigma against r14 players, that they just had lots of free time but weren't good at pvp. I think that because a lot of people who got rank 14 paid asian farmers to grind for them, or had guildmates share their account in shifts secretly, a lot of them didn't improve much at pvp

    It's been years since I did this (shendralar included) and I always forget about ravenhold, only the vaguest of memories of running lbrs on my rogue alt. I maintained honored with bloodsail by grinding enemies close to ratchet and on the ships in Grizzly hills. Went through a lot of audiobooks back then, James Bond, wheel of time and the like. Wouldnt do it again but I wear the title proudly still, my personal badge of stupidity.

    • @luckyharbinger2054
      @luckyharbinger2054 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    'The Insane' title back in Wrath took months. I remember spending days of game time in Dire Maul farming that quest and Thousand Needles farming herbs for Darkmoon cards. People that did it after Cata - and especially after the Darkmoon Island rolled around - really have no idea how 'insane' it actually was back then. These days it's more like 'The Mildly Mental' :P

    • @madseasonshow
      @madseasonshow  7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I personally haven't done it yet, but luckily I had a buddy who knocked it out who supplied me with most of this info. I also had another friend who did shen'dralar in Vanilla(at least I think it was vanilla)....crazy!

    • @Esinar
      @Esinar 7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Damn, Shen'Dralar back in Vanilla is definitely insane. One thing I never understood is why the Vanilla rep 'Thorium Brotherhood' was never added to the Insane title. It's another one of those Vanilla reps that's super grindy to get and yet has no cool achievement reward. It was just later kinda mixed in with a dungeon rep meta achievement from Cataclysm.

    • @dantheman070
      @dantheman070 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thorium Brotherhood exalted rewards are the patterns for FR gear/ Weapons to be used in MC.... have to remember when these reps were put into game. I had exalted TB in vanilla.

    Just found this vid. Great channel. I started with Shendralar and was part way through when they removed it. I use "the Insane" on every character, no other. If you want the title, be prepared to do nothing else in the game or it will take forever. You have to commit. The only thing that I can say about the vid is to get your goblin reps up to exalted first, then work on Bloodsail. Rather than Booty Bay kills, I went to the pirate ship SE of Stromgarde in Faldir's Cove and repeatedly killed the NPC's. You can get your Goblin rep back so you can again enter the cities with cloth turn-ins to a Goblin outside of Booty Bay. I haven't gotten around to it. Darkmoon rep was costly. Inscription didn't exist so all cards were obtained from drops or buying on AH.

    Tbh, I'm not really sure, which one was worst for me - Insane in the membrane or Hero of Shattrath. (Goddamn basilisk eyes... )With all the grind, at some point you just zone out and don't really pay attention. BUT, the achievements that nearly drove me insane were:
    1. Draenor curator - 1289 total solves. RNG stacked up on RNG, then more RNG on top. And with no flying at the start, this felt like the most mind-numbingly tedious achievement I've done. Oh yeah, and no reward for that either, except for you get to throw your junk in the pantry of the Horde garrison.
    2. Going to need a bigger bag - Sometimes I still have nightmares about farming crabs. Sadly I missed the time when the pets were tradable and counter towards the achiev. As of now, I am still missing 3-4 items, but I gave it up. It's just not worth it. Killing crabs for a full hour, just so it spawns on the other side of the island, where some trigger-happy dude blows all his cds on it, as if he just saw Sargeras himself. For a measly 10ap? Good riddance.

  • @MotocrossRacingOnline
    @MotocrossRacingOnline 7 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    Justicar / Conqueror in its hardest iteration was really brutal also. Dunno when it was hardest. Post mark rep turning removal and pre rep increases for winning etc. So i guess during WOTLK!

    • @MotocrossRacingOnline
      @MotocrossRacingOnline 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also at a point during the game the goblin factions & Bloodsail had to be in the required reputaton state at the same time. Again i dunno when this was but i remember grinding a mob in Arathi Highlands for it since he gave rep for Bloodsail without lowering rep with goblin factions. (kinda like the repeatable dire maul quest)

    • @Microphunktv-jb3kj
      @Microphunktv-jb3kj 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      vanilla/bc/wotlk rep grinds were actually grinds... i bet the game is dumbed down so hard with next iterations.. i played 2 months in cata.. and was suprised how dumbed down/ casual the game had become... 2weeks, epics.. i think in pretty much 3-4weeks i was done with entire content and nothing to do...
      if id me cosmetics / pet collector.. would be fun in wow probably.. otherwise it seems that this game has become nothing more than that... might be mistaken...

    Grinding out the tailoring sets during tbc was a pretty big pain. I did both the spell fire and frozen shadow weave on a mage and spriest along with the spell strike pants and hood on both. Also hitting exalted with all the dungeon reps although most of the rewards weren't that good for my toons and just did it because I liked the dungeons during tbc.

    I did this rep in wrath. There was issues on high pop servers and the amount of instances that would be open server side. I stood at dire maul trying to get in over and over for hours to do turn ins. I called it the instance monster and he was a pain. The lock boxes were easy if you had a rogue. Just have him go to scholomance and pick pocket the mobs off from gandlings then over to raz room. By the time you finish you run the pockets would respawn. Then drop the mailbox and send to the main you were grinding for. Very time consuming but a race for server first.

    The hardest grind for me was Battlemaster title. It had tons of luck tied to it. You actually had to put forth tons of effort in BGs to cap, win games, get kills and do the objectives. It took me two years of almost straight PvP and I finally got it in 2010.

      lol you played an alliance toon on a horde server didnt you ... did that grind when it first came out on my undead mage ... took 2 weeks .... did it on my human mage in 3 weeks just after too ... yeah different server alliance dominated .... seems people forget that min level toon can still run flags if the team is willing to cover their skinny butt while they haul hiney back across the map .... best toon to do it in is a gnome mage engineer ... in frost spec with arcane POM .... drop target dummies and any freeze spells you got when nearing enemies and blink away then add a pot of run speed and pom and blink and your across 90% of the field .... warsong was the best place to bg as a gnome pre riding as you were small enough to actually hide your name plate and toon in bushes and under carts ... no other toon could do that .... after the main rush past you snuck into their chamber and told your side get ready im grabbing the flag comming .... either tunnel ramp or gy .... the teamates would pull the mob to the opposite side and you did your thing ... the helaers would space out along the field and at your tunnel area to keep you alive and the rest would smack anything that came close ... while you froze it or delayed it anyway you could .... then of course the never fail have to clobber thier flag runner as he tries to leave with your flag while you are carrying his ... sooo many fights between flag carriers with 20 peeps in one room all trying to kill everything in sight lol

    I remember back in vanilla, there was no good blue necklace for hunters, in the dungeons, and I my guild was just starting to raid (which they had to do with another guild to get enough people) so I got exalted with DMF. So many bat eyes. So many bags full of bat eyes and DMF cards. After all that grinding, my guild began to raid while I was at work, and that was the first time I quit WoW.

    I already had all the requirements for the achievement when it came out, and got it day one (toon: Multani on Vol'jin EU if you want to check).
    I really enjoyed grinding reputations back then, it actually was my main occupation outside of raiding.
    I'm not even sure I could stand doing it again today.
    "Funny" story: I wanted to reach 1000/1000 exalted with the Bloodsail Buccaneers. In order to do so, I was farming that goblin NPC (24-48h respawn) on a remote island.
    I stopped at around 500/1000 (can't remember why, maybe they removed the NPC from the game, or I just got sick of it).
    Then, when Cataclysm hit, I worked my way towards quest achievements, as they revamped all the areas in the game. When completing a random quest in Swamp of Sorrows (involving goblins), I almost fainted when it triggered a 375 hit on my Bloodsail rep.
    I abandoned all low level quests I had in my log and never got back in that area.

    My most hardcore achievements was a toss up between this, Hero of Shattrath and LoreMaster. All were amazingly painful.
    Originally, insane required the reps to be exalted at the same time, but they modified it late into LK.
    Pre-buffed DMF exhalted was a nightmare. I spent a good 300k during LK on card decks (mage and rogue) for DMF turn ins, plus tarot’s for trinkets.
    For some stupid reason I was dumb enough to do it again on my DK during WoD after completing it on my priest in LK.

    It was possible to kill pirates outside of Ratchet to restore reputation with all the goblin factions (all the way to exalted in fact). These pirates were not part of the Bloodsail Buccaneer faction, and caused no reputation loss with them. They rewarded 2.5 reputation with Ratchet and 1 with the other 3 goblin factions if my memory serves right. If you were the appropriate level for the mobs, they rewarded the full amount: 25 with ratchet and 5 with the rest. A patch later in wotlk (I can't remember which), made all quests and kills yield the full reputation amount, even if they were trivial ("gray") to you. Noteable, the hydraxian waterlords faction (Molten Core) would take absurdly long time to get to exalted with at level 80 without this change, with just over 200 reputation available per week (Most bosses would give 100 rep at the appropriate level, but level 80 was too high, and get an 80% penalty).

    If you didn't want to lose rep with the Buccaneers, you could also do quests for this goblin located in western Feralas on the shore, just outside of the dock for the ship that takes you to Feathermoon stronghold. He had 2 repeatable quests that required you to circle the area around him and kill giants and water elementals. Simple stuff. I remember the rep increase wouldn't be displayed though. If you wanted to check your progress, you had to log out and back in.

    There are two that I found nearly as hard or harder than some of these. I have the Winterspring Frostsaber. That grind was ridiculous. I was also exalted with the Timbermaw in Vanilla, before there was a repeatable quest or turn ins. I got 1 rep for killing the normal enemies and 5 for killing the single enemy 'boss' in the game. There is also one non-grind farm that drove me crazy, and that was trying to farm a crimson whelpling in Wetlands.

  • @CroneLife1
    @CroneLife1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you were trying to regain your lost rep with the Cartel and keep your rep with Bloodsail back in TBC and Wrath, killing the pirates by Ratchet and in Tanaris was the way to go. The ones up on the plateau above Ratchet gave you rep for all the Cartel *except* Ratchet, and the ones in Tanaris on the coast gave you rep for Ratchet. As for the Darkmoon Faire, yes, Cards were the only 'quick' way to get rep with the Faire once you got above a certain rep level. The other slower way was the turn-in of various animal parts and items from Blacksmithing, Leatherworking, and Engineering. For example, Thorium Widgets. As for the others, I was at 0-level revered with Shen'Dralar when Blizzard removed that requirement and had amassed most of what I needed to complete. I was a MOST unhappy individual when they cancelled it.

    Awesome uploads lately man! keep up the good work,
    I really love seeing people put real serious time and effort into WoW videos, there's not very many people that are actively uploading interesting-quality content for WoW anymore
    (I know there are a few popular TH-camrs/Streamers but compared to MoP its decreased by a good amount).
    Also to the people that complain these videos have been done by so many people... just stop
    There's nothing wrong with someone making better quality videos with more clear information, Some things are just better with change. I remember when Thottbot was the Go-to site for everything wow related and WoW-head was considered crap.

    I don't know, I feel Winterspring Frost Saber Mount was still definitely top. At least you got the rep when killing the mobs most of the time or could use gold/gatherig for mutliple stuff.
    You got a quest, treked all the way through the zone to kill creatures. Then treked back to turn in. The first quest with meat was not as far but you were not guaranteed drops. You needed ten pieces of meat, 5 from two diff beasts. If you had a PERFECT drop rate and got one per mob it was equivlant to 5 rep per mob... Then you had to mount back to turn in. Mind you you had to mount through the sabers and sometimes they would swarm you and kill you if unlucky.
    The second quest required a longer run but you just needed kills. 10 kills, two named types of furbolg. So this time it was guaranteed 5 rep per mob, thing was it was a small area and competition existed... And then running back risking death to sabers and turning in.
    The third quest with frost giants I do not recall much. I just remember saying "F it not worth it".
    It took 2 entire freaking months of anywhere from 4 to 8 hours a day doing the same freaking quests over and over again...
    I honestly think this, precata ofc, belonged in that insanity achiev because lets be real... insanity.

    I remember having to level a rogue just to get the loot boxes. For some reason I have also done rep grinds and enjoy it for some reason. I just recently came back after a break from Legion to BFA and first thing I did was get all reps to exalted. Though a lot of that was to get flying also. I am stuck at 99 reps currently because I don't PVP and missing out on Silverwing Sentinels & League of Arathor. My next goal is to cap all the Friendships I don't have.
    For some reason rep grinding has always been my thing I can work on by myself. Yes I know I am dumb.
