I was given the Essence of Pure flame by my raid leader way back in Vanilla days. At the time I was a human Paladin and I had to be ultra careful with my DKP as there were a good few of us, and we had a bidding system. Highest bid of DKP wins the item. Naturally, no one at all wanted to spend even the base price of DKP on this Item, and it would often just be sharded or, as what happened to me, just given away. My raid leader picked a random Paladin and gifted the item. I didn't know what to do with at first, as even then I thought it pretty damn useless until I started thinking. Back then, retribution aura for the paladin used to reflect damage back at the attacker on hit. There were also a good few items out there that did a similar thing. Off the top of my head there was a ring from Blackrock Depths, and a engineering shield. So, I decided that I was going to go back to all them dungeons with the intent of collecting every single piece of damage reflection gear I could. I even switched out my profession for Engineering so I could get that shield. In the end and after a good few months of collecting, I managed to get a good amount of this gear for my pala and decided to try it out in the battlegrounds. I of course took consecrated ground as well as any talents to boost my damage reflection, and I had such fun just standing and healing myself whilst rogues and hunters just murdered themselves on me without me even really doing much in the way of fighting back. So, was the item bad? yes I would say it was bad, as it took me a lot of work, some luck and me being a Paladin to even get any use out of it. But I still had a lot of fun using it.
Essence of the Pure Flame is DOPE for AoE farming as a Paladin. Getting a bunch of "when struck" items comboed with ret aura, seal of wisdom, and healing allowed you to stay holy while farming gold.
Skullforge was insanely op against rogues, especially if you were a class without dots(Paladins). What's more is that the heal from the proc or the buff increased by a very good amount based on your +heal. Which was crazy OP when paladins used it with their tier gear against rogues who would try to restealth sap and try to bandage up only to come out of stealth and have their bandage interrupted, and as long as the dot was up the paladin would heal for nearly 1/4th of his hp while being cc'd because nearly all of their tier gear has +heal or spell power. It was a nightmare for rogues because you just couldn't stealth.
Was this changed in a patch or private server? Had this weapon for pvp against rogues and druids as paladin for quite some time but would switch as soon as rng apply the debuff. Can't say that this thing did ever more than 2 dmg or heal. Good never tryed it with gear that boosted shadowdps simply because it was reserved and or expensive.
@@Ras548 I only ever got the lawbringer set back in vanilla, so I used it along with skullforge reaver and force reactive disk almost everywhere outside raids and dungeons. It used to heal me 11 health per tick with that gear. I remember it that well because I've seen that number way too many times while playing the game than I needed to. When I switched to holy gear it would rise up significantly, around 40-50 heal per tick(with mc gear and little bit of bwl). The random spell damage items i got around ZG and AQ also boosted the spell damage tick but not that noticeably as I didn't really have that high spell damage gear, so I can confirm this as well that spell damage did affect the shadow tick damage. Not sure if its present on private servers as I stopped playing on them pretty soon as I started raiding for shady reasons. Would love to try it out again but classic is coming soon anyway. Please give feedback if this works on pservers.
@@JozuaJornandes Sry can't give you Feedback as the only Pserver I ever played was for TBC. I can only tell from my memories but could be wrong since I really only needed it for the stealthmechanic and my other gear was more a mix of AQ and Naxx with T2 mixed in. But hope that it scales with Spellpower would make the holypala pvp much more pleasant when classic comes again.
if you add Skullforge Reaver with that, it becomes insane i beleive, as the sword's proc also scales with spellpower. You have a double healing/dmg proc ON all the time.
Not a weapon/gear suggestion but it'd be awesome if you did the WoW Classic Race Picking Guide Horde Version. I've been looking forward to that and I know it was 2nd on your recent straw poll for next video so others are too.
Essence of the Pure Flame is invalueable for every aoe tanking set. Typically one of the best tanking items when not tanking a raid boss (especially in instances). Make yourselves a good thorns tanking set (cloak of flames, razor gauntlets, nagelring, force reactive disk+ Ramstein trinket + the helmet from gnomeregan + eventually that thunderfury) and you can even top those damage meters in any dungeon. Force reactive disk is a bit costly and will break almost every second dungeon though. Cheap warriors will use ramsteins shield or drillborer disk instead. Throw in some Crystal Spire for maximum efficiency. Especially useful with elemental or undead invasions.
I believe some people also used it when camping Time Lost Proto-drake. Sit at spawn for hours, when it spawned it attacks you, and I believe got tapped by the thorns damage.

@@madseasonshow aoe threat is a bit of a pain for warriors but thorns really does make tanking dungeons a lot easier. I would often use essence of pure flame and drillborer disk when farming Strat live.
Ya, Warriors Thorn gear was a winning strat during the Ahn Quiroj opening event. As soon as the Anubis mobs spawned they were already claimed when the video rendered. Made it essential to be in a 40 man raid just to get the ability to loot something.
@@madseasonshow It's actually very handy for classes that can aoe grind weak mobs. In particular in DM east, there's many packs of plants that can be aoe grinded easier with this item by priests, mages, druids, shamans, locks, and other classes. Decent way to farm cash and it doesn't involve being in a group or outdoors.

Something you missed with the Lion Horn is that, flavor-wise, the idea is that everyone in the group has one. The purpose is that everyone uses as many of them as possible. That way you can potentially keep the tank's armor increased by up to 750 all the time.
#7 Spire of the Stoneshaper, the staff that gives 1000 armor for 10 seconds sounds like a must have for druid flag runners in bgs for when the enemy team catches up to them.
I'm gonna admit something I've never admitted before. I started playing WoW around Christmas of ... 2008? Right after WotLK launched. I started on free trial after seeing the Mr. T "Night Elf Mohawk" commercial. I rolled Night Elf Warrior, and went on my way. I didn't really understand how huge the game was, I think it was great starting as Nelf because I went through to Darn and thought wow, this game is really big, and look at this city! Then I got over to Darkshore (RIP Auberdine), and started looking at the map... And I slowly realized that I had only seen a small island. It was amazing, that realization hitting me. Anyway, I had no idea what I was doing, I didn't know about all the websites and guides, and how to focus my talents or skills or stats... I just grabbed whatever looked like the numbers were bigger. I got to around level 25-28 maybe, and I had met like one person to play and quest with. She was around level 32 I think. We decided to go to Gnomeregan. We thought we'd 2-man it as far as we could go. We actually ended up beating the slime boss and getting through a good portion of it as I recall. Anyway, regardless of whether it was that first run or a second run with more people, it was very early because Hydrocane dropped. I got it and was like, wow, this is higher DPS than what I have now, and it's blue! So off I went as a Nelf Warrior noob with Hydrocane equipped. I remember questing and someone stopped and inspected me and laughed. He told me to switch it out ASAP. I asked him why and argued my point about it having more DPS than my previous weapon, etc. He explained a little bit to me and gave me a couple of websites to read about the game and Warriors. Probably the most embarrassing thing that ever happened to me in the game. I played from just after WotLK launch to just before BFA, with a short hiatus from Timeless Isle through the end of WoD. I miss it sometimes, my characters and everything, but I'm done. Free at last. Long live Fourthirteen, Night Elf Warrior, US-Stormrage and my alt army in . And my Horde alts, too...
my ironweave soul link warlock would keep that staff of stoneshape on this on him for when rogues vanished during pvp, procing it would force the rogue to jump you even with the extra armor up, blow a blind, or let you mount. Wasn't usable in a true stunlock, but given that I was an orc, it wasn't uncommon to resist a stun, and get this up before the gouge/blind came out.

Essence of the Pure Flame was useful for warrior AOE tanking. Often warriors would use it along with other items that caused damage when hit when fighting through the gauntlets in BWL and AQ40.
Essence of the Pure Flame was really good trinket for AQ40 after Sarture, that gauntlet for aoe tanking Skullforge reaver was good vs rogues as they couldn't stealth vs you Spire of the stoneshaper was used as fruid FC weapon, use and switch
Also skullforge rever has a good use for duels. Being able to apply a bleed to someone while your kiting them in their deadzone is really important for rogues who want to beat geared wars.
The bow/staff from the epic hunter quest was also an example of a weapon which you could transform to another on use like Vendorstrike and Benediction. The action would transform the bow into the staff and the staff into the bow. The two were only separated later on in another expansion.
Rhok'delar and Lok'delar! I had that on my Vanilla hunter main! The quest line to get that bow was fucking hard and time consuming as hell. Had to get the Ancient Petrified Leaf from Majordomo Executus' chest, AND the Mature Black Dragon Sinew from Onyxia. Then you had to solo 4 elite boss-like demons, WITHOUT a pet! Also, if you wanted the best quiver in the game, you needed to get the Mature Blue Dragon Sinew from Azuregos the ice dragon world boss while doing this quest! Such a crazy journey to acquire that bow/staff/quiver. The sense if accomplishment afterwards was unmatched though! RIP "Ubermenschy." Level 60 Troll Hunter, of guild "Eminence" My first WoW character, and main, on Deathwing, US Realm.
Essence of the Pure Flame isn't that bad, it's just really situational. That 13 thorns damage is pretty good for AoE threat, where every little bit counts.
Besides that i enjoy most of your videos very much, i want to point out how well-fitting your choice of music is in them. I became chills, when the guitar-theme of tes3 started playing.

As a vanilla warrior tank, I used thrown weapons in dungeons for pulls. The charge for guns or bows left too much time for patrolling mobs to interfere, and a bad pull that included a pat between two packs would often pull both packs (an almost inevitable wipe at the time). With a thrown weapon, you could aggro exactly what you wanted pretty much as soon as it came into range. There were very few ranged weapons with stats that weren't marginal for a tank. Of course, even marginal stat improvements were worth it in raids where the hunter was doing the pulling anyway.
skullforge reaver is actually very effective in the hands of any melee pvper and especially the right spec paladin. every leech tick will heal a pala with the right gear and spec for way more than the tooltip says, since +heal scales with the leech effect. enemies will be robbed of their ability to stealth or bandage.
more like robbed of their ability to be crowd controlled.... do a small amount of damage and healing and make them immune to sheep/blind/sap/gouge/trap/repentance etc.

Essence of pure flames is super useful for aoe farming Plus thorns effects tank sets (with dm gloves, drillborers/engi shield, cape, and ring) Not useless at all
I remember farming for two Skullforged Reavers on my warrior back in the day just because they sheathed on the back. But these days I miss the option to even dual wield one handed weapons on my warrior, so freaking tired of all weapons being on my back.... One thing that has really been lost over the years with WoW is the uniqueness of your own character. Sure we have transmog which is great and one of the main reasons why I still play the game. But when it comes to play style and gear, everything just uses the same stuff.
Essence of the Pure Flame + Engineer Shield + % Block highest stamina and armor gear = Aoe Tanking set for MC’s Dog and Imp, BWL Whelp in suppression room, a good number of trash in AQ40 and Naax. It’s not useless at all. Your videos are great, amazing editing , gorgeous voice really relaxing.

Paladin and Shaman gear only dropped for the wrong faction after the 2.0 pre-TBC patch. It wasn't really a bug and was never "fixed" because both factions ended up having all classes.
Chris Pratt that’s not true. I used to see pally gear all the time on horde. My roommate used to wear light forge shoulders on his warrior as a joke. We used to get pissed in MC when pally gear would drop. This was very early into raiding before BWL. We also used to put lightforge BOE bracers and stuff on the cross faction AH in Gadgetzan.
Yes this happened after the Tpre BC patch. I know because we were running Alt MC and BWL and we saw so much pally gear drop in BWL one night. Including double pally chest pieces. Need to dig out my photobucket account to find that screen shot.
@@rogerpodacterslastwish1520 Dungeon tier isn't locked to a class that is why it dropped, Paladin/Shaman only gear didn't drop for the other faction till the TBC pre-patch.
Yeah. They had the "Alliance has shamans and Horde has paladins now" coded in 2.0.1 even though you couldn't make belfs or space goats until the expansion proper dropped.

I definitely always took the axes off Voone on my Warrior, because they were indeed better for pulling than bows or guns, saving you around 2 seconds per pull and being able to time them better on the rare occasion you wanted to pull mobs while some were moving. Weapons could be swapped in combat, so you could put your stat stick bow or gun back on once you threw the axe. Pulling from a distance on druids was much easier - just use your instant cast Feral Faerie Fire. The tanking thorns trinket off of Ragnaros, while bad, at least had a unique effect that was hard to get as a passive. If you were tanking, say, the whelps in the suppression room, it would greatly facilitate you keeping aggro on them. If there are other large pulls of non-elites in raids (Onyxia whelps at least) it could be useful there as well. I don't think anyone really *wanted* to get it, but if one dropped, an engineer tank would probably take it to use at the same time as their Force Reactive Disk.
If I recall correctly, some of these are not flawed, but rather, lost their value when game mechanics changed during development. For example, spell damage scaling supposedly originally applied to the magical damage of several of these items, so if someone with spell damage gear equipped the skull forge reaver, the life drain proc would be considerably higher. As the game approached release, and ever in some cases after, the mechanics changed until these items became pale in comparison to their former intended design.
If you have never seen it, you need to watch " Illegal Danish Super Snacks" It's on TH-cam. One of the classic one-liners of all time for a Paladin was the Paladin saying to himself, " I should have worn a dress..." Probably THE BEST WoW inspired video of all time.

Ah Vendorstrike! I love that polearm so much. Why you ask? Well, I was 2nd hunter on the DKP list behind the class lead. He was big into pvp and wanted it for hurting people in pvp. I never told him to get it, but I certainly never dissuaded him either. So when he got it, I roflmao'd and screamed YEEESSSS! as now the leaf would be mine. And it was as it dropped two or three resets after. Rhok'delar was mine! OMNOMNOMNOM! (Sad story, when BC hit, I was the 1 of 2 hunters in our guild that got it honestly. The others that got it paid people to do it for them. Sigh.)

Skullforge Reaver isnt a bad weapon at all, only for raidiing, for pvp its slow 30sec dot, works amazing against rogues and ferals effectually removing their ability to stealth, its slow attack speed makes procs very relliable and the fact its a life steal ability makes it synergise in pvp heavily with Lifesteal enchant. Saw a Knight lieutenant holy palla use this in his pvp build and he could out duel anyone.
@@Shikaschima Well im currently playing the lightshope server, and i can assure you thats not always the case, in this match up the palla was holy spec, tanky as hell and the rogue was looking for resets, so no it wasnt over quickly went on for atleast a minit
It's a good Shockadin weapon till you have someting better. It even scales with spellpower but like you said, it keeps people in combat and disables restealth.
You know something sad?... reputation items that required exalted in BFA are way useless than these, when you hit exalted wtf are you going to do with a 355ilvl piece of gear when you are already 370+... brilliant blizzard. Sometimes I think blizzard is only keeping this game alive because of the money they make out of people's feeling of what this game used to be.
Same thing happened in TBC. The vendor epics attached to reps were KZ/T4 equivalent. By the time I hit exalted we were in SSC. Even running heroics to get alts and new guildies attuned. Yet some of the season 1 PvP rewards were massive upgrades depending on your class. I used them from KZ into Battle for Hyjal.
Incorrect on the AoE tanking bit Druids have the best aoe treat out of the tanks in Vanilla, except for when Undead were involved in which case yeah Paladins were better In terms of single target druids & warriors are pretty comprable, the reason warriors were hailed as the king over druids is mainly due to stuff like warriors being uncritable
Exactly. We had a warrior and a feral druid tank in my first raiding guild and it was pretty common knowledge that druid=spikier damage but easy AoE threat and warrior=harder to gain AoE threat but easier to heal.
To say that your channel is underrated would be a huge understatement... TH-cam should promote TH-camrs like you who actually put the effort into their videos. I love your channel don't stop what you are doing and keep the awesome work up :)!
im preaty sure the pala and shaman armor dropping for the oposit faction happend after the 1.12 patch. im not 100% sure, but i remember it dropping pretty often after that patch. maybe it was 1.11. I remember the disapointment every time a shaman set piece would drop...
@@stuartclarke8709 has it right, I remember we had dual shaman t2 legs drop from rag and asked a GM to fix it, all the gm said was along the lines of oh well.
@@gremlin141 I can't really blame them for not bothering to fix it. In less than a month you'd be replacing them with a green item anyway and it wasn't a bug since the pre-patch enabled it because both factions were getting access to all classes.

I don't undestand the argument about faction armors. Why wouldn't shaman armor drop for the alliance and vice versa? It's the same f*** raid. Same enemies, same bosses. It wouldn't make sense for the world to suddenly realize it is being raided by a specific faction. Meta gamers - I hate you so much. You take depth and immersion out of games for the sake of some stupid abstract mechanics.
I love these niche items which you call useless because it just gives you the opportunity to do things different than other players..you always eill find a use :D

Shaman gear only dropped for Alliance in the TBC pre-patch, Warriors weren't the best tanks because they had taunts - they had one more than Druids, but they were actually worse at single target threat than Druids. They were the best because they had everything a tank needed: Shield Wall, Defensive Stance (10% damage reduction), Taunts, Block, and no mana.
In vanilla, there was a quest that had your retrive a cursed trinket. It quite literaly was a trinket that was cursed. On equip you would take dmg constantly. The goal was to take it to someone to cleanse it. I got an idea to use it as i was flying above the IF airfield atop the mountain on the flight to Menethil Harbor, to die and then rez using my soulstone on my warlock. It did work, as i died right above the airfield, but right before i touched the floor as my body was falling i got teleported to the IF flightmaster.... Still a neat little detail from vanilla i wanted to share. I can't remember the name of the trinket or the quest anymore, but i think i had to take it to certain night elf druid, probably in Darnasus. Edit: The name of the trinket was [Crystal of Zin-Malor] Edit 2: Yeah... the "druid" i had to take it to was Archdruid Fandral Staghelm... maybe you've heard of that guy.... jose juan andrade It’s a really usefull trinket for tanking certain boss in vanilla that inflict status affect that are cancelled when you take damage ( the way skull of impending doom would break polymorph)

Weapon procs like this and spell dots are why I always carried Potions of Restoration on me.

Essence of the Pure Flame is invalueable for every aoe tanking set. Typically one of the best tanking items when not tanking a raid boss (especially in instances). Make yourselves a good thorns tanking set (cloak of flames, razor gauntlets, nagelring, force reactive disk+ Ramstein trinket + the helmet from gnomeregan + eventually that thunderfury) and you can even top those damage meters in any dungeon. Force reactive disk is a bit costly and will break almost every second dungeon though. Cheap warriors will use ramsteins shield or drillborer disk instead. Throw in some Crystal Spire for maximum efficiency. Especially useful with elemental or undead invasions.
I believe some people also used it when camping Time Lost Proto-drake. Sit at spawn for hours, when it spawned it attacks you, and I believe got tapped by the thorns damage.

@@madseasonshow aoe threat is a bit of a pain for warriors but thorns really does make tanking dungeons a lot easier. I would often use essence of pure flame and drillborer disk when farming Strat live.
Ya, Warriors Thorn gear was a winning strat during the Ahn Quiroj opening event. As soon as the Anubis mobs spawned they were already claimed when the video rendered. Made it essential to be in a 40 man raid just to get the ability to loot something.
@@madseasonshow It's actually very handy for classes that can aoe grind weak mobs. In particular in DM east, there's many packs of plants that can be aoe grinded easier with this item by priests, mages, druids, shamans, locks, and other classes. Decent way to farm cash and it doesn't involve being in a group or outdoors.

Something you missed with the Lion Horn is that, flavor-wise, the idea is that everyone in the group has one. The purpose is that everyone uses as many of them as possible. That way you can potentially keep the tank's armor increased by up to 750 all the time.
#7 Spire of the Stoneshaper, the staff that gives 1000 armor for 10 seconds sounds like a must have for druid flag runners in bgs for when the enemy team catches up to them.
I'm gonna admit something I've never admitted before.
I started playing WoW around Christmas of ... 2008? Right after WotLK launched. I started on free trial after seeing the Mr. T "Night Elf Mohawk" commercial. I rolled Night Elf Warrior, and went on my way.
I didn't really understand how huge the game was, I think it was great starting as Nelf because I went through to Darn and thought wow, this game is really big, and look at this city! Then I got over to Darkshore (RIP Auberdine), and started looking at the map... And I slowly realized that I had only seen a small island. It was amazing, that realization hitting me.
Anyway, I had no idea what I was doing, I didn't know about all the websites and guides, and how to focus my talents or skills or stats... I just grabbed whatever looked like the numbers were bigger.
I got to around level 25-28 maybe, and I had met like one person to play and quest with. She was around level 32 I think. We decided to go to Gnomeregan. We thought we'd 2-man it as far as we could go. We actually ended up beating the slime boss and getting through a good portion of it as I recall. Anyway, regardless of whether it was that first run or a second run with more people, it was very early because Hydrocane dropped. I got it and was like, wow, this is higher DPS than what I have now, and it's blue!
So off I went as a Nelf Warrior noob with Hydrocane equipped. I remember questing and someone stopped and inspected me and laughed. He told me to switch it out ASAP. I asked him why and argued my point about it having more DPS than my previous weapon, etc. He explained a little bit to me and gave me a couple of websites to read about the game and Warriors.
Probably the most embarrassing thing that ever happened to me in the game. I played from just after WotLK launch to just before BFA, with a short hiatus from Timeless Isle through the end of WoD.
I miss it sometimes, my characters and everything, but I'm done. Free at last. Long live Fourthirteen, Night Elf Warrior, US-Stormrage and my alt army in . And my Horde alts, too...

my ironweave soul link warlock would keep that staff of stoneshape on this on him for when rogues vanished during pvp, procing it would force the rogue to jump you even with the extra armor up, blow a blind, or let you mount. Wasn't usable in a true stunlock, but given that I was an orc, it wasn't uncommon to resist a stun, and get this up before the gouge/blind came out.

Essence of the Pure Flame was useful for warrior AOE tanking. Often warriors would use it along with other items that caused damage when hit when fighting through the gauntlets in BWL and AQ40.

Also skullforge rever has a good use for duels. Being able to apply a bleed to someone while your kiting them in their deadzone is really important for rogues who want to beat geared wars.

The bow/staff from the epic hunter quest was also an example of a weapon which you could transform to another on use like Vendorstrike and Benediction. The action would transform the bow into the staff and the staff into the bow. The two were only separated later on in another expansion.
Rhok'delar and Lok'delar!
I had that on my Vanilla hunter main!
The quest line to get that bow was fucking hard and time consuming as hell.
Had to get the Ancient Petrified Leaf from Majordomo Executus' chest, AND the Mature Black Dragon Sinew from Onyxia.
Then you had to solo 4 elite boss-like demons, WITHOUT a pet!
Also, if you wanted the best quiver in the game, you needed to get the Mature Blue Dragon Sinew from Azuregos the ice dragon world boss while doing this quest!
Such a crazy journey to acquire that bow/staff/quiver.
The sense if accomplishment afterwards was unmatched though!

As a vanilla warrior tank, I used thrown weapons in dungeons for pulls. The charge for guns or bows left too much time for patrolling mobs to interfere, and a bad pull that included a pat between two packs would often pull both packs (an almost inevitable wipe at the time). With a thrown weapon, you could aggro exactly what you wanted pretty much as soon as it came into range. There were very few ranged weapons with stats that weren't marginal for a tank. Of course, even marginal stat improvements were worth it in raids where the hunter was doing the pulling anyway.
skullforge reaver is actually very effective in the hands of any melee pvper and especially the right spec paladin. every leech tick will heal a pala with the right gear and spec for way more than the tooltip says, since +heal scales with the leech effect. enemies will be robbed of their ability to stealth or bandage.

I remember farming for two Skullforged Reavers on my warrior back in the day just because they sheathed on the back. But these days I miss the option to even dual wield one handed weapons on my warrior, so freaking tired of all weapons being on my back.... One thing that has really been lost over the years with WoW is the uniqueness of your own character. Sure we have transmog which is great and one of the main reasons why I still play the game. But when it comes to play style and gear, everything just uses the same stuff.
Essence of the Pure Flame + Engineer Shield + % Block highest stamina and armor gear = Aoe Tanking set for MC’s Dog and Imp, BWL Whelp in suppression room, a good number of trash in AQ40 and Naax.

Paladin and Shaman gear only dropped for the wrong faction after the 2.0 pre-TBC patch. It wasn't really a bug and was never "fixed" because both factions ended up having all classes.
Chris Pratt that’s not true. I used to see pally gear all the time on horde. My roommate used to wear light forge shoulders on his warrior as a joke. We used to get pissed in MC when pally gear would drop. This was very early into raiding before BWL. We also used to put lightforge BOE bracers and stuff on the cross faction AH in Gadgetzan.
Cross-faction gear only dropped after the BC pre-patch.

Yes this happened after the Tpre BC patch. I know because we were running Alt MC and BWL and we saw so much pally gear drop in BWL one night. Including double pally chest pieces. Need to dig out my photobucket account to find that screen shot.
it didn't "only" drop after the patch, perhaps you were just lucky enough that you never had them drop for you prior to the patch.

Yeah. They had the "Alliance has shamans and Horde has paladins now" coded in 2.0.1 even though you couldn't make belfs or space goats until the expansion proper dropped.

also paladins only able to tank one target... not as if they are the best aoe tanks...
I definitely always took the axes off Voone on my Warrior, because they were indeed better for pulling than bows or guns, saving you around 2 seconds per pull and being able to time them better on the rare occasion you wanted to pull mobs while some were moving. Weapons could be swapped in combat, so you could put your stat stick bow or gun back on once you threw the axe. Pulling from a distance on druids was much easier - just use your instant cast Feral Faerie Fire.
The tanking thorns trinket off of Ragnaros, while bad, at least had a unique effect that was hard to get as a passive. If you were tanking, say, the whelps in the suppression room, it would greatly facilitate you keeping aggro on them. If there are other large pulls of non-elites in raids (Onyxia whelps at least) it could be useful there as well. I don't think anyone really *wanted* to get it, but if one dropped, an engineer tank would probably take it to use at the same time as their Force Reactive Disk.

If I recall correctly, some of these are not flawed, but rather, lost their value when game mechanics changed during development. For example, spell damage scaling supposedly originally applied to the magical damage of several of these items, so if someone with spell damage gear equipped the skull forge reaver, the life drain proc would be considerably higher. As the game approached release, and ever in some cases after, the mechanics changed until these items became pale in comparison to their former intended design.
Essence of the pure flame is certainly not bad.

Ah Vendorstrike! I love that polearm so much. Why you ask? Well, I was 2nd hunter on the DKP list behind the class lead. He was big into pvp and wanted it for hurting people in pvp. I never told him to get it, but I certainly never dissuaded him either. So when he got it, I roflmao'd and screamed YEEESSSS! as now the leaf would be mine. And it was as it dropped two or three resets after. Rhok'delar was mine! OMNOMNOMNOM! (Sad story, when BC hit, I was the 1 of 2 hunters in our guild that got it honestly. The others that got it paid people to do it for them. Sigh.)

Skullforge Reaver isnt a bad weapon at all, only for raidiing, for pvp its slow 30sec dot, works amazing against rogues and ferals effectually removing their ability to stealth, its slow attack speed makes procs very relliable and the fact its a life steal ability makes it synergise in pvp heavily with Lifesteal enchant. Saw a Knight lieutenant holy palla use this in his pvp build and he could out duel anyone.
... you ... know how quick PvP was over in Vanilla? As in "The fights take less than 5 seconds" quick over?
@@Shikaschima Well im currently playing the lightshope server, and i can assure you thats not always the case, in this match up the palla was holy spec, tanky as hell and the rogue was looking for resets, so no it wasnt over quickly went on for atleast a minit

Skullforge Reaver isnt that bad, its used for PvP to keep players in combat.
It's a good Shockadin weapon till you have someting better. It even scales with spellpower but like you said, it keeps people in combat and disables restealth.

You know something sad?... reputation items that required exalted in BFA are way useless than these, when you hit exalted wtf are you going to do with a 355ilvl piece of gear when you are already 370+... brilliant blizzard. Sometimes I think blizzard is only keeping this game alive because of the money they make out of people's feeling of what this game used to be.
They were pretty useful for a short period of time. This has pretty much been the case for a few expansions now with rep gear
Same thing happened in TBC. The vendor epics attached to reps were KZ/T4 equivalent. By the time I hit exalted we were in SSC. Even running heroics to get alts and new guildies attuned.
Yet some of the season 1 PvP rewards were massive upgrades depending on your class. I used them from KZ into Battle for Hyjal.
Nah. I mean, yeah, it sucks, but it's always been that way.
They were usefull if you grinded exalted in the first 2 weeks..

Druids have the best aoe treat out of the tanks in Vanilla, except for when Undead were involved in which case yeah Paladins were better
In terms of single target druids & warriors are pretty comprable, the reason warriors were hailed as the king over druids is mainly due to stuff like warriors being uncritable
Exactly. We had a warrior and a feral druid tank in my first raiding guild and it was pretty common knowledge that druid=spikier damage but easy AoE threat and warrior=harder to gain AoE threat but easier to heal.

im preaty sure the pala and shaman armor dropping for the oposit faction happend after the 1.12 patch. im not 100% sure, but i remember it dropping pretty often after that patch. maybe it was 1.11. I remember the disapointment every time a shaman set piece would drop...
I believe it was the pre TBC patch when the set items would drop for the wrong faction.

@@gremlin141 I can't really blame them for not bothering to fix it. In less than a month you'd be replacing them with a green item anyway and it wasn't a bug since the pre-patch enabled it because both factions were getting access to all classes.

I don't undestand the argument about faction armors. Why wouldn't shaman armor drop for the alliance and vice versa? It's the same f*** raid. Same enemies, same bosses. It wouldn't make sense for the world to suddenly realize it is being raided by a specific faction. Meta gamers - I hate you so much. You take depth and immersion out of games for the sake of some stupid abstract mechanics.

Shaman gear only dropped for Alliance in the TBC pre-patch, Warriors weren't the best tanks because they had taunts - they had one more than Druids, but they were actually worse at single target threat than Druids. They were the best because they had everything a tank needed: Shield Wall, Defensive Stance (10% damage reduction), Taunts, Block, and no mana.
In vanilla, there was a quest that had your retrive a cursed trinket. It quite literaly was a trinket that was cursed. On equip you would take dmg constantly. The goal was to take it to someone to cleanse it. I got an idea to use it as i was flying above the IF airfield atop the mountain on the flight to Menethil Harbor, to die and then rez using my soulstone on my warlock. It did work, as i died right above the airfield, but right before i touched the floor as my body was falling i got teleported to the IF flightmaster.... Still a neat little detail from vanilla i wanted to share. I can't remember the name of the trinket or the quest anymore, but i think i had to take it to certain night elf druid, probably in Darnasus.
Edit: The name of the trinket was [Crystal of Zin-Malor]
Edit 2: Yeah... the "druid" i had to take it to was Archdruid Fandral Staghelm... maybe you've heard of that guy....

You can run up there through Loch Modan. Its a bit of a pain but worth doing.
