I've been selling cars, new and used for almost 17 years and I've NEVER heard of any sales person saying that you cannot test drive unless you commit to a purchase. I would have walked into the dealership and informed the general manager of what they're telling customers. The milage thing is horse shit.
Dr Taco there was a Ford F-150 Shelby cobra super snake at the dealer it was 755 hp and they wouldn’t let me test drive it. The salesman said when you are spending 110,000 U.S dollars on a pickup truck you would won’t zero miles on it. I get that🤔

It happened to me once at a used car dealer. I had like a 3 year old car I wanted to trade to an older and bigger one. Guy was all like no testdrive unless your gonna buy it. I was like wtf, it wasnt that big of a deal, like 15k money+my car. Never happened to me before or since.
Exactly. Same here sold Nissan's when I got out of the Navy. Used cars are the $ makers as nobody knows how much they ripped off the other person.
I HATE CAR SALESMEN! My used Audi I got screwed hard on needed a car and got killed on it. I got my math wrong. Late night & really tired. So 2yrs after the timing chain needed replacement and it would be 4-5k for my mechanic to do it & 7k for the dealership.
So I traded it in for a Hyundai Veloster turbo the 1st yr produced. The GM was the same guy and said that the guy really F*CKED you on this. I smiled and said it was YOU. Asshat didnt even remember me! Even when he bummed smokes off me when he Worked at Capitol VW & sold me the Audi. They rolled the negative into a 2 yr lease and are it.
From that point on I use purchase programs & other discounts.
My 16 Cad ATSV Sedan had 7k mes on it. Got it 2019 fully loaded 80k sticker with 10k paint job that's 1 of 99 only. And its Tuned by previous owner, so no turbo lag ext. Just a beast, love this car so much. But the drivers seat is too high and wont lower enough to make it feel sporty when driving. Feels like I'm driving a truck from seating position. Other than that & build quality ( always get the extended warranty to 100k)
@@just-incase3483 I get that. Any kind of higher performance, high dollar vehicle is different. That said, serious buyers will still be able to drive high priced vehicles before they commit to purchasing

Yeah. I've been told trust none of em and do lotsa research beforehand. Basically, if the car ticks certain boxes you've got MUST HAVE/NOT then its a done deal.

When they let you take the car home that is called " The puppy dog close ". The idea being when someone takes something home (puppy,car etc.) they fall more in love with it and keep it. There are many many closes but this one is usually used last after everything else has failed.

I would had said to the sales person can't test it OK. So does that mean you would buy my second hand car with out test drive or checking it then? What is I wanted to test drive a new car could I do that or would I have to buy it first? Would you buy a car without a test drive then? If there was a lot of people around I would had saifd those things even louder so they could hear me.
Also, we sales people take used cars to the corner store, to go get lunch, to pay bills.. Wherever!! Lol

I work on car dealer for a year as a salesman. There is a cars, one for every model that used for test drive purpose only. You do test drive to test the car, you dont have to buy right away after test. After 10 test drive i manage to sold 3 cars.
Remember the Ford laser? The little 2 door I had a mate who bough one for 50 bucks it did 600,000 km before it was finished. Drove like a go kart.

I saw a cute little used Acura Integra at a car lot that I wanted to test drive.The owner was ready to close up when he told me that I could take it home and bring it back the next morning.I drove it to a garage who gave it the all clear and I bought it.

Giving the car a test drive is part of how they get the customer excited to get the customer inside sign those papers!! It’s all about getting the customer excited to buy.

One dealership near me will pay you to test drive at certain times, so people can see their cars on the road.
If someone told me they had a 1959 miller-meteor chassis in spray can guardsmen blue, but the motor needed new rings, valve guides, a muffler, suspension work. I'd be checking out the VIN & Chassis codes to verify its real, and buying my Ecto-1 project, sight unseen.

I have never bought a new car. I did buy a used Dodge Durango from a used car dealership. When I first looked at and agreed to buy it. It had a Luggage rack on the roof. When I went to pick it up the rack was gone. Damn conmen.

I used to think it was impossible to sell a car without a test drive too. Then I went to work in sales at Tesla, and I was proven wrong! Loads of people buying the model S online never even having seen it in real life, let alone test driven it!

I've bought 1 used car from a lot & the advertised mileage was higher than the actual mileage to account for people test driving.
I work for Mazda in Bunbury mate. Totally do you a good deal on a CX-5, but.... You can only drive it if you buy it! Hahaha, can't believe that guy said that!

For new cars, I’d have to agree with the dealer. Unless they have a demo car that they use exclusively for test driving and you happen to want the same model. I personally wouldn’t want to buy a “new” car that has been test-driven by 50 people before me with 150mi on the speedo, regardless of the degree of legendary-ness of the said people. For second hand cars, sure, go ahead. The value of the car is probably already at most half as what it was new, so what’s another 5 mi on the odometer?
