I’m using Opening night, Houdini, redbone, here in south Texas. We’ve got mostly Clearwater conditions, checkered bottom turtle grass and oysters bars.
A Montana fly fishing author named Gary LaFontaine thought a lot about color/fishing. One theory was that if you used colors that matched the ambient light your fly would pick up that color and it would seem to stand out- “pop”. You can see that using pink at first light and twilight when there’s a lot of red light around. Or green when there’s a lot of green vegetation. That’s probably why your advice about matching the bottom works so well.
Slam Shady, Pearl, Electric Chicken, Bloody Mary Sunday, Beer Run, Root Beer, Houdini are my go to’s. Have always passed up Wright Stuff but I might have to try it! Also, definitely going to get some of the Avocado Red Flake and Purple Demon! Thanks for the colors Capt. CA! Rubber up is Creole Croaker. Got into a school of Blues and had a trout trick in Creole Croaker on a Trout Eye Jig Head and a quick twitch twitch pause action was getting destroyed by those blues! That was a lot of fun!
Gold rush, purple demon, houdini, beer run, and the deal are my go to colors on the alabama gulf coast. Honorable mention to yoga pants and white lightnin. Outside of zman, i love an Arkansas shiner zoom fluke
My top 3 colors and how / when I like to use them. Bad Shad - perfect all around all situational color. Looks like a little mullet Wright Stuff - low light / night time color. Dirty water Beer Run - clear water bright sunny days.
I find it interesting that when you’re talking.muddy water you choose dark colors. I fish muddy/dirty water quite a bit and an off whitish color is my go to. I feel as if it stands out better (easier for the fish to see in the murky water) It could be it’s the just a confidence color for me, but I know it works.
Thank you Capt CA. I'm partially color blind so I always have trouble deciding on color presentation. Fishing off a kayak means I need to keep my tackle to a minimum. I'm going to stop by Sodium while I'm staying in Yankeetown and pick these up. Thank you for a helpful video.
Thanks for the great video. I just happened to stroll upon your channel while looking up videos in preparation for my kayak fishing trip from Cleveland to Naples/ Everglades City. I'm sure you would be fun to go fishing with since you seem to be a natural teacher. I'm sure i would learn alot. Going to fwd your channel to the fella I'm doing the trip with and going to watch some more videos!
Thanks for these Zman color selections. I will purchase each of these in the MinnowZ bait. Can you also advise which jig-head or hook selections would be your go to for terminal tackle.
If you want to keep things as simple as possible, I’d recommend 1/4oz TroutEye jigheads for 3” paddletails and 1/4” RedfishEye for 4” paddletails There’s a LOT of other rigging options depending on specific conditions like water depth, how hard the current flows, and whether you need something weedless but if you want a good starting point just keep it simple as possible. Here’s hoping my answer is close to what Capt CA would tell you ;)
I can’t believe white didn’t make it! pearl white for clear water over sand, or fluorescent white in nasty water, but mine would be white, a clear bait with gold/red flash like the lil john red gold glitter or the dirty tequila from DSL, then like a lemon head color yellow chart and white, rootbeer, and opening night
Hello, how are you, I made a list of things I want to do before leaving this world, one of them is fishing, I would like to know if it is possible to make this dream come true, and if you are the one who helps me make it come true, how much would that adventure cost? contact me please.
I am honored to be mentioned in this video! Thank you C.A and I'm glad you are enjoying "The Wright Stuff".
Beer Run, for honorable mention!!👊🏼
Randall I knew I like you 👊🏼

I’d say white is one of those colors that actually does work in just about any condition. It may not always be the best option. But it does work.

CA what is your favorite Zman jighead or hook you like to use with the Diesel Minnow?
Root beer, Captain .
Its a staple in my tackle bag
Great video as always. These five colors are they all in four inches?
I need one of them water resistant notepads to write down some of this advice to have with me on the water
Use your phone lol
Rite in The Rain
I start with white/silver, then green, then purple. I'll have to try some brown and black gold.
Where’s the gold, CA!?!🤙🏽

Actually the pearl blue glimmer is basically translucent white… perfect for clear water
How about the Dark and Stormy?
That bad bone is fine
Looks like saltstrong finally has some competition
😂… you do realize I am the OG Matt.
