Excellent advice. I always thought taking it out of the plastic would dry the bait out. This is great to know.

Good tip for boaters. I fish from the bank. Too many baits. Besides some plastics do not mix well with others. Be careful of that. Thanks

Thanks for valuable information. I started last fall doing this but haven’t finished.

All the lure companies need to start packaging their baits in clams!

If you have a sickle tail worm or a curl tail grub that gets bent or warped you can fix them by laying them on a hard surface and flashing them with a heat gun. All you have to do is expose them to enough indirect heat that it causes them to relax and go back to their original shape.

Good to know I will give this a try

I did that for a few years and now I organize my different plastics in their original bags inside gallon ziplock bags. Easier and takes less room than Plano boxes.

Good advice. In my part of the country my tackle is in storage for several months. Id like to see a video on life preservers and boarding a boat in the event of falling out. At 67 years old i might start wearing a life jacket at all times on my boat. I use a water ski type vest right now and its uncomfortable for anything but motoring.

I wear a lifejacket all the time while in the boat been doing that since I was knee high to a toadstool, use the motor as a ladder to get back in the boat and ladders that go on boats aren't that costly

    Randy,
I understand that you fish long day, multi-day tournaments. My fish two species of fish crappie primary and have been working on bass a little at a time. So how much tackle do I really need to carry? It just seems very overwhelming and it takes up a lot of space in my boat which is not a very large boat. I'm just trying to figure out a way to downsize to smaller boxes and get some of that gear out of there. And I have no lies to tell I am a tackle Junkie even though I had a fishing with just a few techniques for bass and crappie.

Randy I just watched Brian Latimer and TackleJunky videos before this and they are saying to keep your plastics in the original packs as long as possible and that the plastic used in these trays ruins ZMAN baits because of the chemicals used in them (???) What the heck is going on.

The problem about putting in the storage boxes is in most cases you have to put them on their side. How many people lay their boxes flat in the boat. Nobody unless every time you want something you gotta remove 6 boxes to find what your looking for.

  • @fishinninja18

After riding around the lake all day and grabbing a couple out; I'm sure your baits lay really flat. If you know, you fail to find better ways. Good bags will vacuum seal. Look how neat your chunks on the wall are. take the air out of the bag every time you get one out and they will stay that way in the boat.

Thanks Randy, great advice. A couple of questions though: should you add some scent oil to the plastics in the boxes, snd what effect does temperature have on these baits? Im thinking they should not be stored wherever the summer heat could affect them. I don’t know if extreme cold temps affect them either. Thoughts? Thanks!

Elastec is flammable too. I tried melting a worm onto a head because I was out of loc tight and it burned like a candle. No good 😂

From my experience any plastic baits I’ve ever put in those boxes ends up melting

No thanks. Mine are staying bagged with the oils and salt they came in. This might work for a pro that goes through a whole bag at a time and \ or throws away what they didnt use after the tourney.

That's what I was thinking. I want my scented and juiced soft plastics to stay as air tight as possible. I get the part about keeping the tails straight though. Making sure they are straight in the original bag seems like a good compromise

@@mikelembke5121 I don't remember very many water proof tackle trays being around in mid 80s or 1990. What kind were you using back then?

Do NOT store the boxes on their sides. Even if its done for a minute its a mess inside 😅😅
