    Nice test! I will try to print one day when there is free time on the bed. One question. how much time the cura slicer gives you for the ender 3? Mine gives 2 hours and 46 minutes. Its always accurate when I print

    • @Zelrick42
      @Zelrick42  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      With Cura it depends on the version. Earlier versions were quicker. Also it depends on your settings, I printed at .2 layer height 20% infill 4 bottom and top layers, only one slow layer and default speeds. To equal what Prusa Slicer does by default. Cura spit out something like 6 hours. It’s partly due to slicer pathing and partly due to not being able to get to some speed settings that Prusa slicer has.

  • @botbrigade6273
    @botbrigade6273 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you use the Creality slicer and use the layer height of 0.15mm you will get faster speeds than on the Prusa slicer. Also, that's the same layer height that the prusa slicer uses for the prusa mini so it should be the same resolution

  • @monter75

    Hi, thank you for great video. I have Prusa slicer installed but I haven't used it yet. After watching your video, I was tempted to slicing that same lithophan (~ 24 h printing) in cura and prusa slicer. Time of printing was similar but ... prusa 0.12, cura 0.16 but when I set both programs to 0.2 the difference was 6 hours (wow). Now i printing g-code from cura but i will make one more, similar lithophan and i want to try with prusa. Are the dedicated settings for ender 3 pro in prusa slicer OK? Can you share your prusa profile for ender 3 pro? If you can i say thank you. I'm not expert, it's my hobby and i'm still and I'm still learning with great pleasure.

    • @Zelrick42
      @Zelrick42  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Prusa Slicer beta defaults are pretty good and faster than Cura. I can't really share my profile due to using a beta version of Prusa Slicer and having it set up to take advantage of the dual gear extruder and a few other things I have set in the firmware. A stock Ender 3 probably wouldn't work well with it.

    LOL I was gonna comment even before you mentiond not running to the comments, but then thought better of it - and now as I'm writing this comment while continuing this video I see that we've come to the same conclusion:
    It is super interesting that the mini was quicker than the mk3s, but became easier to explain once I got over the pricing of either. My main expectation is better acceleration values due to the weight
    Maybe an interesting test would be to compare big cube (so long straight lines) vs something with a lot of directional switches. Either something using Hilbert curve extensively, or something like the Top Part of the knurled twist container, which on my mk3s took double the amount of time the bottom part took, while weighing only ~2/3 as much
    Regarding the slicer thing - I've only ever used gcode from prusa slicer but I've palyed around with both cura and ps extensively and I'm having a hard time finding reasons to recommend Cura unless there is no PS profile for your printer. Even the UI infuriates me

    • @Zelrick42
      @Zelrick42  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      BelviGER i am doing more testing. Thank you for the suggestions, I’m also finding that the board on the MK3 can be a limiting factor on complex files. Cura VS Prusa Slicer is something I don’t get into, I use them both they each do things the other doesn’t.

    I want to get into 3dp as a hobby and currently plan to buy a Prusa Mini in about 2-3 months. Now, with me being a student and due to some limitations of my apartment, the Mini is likely going to sit fairly close to my washing machine. Is this a problem? If so, what's the best (cheap) way to dampen the vibrations in order to omit these problems?

    • @Zelrick42
      @Zelrick42  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't know if it will be a problem, but I would guess that unless you are placing the Mini right on top of the washer you'll be fine. I Print with two other printers on the same rolling cabinet and haven't seen any issues from vibration. If you do, someone will have designed some vibe dampening feet to try.

      If you want some peace of mind, check out how Prusa has isntalled their print farm.
      All their printers are aligned on continuous shelves, there is no massive bracing for the shelving units, and they run 90+ Printers simultaniously per shelving unit.
      A washing machine that is not connected to the printer (except via the floor which barely counts) shouldn't be able to inflict more issues than the potential of 89 printers being in sync on the y axis and whacking that one printer that isn't in sync
      I'd wager that as long as you don't place the printer directly on the washing machine while its in fast spinning mode you won't notice a thing. Especially after you put a rubber dampening matt under the printer to reduce resonances

    • @Zelrick42

      The results are a toss up. The Mini occasionally edges out the MK3, but the MK3 will do a slight bit better with complicated prints. I would not choose between them on print quality or speed. Build volume is the only real difference to choose on.

      Except for Frank (the Raptor) they are all at stock settings. I did a lot of experimenting with acceleration for the Ender and while I could speed the thing up, raising it caused dimensional problems with the prints. My goal with this ender is to get it print at speeds close to the MK3s while maintaining an accuracy of .2mm or less on all axises. The ender currently has many new upgrades and I'm working on a video exploring the volumetric speed settings in Prusa Slicer.

      I totally agree, the premise here was to show basic performance for the person that just got the printers set up and downloaded the community prefered slicer. The ender has a very good movement system, it's held back by the stock electronics and extruder. I'm going to continue to see what I can accomplish speed wise, because I believe it should print as fast and as good as the Prusas with the right parts. The question is how much will it cost and will it be viable when compared to the mini?
