    Thank you for making this video. When I installed my new faucet a year or 2 ago the installation instructions said to use silicon caulk to seal the drain flange to the sink opening/drain hole. It was messy but worked. Fast forward to yesterday when the sink wouldn't drain. I undid all pea trap connections and cleaned out the clog, but in doing so the silicon unseated around the drain flange. Thanks for clearly showing how to apply the plumber's putty. It was easy and forms a better seal, I think. Also, the suggestion to seal the threads with teflon tape is a good one which I don't think the original installation instructions indicated. Suggestion: Another video recommended also using teflon tape on all pea trap connections as extra insurance against leaks, a step which you didn't do. Still, your video is very helpful. Thanks again.

      Need help! I have an inch and a half waist pipe Cummins the wall under my bathroom vanity there is a recoupling on the pipe attached to my p-trap. The connection from the wall is approximately an inch and a quarter short from the tailpiece. I am unable to unscrew the coupling from the waist pipe. Can I use a fernco fitting to make an easier connection. Or could I cut the coupling off and start from the pipe. I'm concerned about cutting the coupling I do not want to damage the threads on the pipe and I don't have any room up against the wall. A fernco I think will be the simplest solution. Thanks for your help

  • @jimmcwilliams484

    I followed the recommended order and it worked out fine. The screw connection for the P-Trap nut is always tricky to get it started and threaded correctly but otherwise it was a no hitch install. Very nice video and clear, concise instructions.

For me personally, I really appreciate knowing WHY 🤷‍♀️ I need a slight angle to the one pipe for drainage, not just "...well, because... you just DO!" 🤦‍♀️ 😒😠😡 Not that it has anything to do with the leak, I just wanted to thank you for just the right amount of info.
    I've discovered my problem creating the leak and I'm off to get the missing (!) piece. Thanks so much!

    Dang, my roommate just bought a new vanity. The old one was too low and was made for custom vanities in 1985 so we needed to raise the whole drain pipe. We went to home depot and asked how to raise the sani tee. The guy told us not to. He said we didn't need to. We just needed the drain pipe off the pee trap to be the highest point. So we used a 45 degree and a 1 1/2 adapter to raise the pipe in the wall before it attaches to drain pipe that attaches to the ptrap. I'm sure its confusing to read and I cant attach a pic. The point the drop is spread out over roughly 2-3 feet. The ptrap attaches to a straight drain pipe and then turns and then drops but it's certainly more than the pipe width. CRAP!!!!! Hopefully it vents ok. This was super helpful.

    In the video you describe 1/4 inch slope and state that 1/4 inch slope per foot is the maximum slope per code. On your final adjustment, you used a level on the trap arm and adjusted it using the trap adapter on the tailpiece. In that step, did you attempt to dead level the trap arm and are you saying even if it’s not perfect level it’s cool as long as the slope doesn’t exceed 1/4 inch per foot as you pointed out can be determined by staying within the outer line on the bubble?
    Is level preferred, without any slope, to maintain the best trap seal?

    Excellent video - just what I am working on. Actually installing a new faucet but thought that I may as well install the included sink drain. Unfortunately the pee trap is glued and has no adjustment so I can't get the new sink drain in. So it's the old drain or a new pee trap I guess.

    Great video thanks. Does the minimum trap arm distance need to be straight or can it include a curve like from a long sweep or hard 90? Because my p-trap doesn't line up with my drain I'll need a 90 or 45 to make the connections (and it's a fairly short distance between the basket strainer and the floor drain pipe.

    This video is the best I’ve been able to find! My only question is, if I’m starting from the metal drain pipe coming from the wall, what piece would I need to be able to attach any of this? Thanks in advance!

    • @PROSDIY
      @PROSDIY  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's 2 options that I use. First is a trap adaptor sized to the size of the metal rough-in piping from the wall: www.homedepot.com/p/NIBCO-1-1-2-in-x-1-1-4-in-ABS-DWV-Hub-x-Slip-Joint-Trap-Adapter-C58017HD112114/100348302
      Second is using a flexible coupling which is probably the easier way: www.homedepot.com/p/Fernco-1-1-2-in-x-1-1-4-in-DWV-Flexible-PVC-Coupling-P1056-150-125/100044154
