    It's pronounced willis...as in "whachu talkin' about Willis?" It is named for John North Willys. He bought Overland Automotive in 1908 which became the second-largest producer of autos in the US behind Ford Motor Company. Overland was the creator of the Willys MB that became known as Jeep, in 1941. Liked this video! I just bought my Willys yesterday (6/21/2023). Love it!

    I love the Willys trim. Rear LSD and the best wheels in the lineup.
    The max tow package on the Sport models is also a great option for those who don’t need lockers but want to go 35s without re-gearing. Factory 4.10 gearing and rear LSD. I’ll add a front locker to mine in the future and leave the rear LSD.

    The Willys trim is a great package, what would make it a whole lot better is just a rear locker. I mean most "off road" packaged trucks now come with that option.

      @Grodd70 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@johnfrank4558 I am unaware of the Willys having an auto lock rear differential...I know Chevy offered one where it would "lock up" on its own after a certain amount of wheel spin. To my knowledge Willys can be had with Trac lock which is essentially posi traction (good) but a far cry from a full on locker

    Funny you say the 3.6L is a slouch. It’s quite fast in the Gladiator with the 8 speed. The big V8 trucks are the slow ones in most cases, especially on the trails and winded roads.

    The two major pronunciations are "Willies" which is what it looks like; therefore most pronounce it that way, or "Willis," which was how John N. Willys pronounced his name and the name of his company. Willys Overland. Not sure where you get "Wheelies" from.

    There is nothing to argue about. 'Willis' is the correct pronuciation. It's based on the traditional family pronunication of the John North Willys surname. I have actually done research on this since I own a 21 Gladiator Willys (White like this one). My 21 came with BFG BSW MT's instead of the Firestone WSWs. I 'paid' ($39K) for mine in Dec 2020. I would not pay over $50K for one...

    I've been playing with a Willy's build on may phone and last Saturday prices went up I also built a comparable Mojave with black grill etc and the difference was only 3360 so not sure the value is there any more and I like the Willy's build we have a jlu version

    • @motorhead_jt21
      @motorhead_jt21 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you’re thinking of the Mojave vs Willys, then go Mojave. Every owner on the Gladiator forum absolutely loves them. Definitely drive both though, they’re different beasts and you may like one more than the other.

    • @stanleyfurash7929
      @stanleyfurash7929 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've driven both and thought the Mojave drove really nice, liked the Willy's as well.
      Unfortunately with the most recent price increase I think the value proposition with the Willy's went away.
      I built both to be identical if you will only differences are rear lockers, the shocks, 33 inch tires and the beefed up components on the Mojave, that's a lot for around $3,400.00 especially if you want to leave it stock or near stock.

    • @motorhead_jt21

      I’m a Mojave owner, 5 months and have driven the Willy’s..I would definitely save the additional 3,500 so your able to purchase the Mojave. I’ve owned Jeep’s for 20 years, nothin drive like the Mojave

    • @stanleyfurash7929
      @stanleyfurash7929 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The money is not the issue either way the build I put together was over 60k, the spread used to be greater which made the decision somewhat easier.
      As I said we have a 2021 JLU Willy's, I love the package although I wish you could get the Gladiator Willy's with max tow.
      The plusses on the Willy's for me are the wheels, black lettering and black front bumper.
      I don't care about the fake hood scoop on the Mojave and don't like the grey letters and insets in the front bumper but that's just me.

      @@paulelliott682 I got my Gladiator (2021) off a dealer's lot -- "Plan B" when I couldn't get my 2021 Chevy Colorado ZR2 (in Sand Dune Metallic!) due to GM's chip-shortage back in April 2021 -- one Gladiator was black, the other Hydro Blue Pearlcoat. I chose the blue one.
      Unlike Chevy dealers back then, Jeep dealers had PLENTY of Wranglers & Gladiators on their lots...but only two were optioned close to what I would have gotten had I ordered them from the factory. Plus, the price was pretty good (couldn't get that price TODAY given the insane auto-market, stealership ADMs, etc.).
      Please note that I was restricted to the MID-size truck segment only, so a full-size truck wouldn't do! So no, no TRX for me...or Raptor, Power Wagon, etc...MAINLY because a full-size truck wouldn't fit into my garage! :-(
