      Maybe this mistake is pertaining to how sneaky the other neighbors are or can take advantage of Wally, doing whatever to the guy just because he doesn't seem to mind or show any concern.
      For all we know, Wally might get pissed off when the other neighbors take or "borrow" his stuff, but because he just wants to be friends with everyone, he thinks he'll lose friends by expressing how he truly feels when uncomfortable things like this happen. Instead of confronting these neighbors, he just orders more paint.
      Wally is definitely a character that gets taken advantage of.

    I wanted to make a comment about Wally's voice since Baz brought it up so much during this video, and as someone on the autism spectrum and having family and friends who are on the spectrum too, I wanted to point out, and inform people, that Wally (as well as Julie and Frank) is canonically on the spectrum. Autism is an spectrum because of how wildly different it can manifest from person to person, hence the three different characters and their own portrayals of autism.
    Clown said that while he was starting the project and couldn't afford voice actors, he voiced the character themself. "Beautiful Dreamer" was performed by them for example, and he mentioned on a recent post on his Tumblr (June 17th this year) that Wally's monotone is similar to Clown's own way of speaking, as well as their laugh.
    This is what he said regarding a comment asking for the characters' voices:
    "So this is Very Funny but I will tell you! Prior to the attention, I provided the Voices for the Characters! (I could not Afford Voice Actors, but I also was still Exploring it's potential mode of Storytelling!) I am very Monotone, I give a lot of myself to Wally in this way! His laugh, Too, a very silly laugh!"
    I'm not saying that Wally can't be possessed or anything, but considering this, I think the way he speaks and how it might relate to anything seems kind of a strech.

    • @DAVEARCSPRITE
      @DAVEARCSPRITE ปีที่แล้ว +108

      its upsetting to see people dismiss his voice as "creepy" or "off-putting" because of this :(

    • @NeoNovastar
      @NeoNovastar ปีที่แล้ว +77

      This kept running through my mind while this was going on. Wally may be part of the spooky neighborhood, but he not a villain because he's monotone or a little different. He just seems like someone on the spectrum, and kinda warm and sweet.

    • @eloise2319
      @eloise2319 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      @@DAVEARCSPRITE Yah, I had the same feeling.
      I definitely know that sometimes when I'm in social environments I tend to sound very monotone or uninterested, specially if I'm uncomfortable, so that part of his character hits close to home (pun not intended).
      So hearing people say he either sounds lobotomized or possessed or like a pervert just really hurts personally in my own insecurities of what other people may think of me because of the way I am.
      That's why I wanted to comment about that. Sometimes people that are on the spectrum can immediately recognize these kinds of traits but it might be difficult for people who aren't neurodivergent.
      And Wally (and Clown's work in general) has been a great source of representation. I can relate to taking things a bit too literally, speaking in weird ways or seeming to be low energy all the time, or expressing myself through other arts better rather than speaking (for Wally it's painting and for me it's writing), as well as disassociating for long stretches of time (although this might not be related to his autism and more towards other aspects of his character but still).
      And then you've got Frank and Julie who are also good representations.
      Frank with their love of gardening and of bugs (also a special interest/hyper-fixation of mine, I love little critters 🐞) and keeping things a certain way, and getting annoyed whenever his things are out of place.
      And then you've got Julie who is very energetic and lively, with her main interests being playing games like playing pretend or even physical games (things like hopscotch, jump rope, roller skates, pogo sticks, etc). She also struggles with social interactions when they aren't going a certain way, like when she was trying to make a joke but Barnaby didn't find it funny or when she and Sally were discussing Julie's performance and improv.
      Overall, they are great characters that portray a group of people that often get misrepresented, sometimes just ambiguously alluded to rather than being explicitly told about their position on the spectrum, or, in the worst of cases, straight up horribly depicted in the most annoying ways possible (sometimes even in the most ableist ways as well).
      Sorry for the long rant. I felt very passionate about this topic, and I don't have anyone else to vent this on, so thank you for providing that space :)

    • @eloise2319
      @eloise2319 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      @@NeoNovastar He always seemed charismatic to me.
      You don't always see a character who is canonically on the spectrum be the main lead.
      And all his bits with the rest of his neighbors seemed charming rather than creepy. The only creepy ones are the secret audios (and that's understandable considering he seems to be growing desperate and losing his grip on his sanity).
      And considering how many people find him either adorable, charming or even attractive, I'd say that he definitely got that 'tism rizz lol.
      Maybe it's because people know there are horror elements to this project that they start to think everything different than what they are used to instantly equals creepy, but I guess it's also kind of what happens when you try to look deep into things that might not be clues exactly, just simple character traits.

    • @sadiesnail
      @sadiesnail ปีที่แล้ว +53

      I think Nightmind said it best. If that was just the way he talked the reception to it would probably be different. But given the LARGE amount of clues we have had that something is wrong with Wally, of course people are gonna find it weird and think something is wrong with him. Even the other characters have moments of awkwardsness and weird reactions to stuff Wally says and does, and most close friends of someone with autism wouldn't still have that reaction over their speech patterns that far into the friendship, ya know? I'm not saying that him being monotone isn't normal, but there is definately something going on in the way he is speaking and acting to even worry the other neighbors.
      The "robotic monotone" type voice is also trope for possessed characters in media, so I don't think it says anything bad about the people who find it creepy, its just another unfortunate stereotype that is extremely common. (Not saying anyone in this thread is acting like Baz is a bad person, but I've seen some pretty rude comments about it in the rest of the comment sections).
      tldr: It's cool that it is bringing awareness to this sometimes being a trait of autism, but I don't think people are bad for finding it creepy when paired with everything that has been hinted at with Wally so far. Especially since there is no mention of Autism on the site itself, which most people (and CCs) choose to only follow to avoid spoilers, and this speech pattern being common for possessed characters in modern media.

    The thing with the phone, Wally said something about the strange call his neighbors got. So I'm sure the whole thing is the phone is connected to the world of Welcome Home. Basically, we called the neighborhood through this ‘toy’ phone and I don't understand the don't answer thing yet. However, since Wally has this strange fourth-wall-breaking powers it leads to him actually knowing we're there and had called the others.

    I definitely think the answer to Wally's voice is both "possessed" and "on the spectrum" I have encountered a lot of neurodivergent people who talk similarly to him, who take long pauses between words and sentences, are very monotone and/or repeat a sentence they think sounds catchy (the line "it's the most", still have no clue what it could mean). On the other hand, it is very noticeable how everyone else doesn't talk like that, which could tie back to the character profiles, all of them being in past tense as opposed to Wally, who is always written in present tense. This implying all of them are either dead or are in a similar situation with The Collector's reign of terror in Owl House, where they all have conscious thought, just trapped in the neighborhood.
    One clip that I think needs to be analyzed is when Wally shows up during Frank and Julie are talking about his bowties. He shows up just to ask them if Home can play with them. That's it. Nothing else. After they answer his question, he just kinda lingers there and does nothing until Julie talks to him again. That could lead to both sides. Wally not realizing the conversation ended, which, from what I heard, does happen to neurodivergent people, or to the possessed side where either 1. Wally is desperately contemplating about what's going on, since this is concrete proof Wally speaks for Home most of the time, since remember, it only speaks in random inaudible noises, or 2. having a moment of peace away from Home at Frank's house. That's how I look at it tbh.

    • @LikaLaruku
      @LikaLaruku ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The answer is much more simple & boring. He's just trying to sound like the host from Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood.
      The man had a show for very young children who could barely speak, so he used a very slow & condecending speach pattern with them.

    • @sugarskulls2817
      @sugarskulls2817 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LikaLaruku Yeah. I think this is most likely. Here's my reasoning. I am a female with a high pitched voice and no matter what I do in terms of voice acting, without some kind of software, I am never going to be able to voice a character that sounds more suave or cool it's always gonna sound stupid and cutesy because of my vocal pitch.
      Whats my point? I think that's whats happening with Clown and Wally. I think while Wally is meant to be similar to the comforting tone of Mr. Roger's (with a tinge of creepy because, obviously, Wally is being hinted at to be creepy in some way), Clown themselves has a more monotonous voice and them trying to mimic Mr. Rogers is overdoing it on the creepy.
      Ergo I don't think Clown's voice is creepy but them trying to do a Mr. Rogers impression is. Their own response to the comments about Wally's voice makes me lean more towards this too

    So the weird sounding audio actually does occur when a tape/reel was played too many times. The area on the ribbon was played so much that it’s weaker/worn out that it comes out sounding weirder when it’s played. And yes, the audio will come out sounding “demonic” (It was often the “evidence” used to say that certain musicians and music was the Devil’s music. Little bit of trivia for you)
    However, that doesn’t account for how slow Wally is speaking and I think you’re right. That’s because someone or something is speaking through him.
    Note: I saw someone mention that it’s been confirmed that Wally has autism. That doesn’t necessarily correlate with his slow and careful speech. However, possession could be the reason. Although, there are movies and television shows that show there isn’t much difference at times between the host and the being when they speak. I believe that’s a more recent example as some years ago, it was more common for the host to speak slowly as the being cannot control a person’s mouth, vocal cords, tonal shift the same as the host.
    Something else that occurred to me is that slow and deliberate speech can be… because that person is being watched by someone they fear. It’s a reaction when their words are used against them or when someone makes them feel that what the words they use aren’t the ones they are actually saying. (Careful, slow, and deliberate speech is so that their words aren’t misconstrued) Not always but sometimes.
    Edit: 25:23 - AHA! Wally’s speech is more normal here. It’s not as slow as in the other audio clips and sounds much more the same as in the previous ones released in the beginning of Welcome Home.
    That is more evidence as to what Baz was pointing out that there was something wrong with Wally in the other audio clips.

      At 20:28 "I wanted to learn the colors" "Wally, I think you already know the colors" "I could hear them again".
      This could also support the theory that Wally is not Wally but maybe Home that couldn't speak nor learn before invading the host. It could be a "funny way" to teach kids, but the audio at 21:58 sounds too much like something learning how to talk AND is clearly talking about Wally! Wally is the most. And if Wally is talking about "the most" like as somebody outside of himself there is clearly something wrong about it. Could he really be dead by now?

      I mean, it's not like Wally couldn't be possessed or anything, but I'd like to point out that Clown, on his Tumblr on 17th June this year posted about when he was voicing Wally, and that his monotone is because Clown themself speaks this way, as well as laughs like that (it's probably more exaggerated because it's a character but still).
      This is Clown's direct quote:
      "So this is Very Funny but I will tell you! Prior to the attention, I provided the Voices for the Characters! I kinda disagree about Wally in the interview. I think he sound well, darling. His is very monotone but, he plays along with the host and gives a few witty remarks. The gaps in his performance feel kinda like Wally's autistic. He just doesn't get some things, but and sometimes gives flat answers cause he doesn't get it. I have had similar conversations when I was younger, where I would try to move along and not show my confusion.
    Alternatively, even without being Autistic the gaps in his knowledge make sense for the host of kids show. He doesn't pick up innuendo but does flirt back. He doesn't get the concept of romance. Plus, as a children show host he may be calm and not very expressive on purpose. It plays well of the other more expressive characters and their personalities. We see in the new audio that (unsurprisingly) the characters don't always get along perfectly. Frank seems to be annoyed but toleratant of Barnabies jokes, and Sally Starlet is confused when Julie Joyful goes completely off script(of Sally's play). They all get along in the end though.
    Wally ironically is the perfect character to focus on because he gets along with the entire neighborhood pretty well. In many of the audios it looks like he plays tiebreaker between his neighbors, or just is along for the ride until someone says his name or asks for his opinion. I enjoy being in the company of friends even when they aren't speaking to me directly. Their presence is enough, or the knowledge that they cared to invite me, even if I don't contribute to the conversation.
    Personal preference maybe, but if welcome home was an actual show fom the 60-70s I would probably be the person who watches reruns on tv with my dad or (dad's side) grandmother since they enjoy reruns of old shows.

    THEORY: Baz joked about Wally sounding like a lobotomized pervert, which actually kinda makes sense (minus the pervert part.)
    (Watch the video first if you haven't!)
    He mentioned something being "fuzzy, like me" maybe meaning he has fuzzy memories? Also his speech pattern being very simple, pointing out obvious things, repeating questions, and his overarticulated laugh.
    In the letter playset, where apparently, he had asked Howdy to remind him of a restock for something, despite the fact he buys whatever it is so often. Aswell as Frank's letter asking if he remembers what an insect is. I wonder if Home is affecting his memory or he's been posessed by someone or something else entirely.

    • @Alexandraadftxr7052

      And the lobotomzed part makes sense. Welcome Home has queer themes. Wally was a slange used for gay men. And how doas lobotomy plays into this. Well lomotomy was promory performed on women (60% of people who it happand to were women), children, mentally ill, and gay men (it's not as mach as women, nut still a large number enought for it to be called homophobic).

      I might be thinking too much into it, but upon listening to the dialogues in this video again, I'm starting to think Wally sounds like a victim of some.....scandalous things let's just say.
      When the host is talking to him in the beginning, he immediately starts prying into what his possible love life is, specifically if he's in any romantic relationship. Wally's response? He doesnt say yes or no, he says "Oh...I don't know...I love....everyone", some people might think that means Wally's sexuality is open or he doesn't want a serious relationship, but it could mean he's an easy victim of other people that take advantage of him in a sexual manner......further clues are he doesn't seem to consent to anything, demonstrated in the part where Eddie and Sally lift him without even asking. Wally has no control and can easily be taken advantage of. I think this whole "lifting" segment was to specifically prove how vulnerable Wally is as a character.
      So the whole "demonic presense" thing that people keep saying has control of Wally, there may be a dark truth behind it

      I definitely believe that Wally’s memories are being tampered with or lost within his mind. Baz didn’t get to this, but in the guestbook if you look at the title of the images, Wally actively responds to the guests messages. One of them was asking “what is your favorite memory of your neighbors” to which Wally responds with the png file “I don’t remember”. I think the images really tell about the psyche and knowledge that Wally has and it may accidentally be overlooked.

      Wally is also canonically on the spectrum (As well as Frank and Julie, confirmed by Clown themselves) so his voice could be due to that, but i don't think that would affect his memories. For him saying "fuzzy like me" however, that could be that there is something causing that, that we don't know for sure quite yet.

      I worked with two people who were involved in car crashes who attended a disabled facility, and both kind of have the same speech patterns as Wally, where it sounds like they're kind of there, but sometimes they're not.

    I missed the Wally autism thing, will add my personal perspective of 'why does Wally sound funky when he is meant to be the star?' as an autistic person that didn't clock that: there was a horror art piece on the site (tw assault I guess?) where he had bloodshot eyes and a hand emerging from his mouth that, to me, brought to mind impalement. My catastrophizing taking-shit-literally ass figured "oh yeah wally is probably traumatized as shit and just stumbling through the interview with some weird dude asking relationship questions the best he can" 5:12 that hand thing is likely a metaphor or just general horror concept art as opposed to 'this straight-up happened', I just took it at face value.
    Beagle guy shows up which I read as an attempt by the producers to salvage the interview.
    There's another clip where a door is heard opening and Wally is like "uh oh, time to go :)". I don't know if Wally or any of the characters *want* to be on the show necessarily. He could well be forced into a main character role he didn't want any part of, who knows what behind-the-scenes looked like when he 'failed'?

      I always thought it was strange that the host would ask Wally if he's in any romances, not because he's a puppet, but because its kind of an intrusive question to ask someone who's perceived as pure. I mean sure, this is something you could ask someone who's a celebrity, but the way the host reiterates to Wally if he has a "love life" is a bit off putting.
      Notice how the host asks if he's in "any sort of romances lately" instead of phrasing it more appropriately and respectful like "Are you with someone special at the moment"?
      I personally think this isn't as innocent as a question as we're led to believe.
      The host isn't asking Wally if he's in a relationship.
      The host is asking if Wally has sex.
      And oddly enough, if he had sex with different partners.
      And that's very uncomfortable. Since this is SUPPOSED to be a kids show.
      Just my observation.

When the neighbours spoke out his name and lags out, it would mean that Wally is back to where he was cause, we're him and his mind just seems to zone out. Also, Idk if it's confirmed but it's really up to people that can decide what sexuality Wally is.

    I have two theories. 1: We're seeing the world through Wally's eyes AND perspective as in we're not just seeing what he sees but how he interprets the situation as it's happening. Wally is queer and, like Julie and Frank, autistic. In a neighborhood of "alien" creatures, he feels the most alien. The discomfort people seem to feel around him might just be how Wally thinks they feel about/around them. I think the reason why Frank and Julie seemed nervous is because Wally is higher on the spectrum and/or misses social cues quite often so they've learned to ask him questions to clarify his thoughts/intentions like Frank asking "Is that it, Wally?" 2: Wally is the only one who knows they're all puppets and doesn't have the heart to truly care anymore nor to tell the others the truth so he just keeps going through the motions.

    I didn't know Nightmind was helping out with this series! But he did great as the TV. Show host, though his dialogue was a little weird for interviewing a children's show character.
    I don't know who voiced Barnaby, and everybody else, but they did wonderful!!

    Yay, Clown is back, Welcome Home is continuing, I love Welcome Home, It's soooooo cool, I kinda relate to Wally, I believe Home is "Pulling the Strings" and that Home is Manipulating and Controlling Wally, and I kinda relate to that, as I feel trapped... Sooooo yeah... I love Wally, and he's soooooooo Relatable~
    4:05
    Wally: There you are, Welcome Home, hahaha!
    Me: Wally! Hiiiiiiiii~^^
    6:07
    Wally: They call me Wally Darling, because, that's my name~ :)
    21:06
    Barnaby: Hey... Don't take this the wrong way, from a Dog that doesn't wear pants, buuuut...
    What's missing?
    Frank: My Bow-tie...
    Barnaby: *BIG GASP* Wally don't look, *HE'S INDECENT!*
    Me: Oh noooo, Frank is still looking for his Bow-tie... He's Indecent!

    In a some of those. Wally is visiting. But some he's lurking. They don't know he's there.
    He's creepy.
    They also sound nervous when they see him.
    And he isn't remotely charismatic. He's a blank slate who really doesn't know stuff. Not just a Audience Surrogate like Dora The Explorer.
    Wally and Home are out of place in the show.
    Everyone else is as advertised. Charismatic. Full personalities.
    Wally is this creepy emotionless lurker.
    I think he's the avatar of the eldritch being that is House.
    They were brought in to promote the show. Control people.
    They made the character of Wally. And he is likable and charismatic. And House maybe.
    But the being known as Wally is a eldritch being from afar who knows nothing of the world. He's completely alien. As is House.

    Wally doesnt sound nesicarily "evil" to me persay, just... off. He sounds disacociated, like hes not really there. The way he talks it seems he has no clue about things perhaps he should know... it sounds like hes learning theese things for the first time (ex: going to get food with barnaby, being refered to as a regular, yet being confused as to what they usualy get) like hes gained sentience and somehow doesnt know these things or something, if that makes sense? Ive also noticed Wally doesnt speak alot unless asking quesions, which is a little odd considering isnt he the "main charachter?" (Still trying to refresh my memory, its bee a while since i interacted with Welcome Home lol)
