Hack job is a hack job. And it’s sad that people actually thick this is a good paint job. I bet it looks like crap in 6 months. If it’s worth doing it’s worth doing right. I charge a minimum of 10k for a complete and I turn down more than I accept. Sad how many hacks are in this industry.

Single stage is a great option on not-so-great cars. To drive or to flip. I like the fact that 400 grit is fine for prep. Instead of 3 coats of base and 2 or 3 coats of clear I normally do, maybe 2 1/2 coats if you do a tack coat to introduce the paint to the surface like the old timers did. The old work truck looks good, just as good as it needs to and prolly better than it has in a lotta years

Love single stage, easy to repair, easy to spray less labor, sometimes it even shines better IMO. With base coat clear coat the gloss can die back into the base leaving you with a less glossy finish. Not single stage. Color and gloss is in the same coat so no risk of die back most cases

Yea I do like base clear for certain applications. But older cars or ones that I sand heavy On, I typically like single stage. Even the pros at the shop will miss a 180 grit scratch here and there and that's no issue with single stage, fills right in. Base clear ? Not so much unless using a 45% solids clear. We sell smr42 which does fill good and level great but still...

Sealer spray time (labor) + cost of sealer + time to let it flash (loss of labor productivity) + overall dry time = $$. So eliminating that for a production painter can get another car in the booth possibly. Marco admits to cutting corners here to save money with acceptable results on an easy solid color paint job. Heck it probably won't get washed once a month if it is a work truck and then that would be if he is lucky so they won't notice the difference.
