  • I made these diy wooden curtain rods and metal brackets to go in my living room for $10 per window. They are over-sized at 84" and 114" long. I have two really wide spaces that are hard to find curtain rods long enough for. The curtain rods I found at Bed Bath & Beyond would've cost me $380 to do both windows. I used those as inspiration and came up with a game plan to make my own. I'll leave the supply list beneath the timestamps. You can view the full tutorial here: www.theniftynester.com/diy-cu...

    gold curtain rings with clips: amzn.to/2B7Q97U *AF
    curtain rod supply list:
    1) 72" long 3/4" wide dowel rods - I used two for each window, use as many as you need for your width
    2) wood glue
    3) dowel screws - I used 3/16"
    4) drill
    5) drill bit - I used 1/4"
    6) ruler or some type of straight edge to mark your center point on the dowel
    7) some type of saw to cut your dowels down to equal lengths - I used a band saw
    8) sand paper to smooth edges where dowel was cut down if needed
    9) wood stain
    10) pre-stain conditioner (optional) helps even out the stain
    11) polyurethane or polycrylic (optional) helps protect your finished curtain rod
    12) paint brushes or a rag to apply stain
    13) paper towels to wipe stain off
    bracket supply list:
    1) 1 1/2" corner braces
    2) 1/2" one hole straps (these will be where the conduit is at the hardware store)
    3) screws- just long enough to join the brace and one hole straps so you don't have a long screw hanging down
    4) lock nut washer - I prefer these to create more friction and less likely to loosen over time
    5) screw driver - I used a phillips head to fit my screws as well as a rachet screwdriver with a socket that fit my lock nut washers. this allowed me to get a tighter fit than I could've with just a basic screwdriver
    7) spray paint (optional)
    bracket mounting supply list:
    1) drill
    2) drywall anchors and the screws that come with them
    3) foam board - I used this to mark the exact distance down from the ceiling where I wanted my brackets to be
    4) ruler - used to mark the foam board and as a straight edge to cut the board down to the width needed
    5) exacto knife to cut the foam board (not shown in video)

    What does "hanging in opposite directions" mean? Great video. New here!

    • @TheNiftyNester
      @TheNiftyNester  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, Barb! So when I hung the curtains I took the curtain rings and would rotate one to the left, then the next one to the right and so forth. That way each ring was turned in the opposite direction of the one next to it to create a wave in the curtains. I hope that makes more sense, sorry if that's not explained well.

    What size sheets did you order?

      @TheNiftyNester  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I ordered twin sized sheets. I will add that to the description, I must have forgotten that little tidbit!

      @@TheNiftyNester Thank you. I was so excited and about to order to have them delivered and they are only in store. OMGGGGG so upset. I wonder if there is another site i can find some on for a reasonable price.

      @@apriles5907 you're welcome! What store were you looking at? I'll send you the link for the ones I bought.

      @TheNiftyNester  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@apriles5907 I just realized I linked them in the description but they don't have the twin size listed anymore... that stinks! I've never bought them from Walmart before but I did see they sold individual flat twin sheets for about $5 each, it was in the store but maybe they have them online as well? There's others on Amazon also but they aren't as well priced as the ones I used... well it looks like I'll be on the hunt for another option as well! I still have other windows to do.

    • @apriles5907
      @apriles5907 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Nifty Nester yes I looked at Walmart first which of coarse has the best pricing! The link you linked I wonder if they have full size?
